RUN! Very rude and lacks respect for the students around her. Actively requested help and was told there 'really wasn't a point' and 'I was going to fail the course anyway.'. I was then asked if I 'have ever been tested for a learning disability' since I informed her I have never been the best at school. Made this class & semester awful.
Such a kind professor and is accessible outside of class. She truly wants her students to succeed. However, the readings and lectures were long, and she is a tough grader and does take a while to grade papers. Her quizzes were helpful for the final exam (which is cumulative) but were challenging.
Tally is extremely caring about her students and well educated on the topic matter. Participation in class discussions is important, but she makes the classroom atmosphere amazing. Typically assigned 2 readings before class. Papers took a long time to be graded, but she made the 2nd response paper optional to make up for it. Highly recommend!
T.M. does not understand the topics she teaches; as a result she can't articulate complex ideas, and gets defensive when students challenge assumptions in the course material (really? this is graduate school?). She hides lack of teaching skill behind the idea that the material is hard (it actually isn't, her "teaching" makes it worse).
This class suffered by not having enough class time. I agree with the stuff said on here, but I didn't have many issues understanding content, it was hard since a good chunk of the material didn't get covered in class. It wasn't even misuse of class time, just the course needed more instructional time. Shame, since Tally is a really kind human.
just no.
Reads directly off the slides for two hours and does not do anything else. Previous reviews are accurate.
Tally is the WORST professor I've ever taken. She talks in circles & never gets to the point. Never gives direct answers too. Seems to expect students to have an insane amount of knowledge about research. Avoid taking her at all costs. Bless the TA.
Tally is kind, caring, and has a good sense of humor. My only criticism is that she took a while to grade our first paper, but she made up for it by extending the deadline for our second paper and getting rid of the third paper entirely. 2 papers, 8 quizzes, and 1 final exam. Quizzes were pretty easy if you studied. She wants students to succeed.
Horrible class. The slides were 80+ pages long for lectures and we never got through all of them. Took more than 8 weeks to grade our first assignment. i would really recommend never taking a class by this professor
Tally is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures are long and confusing. Homework is tedious and busy work. The only reason I did so well in the class was due to the TA, who was treated horribly by Tall- IN CLASS! The midterm was horrible, and the final LITERALLY MADE PEOPLE CRY ON ZOOM. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Tally is a horrible professor. Only reason I passed was because of my TA. Talks in circles, thus, never gets to the point. Never gives direct answers too. Seems to expect students to have an insane amount of knowledge about research, when for many, is their first class about research. Avoid taking her for social work 650
Tally is a VERY tough grader. She is not clear at all about her grading expectations and her rubrics are confusing. Even when you go to get clarification, she's still confusing/contradictive once you get your grade back. Her classes are PhD level even though the ones I've taken are Master's level. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES.
Tally is a great person. However, I do believe she really needs to improve her teaching skills as her class was actually painful to complete. Do not buy the textbook, you will not open it once. Weekly homework assignments take roughly 3 hours to complete, and midterm/final took the class around 4 hours to complete. Rambles on in lecture.
Tally is a great person, but she can be a bit passive aggressive in lectures. She is humorous and spunky, but straight forward. Her lectures are confusing and she tends to go on tangents, but in at the end of the day, she is on the student's team. She is tough, but she will do everything in her power to make sure you don't fail her class.
Flat out, Tally is an okay person but not the best professor. It took a month and a half to receive a paper back! Her expectations for papers are extremely unclear and she is definitely a heavy grader. Shes nice, but that only goes so far. I hope next semester they have more teachers available for this class!
Takes forever to grade and get assignments back. She is very thorough with her comments, but goes way overboard on the grading. She's a nice lady, but I would advise to not take her if you can avoid it. I took her assessing and treating children and adolescents class, but she really only talked about treating young kids. It was disappointing.
Provides a lot of feedback on assignments with contradictory information (too broad yet too specific). Her assignment criteria and instructions are very difficult to understand and have lots of hidden meaning.
Holy moly, the hardest grader I have ever had. Unclear expectations. Never gets through lectures because they are so long.
Overall, Tally is a great human however her lectures tend to be very dry and each one is about 60 or more lecture slides. It was very dry and hard to pay attention and the homework took forever.
Tally Moses is a punitive-oriented instructor more interested in her authority than being an instructor. She's adamant about students following her rules without question. Lectures are poor, TAs had to mitigate her lack of structure in disussion. Test-focused. TAs also had to ease up the homework she created, which was ambiguous and poorly written.
Tally is a great teacher! She is humble and funny, and it is clear she is intelligent about the subject. Outside of class, she is very approachable. It was not an easy class but the B I received was fair and I learned a great deal in this class.
I found Tally to be rude and concerns of the student were minimized
I loved this class! Tally is awesome, she manages to make it interesting even when the material is dry. I took it more recently than some of the other reviewers and I did not see any issues with poor organization. The study guides were very helpful for the tests. It was a challenging class yes, but not impossible.
For her first semester teaching this class, I think she did a fair job. She is very knowledgable about the subject and has extensive field work that she shares with the class, making it more interesting. Course content was very interesting but Tally was disorganized many times. Exams are a bit tough and the questions can be misleading.
Tally was very disorganized and not fair when writing exams. The practice exams and reviews were far easier than the actual exams themselves which left students misled. She also was not very clear in any instructions, writes bad questions to the extent where on the first exam she had to throw out 7 of them. Not helpful and made an easy class hard.
Overall, the class was a good experience. Tally is new to the class this year and did a great job. I will say this, the exams for me at least, we pretty tough compared to the readings and the in class review questions so don't underestimate them.
Completely unorganized. Made students confused about expectations, but it was because she was also confused herself. Lectures/readings pointless b/c she posts all info online, but she takes attendance AND uses clickers so you have to go. Never gave TA clear guidelines for grading so she just did her own thing. Turned me off of SW major completely.
I found Tally to be sporadic and unclear in both her expectations and her descriptions of concepts. The syllabus changed multiple times during our class and when I went to discuss my difficulties in the class I felt that my concerns were minimized and dismissed. I did get an AB in the class so this is not sour grapes.
No matter who you take, Research Methods is going to be boring unless you plan on doing research. Tally is awesome. She's funny and extremely intelligent. She set up a review for the final, two nights in a row, right before the final test. The grade for "easiness" is not based on her style, but for the course. Tally rocks!
It is tough the first half of class. But if you just ask her, she definitely helps you to understand the material. Definitely do the readings to do well in the class. She is awesome.
She was awesome. Super funny and makes the class a blast!
She has changed some of her readings and homework assignments, so I've heard that it's easier and makes more sense now. Research Methods is SOO boring, but Tally is funny and makes sitting through 2 hour lecture more interesting.
A lot (Too much) readings from articles, but overall an effective, interesting and overwhelming course. The workload is difficult but managable if you use your time wisely. I highly recommend this professor. You will learn A LOT!
