Nakakubo sensei is an absolute treat of a teacher who is always on time, prepared, and most importantly always a joy to learn with! She drives a hard ship and always requests a lot out of her students, but if you're up for the task you'll have an amazing experience and learn so much!
Very good teacher and the class was easy + fun. Be ready for daily classes + homework, but that is expected for language classes.
She teaches a foreign language. Take everything you know about any foreign language, and it applies. Be there every day, take notes, practice when you can. Shes an amazing teacher though, loves all the students, and wants everyone to succeed. Will not hold you hand, but will do her best so you can too.
She cares a lot about her students and wants to see everyone succeed. One of the nicest professors I have ever had here at UW. She's also a great teacher! cannot recommend her enough! Just be prepared to put in a lot of work outside of class. It is a 6 credit course for a reason.
Japanese is not an easy language to learn, but Nakakubo-sensei tries to make it as accessible as possible. She is well prepared for class and always has a smile on her face. Participation isn't strictly necessary, but, being a language class, it is recommended. Just a tip: Read the chapter in the textbook before going to class. It really helps!
She is warm-hearted and helpful
Nakakubo-sensi is the best professor I have ever met. She is so kind and the class is well-organized and interesting. The interaction with TAs is also awesome. Basically, this class is wonderful. Previously I did not want to major in Japanese, but because of this class, I really start to consider it.
It is really recommended and interesting class!!! The discussion is everyday, but TA are so nice and funny.
Absolutely amazing class! Nakakubo Sensei's lectures are very well structured and her explanations of concepts are very clear. This was the first language course I've taken that I've really felt a firm grasp on the content and language as a whole. There is daily homework but even the longest homework assignments will take only a half hour.
She is really a good professor! I take the first semester Japanese, which is a 6-credit course. Generally the classwork is tough (3 lectures and 5 discussions a week, quizzes for every unit, and homework almost everyday), but it's fair since it's a 6-credit course. She gives really good speech!!! I can know she does much preparation work.
I really enjoyed class with her - I learned a lot, she is very organized and clear about what is due. She smiles a lot and makes it easy to approach her with any questions or comments.
A very well organized professor unlike many other professors. She speaks clearly and cares about her classes. Her classes adequately guides you in studying for quizes by assigning homework and her own study materials outside of class. Her classes are fast-paced, but that is expected from 6-credit courses. Grading is not very clear. TA are helpful.
I absolutly loved Nakakubo sensei. Extremely friendly and approachable and always willing to help. Most organized class I have ever taken and she was always prepard for class. Japanese is hard to learn but she was so good at explaining things. I can't wait to have her in the future, she is highly recommended.
Amazingly organized class. Great TAs too.
8 hours of Japanese courses per week plus near-daily homework is unbelievably time-consuming and mentally exhausting, though I think that it was worthwhile. Nakakubo-sensei is reasonably clear and helpful. The tests are OK if you do a bit of studying beforehand. Most things aren't super difficult, but the workload is high and constant.
Great sensei. Very enthusiastic and always smiling. ALthough the course reqired committing a lot of timing with homework everyday and quizes twice a week, I couldn't have asked for a better Japanese sensei.
This class was the hardest I've taken at UW. 6cr Japanese is not for the faint at heart. Nakakubo sensei was awesome though, great lectures, kind and eager to help outside of class. Quizzes twice a week, exams, oral exams, and homework everyday is taxing. Study every night. Do not take other challenging classes along with this class.
Nakakubo-sensei is an absolutely extraordinary instructor, highly recommended. To be honest, sometimes her tests felt a bit too easy, and I don't know anybody who took this class that struggled for a good grade.
Great Teacher! I was very nervous about learning Japanese, but Nakakubo-sensei was a wonderful teacher. Yes, there are weekly tests, but she is very structured and made learning Japanese fun and I look forward to lecture every time.
Nakakubo-sensei was by far the easiest professor to understand and approach I had this semester. She explains all material clearly and in a way that is easy to comprehend. Although she gives out quizzes and tests quite regularly, they are not too difficult, as long as you study accordingly. I cannot wait to have her for E ASIAN 104 next semester!
Nakakubo sensei is such a kind and helpful professor. She's very organized and explains all the topics well and in detail. Quizzes are frequent but fair, and if you study a reasonable amount they shouldn't be too much of a problem. While the material itself can be difficult at times, Nakakubo sensei makes it as clear and understandable as possible.
