Bertram was very clear during lecture and was always willing to further clarify concepts. The top hats and in lecture practice problems were very helpful. There were optional textbook readings, but I did not think they were necessary. Exams were fair.
Explained very clearly and kept the lecture interesting with helpful experiments! I would definitely recommend Professor Bertram to any students.
Much clearer expectations that 103, exams were challenging, but fair. Lecture attendance not required but top hat points make up decent part of grade. Did nor appreciate that he would not post lecture slides with annotations. He also went right into examples and did not explain general concepts sometimes
There's a textbook w/ recommended readings which I've always done because it helps a lot with the pre-class assignments. However, technically it's not mandatory. He's a great teacher who explains things very clearly. The TopHat questions throughout the lec are also very helpful. Very engaging.
I really liked Bertram, he was very clear in lecture and went through a lot of practice problems during lectures. I highly recommend going to lecture when you have him, he explains things really well.
Dr. Bertram was a pretty good lecturer, and the general chemistry sequence is well organized.
Super accommodating and was always helpful during office hours. Highly recommend.
Extremely happy to have had Bertram for 104. Struggled a lot in 103 but having him as a professor for 104 really helped. Lectures are easy to follow and VERY helpful if you attend. Overall would take class from him again.
You'll be lucky to have him over other Chem104 profs. Very straight forward in lecture. Highly suggest rewriting lec notes to study for exams. Practice exams are super helpful! Start these days in advance & check w/TA's if you don't know how to do something. Labs don't really help prepare you for exams but required unfortunately. Ask questions!
Bertram is a great teacher, makes lectures very interesting and engaging. The grading criteria/scoring is clear and exams are not very difficult (easier than chem103)
Awesome lecturer, clearly passionate about the topic, wants students to achieve
Very good at explaining concepts in a clear way. Easy to understand and wanted you to achieve.
Chem is hard. bertram understands that and trys his best to make it work. Lectures are smooth, hw is an easy A, curve is generous. Big on prelecture quizzes- easy A.
Professor Bertram is a very good lecturer. he is very articulate in getting his points across. He does a lot of demonstrations in class and we have a lot of Top Hat quizzes during lectures which makes the class more interesting. The lectures might get boring towards the end if you're in a power lecture but overall, I would say he is amazing!
Bertram is a good professor in teaching. He has plenty of energy and passion in teaching his class. Homeworks help a lot, but labs can be graded harshly at times. Exams are fair and most times represent the material learned in class.
He loves chemistry which helps a lot! He makes himself very available and he is very approachable. He is very kind and genuinely wants people to do well. Study hard for the exams with the discussion worksheets. Exams were generally fair. Would definitely want him as a chemistry professor again!
He is a good speaker and does a good job of keeping you awake but he himself will admit that the textbook is the most helpful source. Online homework is easy to get 100% on since there is extra credit but exams are what kill you. Study well before exam and you will do good.
Lectures were all but useless to me. While his demonstrations were quite interesting, I found the lecture content to be presented in a dull manner that made me lose interest quickly. I learned more outside of lecture than in it
I really enjoyed how lectures were put on--Bertram switched between an overhead, slides, and demos to explain concepts and problems very smoothly and clearly. He's a pretty fun and easy-going guy, too. He does expect students to do a lot of the learning through homework and reading, however. Tests could be tough but weren't unfair.
Decent professor. Something about his lectures make them hard for me to follow, but he does a lot of cool demonstrations and posts lecture notes taken by TAs online. Tests are pretty easy and short. Lectures sometimes are a little confusing and I found that I had to do a lot of self teaching, but the material itself isn't too hard.
Bertram is the best for 104. He goes at a nice pace and ensures that everyone is understanding the materials. He does great demos that further enforce the topic. He's also fun and really easy going.. great teacher!! And his tests are pretty easy so that's nice. Overall great class!
