Broman has been doing this for a while, and he has his lectures fine tuned. His class provides a good overview of medicine from the Hippocratic era to modern time, and it's interesting all the way. If you care to, you can get a whole new perspective and understanding from this class. If you don't, you can sneak through without much work.Rate My Professors ↗
Professor Broman is a great lecturer and is worth listening to, but his lectures are really more to supplement the extensive weekly readings. No exams, but a few essays that are focused on general concepts from lecture that require heavy evidence from the readings. Professor Broman was super awesome! I loved the 212 lectures, but really hated the discussion/TA experience, which was no fault of Broman's. The class was pretty easy and super interesting. Paying attention in class is pretty important, but the readings are more of what they're looking for in the papers (which is actually super frustrating).Rate My Professors ↗
I really enjoyed professor Broman's class. His lectures and most readings were interesting and insightful, however, you don't need to do most of the readings in order to write a good essay. I read most of them and the essays were straightforward. 3 essays, no final. Definitely recommend this class.Rate My Professors ↗
Professor was unhelpful in answering questions about essays. Readings assigned every week that are supposed to help in the essays, but I didn't read a single one and still got an A, so do what you will with that info. Interesting topics and lectures. 10/10 would recommend lol.Rate My Professors ↗
Professor Broman is definitely one of my favorite professors at UW. His lectures are fascinating and clear. I've gone to office hours just because he's an interesting person to talk to. The essays were graded fairly -- I wrote the first essay in a NyQuil fog and still got an AB (the TAs aren't heartless). Will take more classes with him for sure.Rate My Professors ↗
