Sunny is awesome. Her lectures are incredibly well structured and engaging. She gives great feedback on assignments and allows resubmissions for everything but the final paper. She is obviously very passionate about the subject matter and it shows in the quality of her lectures.
I really enjoyed Professor Yudkoffs class! She was engaging and made the content interesting and easy to learn. She expects a lot from her students but is always willing to help and answer questions. Attendance in class is mandatory but the lectures are interesting and she engages the class throughout.
She is an exceptional thinker and teacher! I really enjoyed my class with her.
She loves taking random half points and full points off on assignments which at first does not seem like a problem. Half of the time there won't even be an explanation for why these half points were taken off. These points add up and add up causing my grade to keep dropping. I email her over and over to receive a bull shit response.
A lot of these comments had problems with Professor Yudkoff but I didn't see her class this way. I took her for Jewish Humor, and while some lectures could be dry, I found her engaging. She made her expectations clear and allowed re-dos on assignments, exams, and essays based on feedback. There are a lot of readings but be sure to do them!
She is an absolute loser. Hate this lady. Should not be teaching anyone, even pre schoolers. She stinks and is meaner than a bully in a Disney movie. On Wisconsin, but not on with her.
I'm honestly a nice guy haven't had many bad professors in my two years so far. Yudkoff is by far the worst professor I have ever had and it is not close. Her name being Sunny is honestly pretty humorous with how awful she is. It makes me feel ashamed to be Jewish knowing that she shares the same beliefs that I do. She shouldn't have a teaching job
The two reviews below have some odd bones to pick with Professor Yudkoff. She's really not a tough grader. She's not an awful lecturer, either. I thought she was well-spoken, concise, and incredibly smart. Professor Yudkoff was prompt in responding to my emails (always nice!) and is willing to be flexible. She uses contract grading for this class.
I was extremely excited to take Jewish Humor this semester. As it happens, Professor Yudkoff might be the worst possible option to teach this course. Not only does it seem as if she has 0 sense of humor, but she also manages to make a class with such an interesting subject matter incredibly dry. It's a consensus that she's an awful lecturer.
Professor Yudkoff is very intelligent and caring. She made an effort to acknowledge every student and make them feel comfortable and heard. She was very understanding of any extenuating circumstances that made it hard to complete a book or an assignment. She really cares about her students and takes their opinions and thoughts into consideration.
Professor Yudkoff is very organized and really cares for her students. Her lectures explained the reading material very well. Her weekly quizzes were often very specific and related to the lectures. We had three exams, where we could drop the lowest, and three papers that were graded by the TAs.
I liked this class and it's an easy A if you read all the books. I liked about half of the readings, but didn't like the other half and were hard to read. The exams were fair. The papers are a large part of your grade and graded by the TAs, so you're kinda screwed if your TA is a tough grader. Professor Yudkoff is a great and interesting professor!
Professor Yudkoff made a literature class very enjoyable, especially as I do not enjoy reading much. Three papers are assigned throughout the semester but gain weight/percentage as you advance through the course to allow you to adjust. Three extremely fair exams as well with the lowest one dropped. Readings were lengthy but had interesting topics.
Professor Yudkoff was really understanding especially during COVID. She was a very reasonable grader and approachable outside of class.
Literature and Medicine was the beat class I have taken at UW. As a science major, the papers were a bit challenging, but a great learning experience. There are three exams and you can drop one. Professor Yudkoff prepares you well for them as long as you do your readings and go to lecture. She is incredible and willing to help when you need it.
I found that in this class, you will either love or hate what you are doing. That can make the class super interesting, or make it drag on. Unfortunately, I felt somewhat screwed over by my TA in this class, but I would still take the class again because of how much I got out of it.
Only took E156 for the lit credit, but it turned out to be a great experience. Prof Yudkoff knows the material well and articulates it clearly. There is a lot of reading, some small assignments, two papers, a midterm, and a final. If you do the readings, you can easily get an A.
Professor Yudkoff was lovely and she explained everything in a very clear manner. The works she chose for the course were typically engaging and Im glad I got her chance to read them. I highly recommend her class.
Professor Yudkoff is an incredibly smart woman who is super passionate about literature and teaches it very well! I did almost none of the readings and ended with a B, so if you put in more effort this really can be an easy A. There are two essays and the prompts are straightforward. Interesting topic too.
Professor Yudkoff is extremely qualified to teach this course. You need to complete the readings to do well on papers and exams (its easy to fall behind on them). That said, I think she was perfectly fair in her expectations, and always kept lectures relevant and interesting. I recommend ENGL156 for pre-health students who like reading/writing.
Professor Yudkoff has high expectations for a elementary level class. I enjoyed her lectures. However, there was a lack of communication between herself and the TAs. I felt as if my TA really ruined this class for me, and barred me from getting the A I should have received. Interesting class, just too hard of grading.
Professor Yudkoff is passionate about what she teaches, however, this is a 100 level class graded like a 300/400 level class. I took this class for an easy A but found it was far from that. The exams are absolutely ridiculous and not fair whatsoever. Don't take this class unless you are ready to work for a grade you will not receive.
Her exams are mostly quote memorization from 3 books and 7 poems. She doesn't choose quotes that you have discussed but rather random quotes from the readings. Always talks about being short and going to Harvard.
loved Prof. Yudkoff. super nice and kept the class endgaged.
Very interesting lectures, you need to do the readings, but she's very nice and helpful outside class. She takes attendance randomly.
Such a wonderful professor. Would absolutely recommend taking any of her classes. Very reasonable work load. Must attend class and do readings.
- Extremely helpful in office hours - Extra credits for public lectures - Pretty interesting lectures
I usually do not enjoy classes that revolve around literature and/or writing, but Professor Yudkoff really made this course enjoyable for me. She is the sweetest person ever, and encourages everyone to participate in the class discussions. Her feedback on papers is extremely helpful. Sometimes the readings are long, but it's easy to work ahead.
Wonderful professor. Caring, forgiving, and always makes sure you feel like your ideas are valid.
