He's not good at explaining things, even when you ask him questions after class. The course content is already difficult, and you cannot get enough support from him. The exam was confusing, with problems chosen from textbook in a broad range. There are no correct answers provided. His lecture is super boring, making me lose my interest.
Lectures closely followed the textbook. Wasn't great at responding to questions; they often didn't look up from writing on the board and would cite previous results without much explanation. Grading was fair. They basically told us what material was on exams. Attendance not required, but many examples from lecture showed up verbatim on exams.
It felt like he didn't prepare for class, he just flipped through the handouts before class and then did some puzzling proofs on the board himself during class, and not many people understood what he was doing. His syllabus was originally set at 90A 85AB and eventually curved down to 92A 89AB, which was ridiculous.
It will be fine if you choose his section, and you are a PhD candidate on analysis.
I took Math 340 which is the non-proof version of linear algebra. to my surprise, this guy would spend 20-30 minutes a lecture doing proofs that we were never tested on. I have no clue why. Lectures were recorded so I could just skip the part. He's not clear in his lecturing, and I learned the most by just doing the previous term exams to prepare.
His lectures are incredibility confusing, to the point where he himself would get confused halfway during the lecture because he is confused by his own train of thoughts. Difficulty of exam variates wildly from test to test, with no consistency. Do not recommend.
The final is just a collection of all hws and the previous 2 midterms. Quite easy.
Just don't take any classes with this teacher for your own sanity.
You are better off not going to class and just teaching yourself because lecture is a waste of time. It feels like you are just watching someone try to solve math problems instead of actually explaining what they are doing. He also gets confused a lot and the few students who know what's going on have to correct him.
Doesn't look up for questions as much as he should. Can't even understand him half of the time. Makes simple concepts hard to understand. Lectures are not useful at all. Will answer questions after class, but isn't available for very long. If you take Math340 with him, just know, you will be on your own.
Excellent, knowledgable and approachable math teacher. His class is easy to follow, and you can always meet him during office hour or ask him questions after class. He also provides additional proof to each theorem, and linear algebra focus on the definition a lot. Math 340 is an easy class, if you attend his class and follow him, you will be fine.
