amazing, most straight forward professor I've ever had. Was clearly interested in the content and also excited to share the information with us
Dr. Coyle is amazing! Engaging lecturer, funny, great at explaining, and just a great guy. Very dense and fast-paced lectures, so I would either review ahead or rewatch afterward to go over material again and retain it. He's super available outside of class, answers all your question, and sets clear expectations for material. Best 501 professor!
Engaging, funny, genuine, talented teacher, and an all-around good dude. Lectures are dense and move fast, so do yourself a favor by downloading/printing the slides in advance. Explains things very straightforwardly (well, as straightforward as you can get in biochem). I wish I had a Dr. Coyle for all my classes!
Dr. Coyle had very engaging lectures. The lectures were definitely dense and had a lot of information. The lectures are fast paced, but not too difficult to follow along. He did a great job of clearly explaining things and emphasizing what you need to know. By far the best professor in Biochem 501.
Dr. Coyle is very passionate about what he teaches despite it being unappealing to most students. He is very engaged in his lectures and explains complex topics of nucleic acids very well. However, his lectures are extremely dense, with slideshows between 50-60 slides across a 50 minute time slot, and very little breathing room.
Professor Coyle's lectures were always very interesting. Outside of class he was also very friendly, clarified confusing concepts and showed he cared about the students. He also makes sure to concepts clearly with intuitive analogies and helpful videos.
Excellent lecturer, very clear at explaining concepts and great at highlighting what's actually important. I like his lecturing style too, he can hold my attention
This is one of the best professors i have had at UWM. He is very clear and concise with his lectures and requirements for exams. He explains everything in a way that is easily understood. I have really enjoyed learning from him!!!
Great teacher; very concise lectures and the way he explains things are simple and meaningful. He's very kind too and extremely helpful.
He teaches the genetics unit for biochemistry and I really enjoyed his lectures. I thought they were easy to understand, interesting, and well-paced. He is also a really nice and funny person!
Coyle was really good during lectures and his slides were straightforward, but a lot of slides per lecture at around 50. He keeps a good pace and answers questions well.
Professor Coyle not only wants you to succeed, but he also wants you to care about the subject matter. I will admit that biochem is a very heavy class in terms of content, but professor Coyle provides so many resources like additional videos and readings to help support the learning objectives.
Professor Coyle really takes the time to make lectures clear and easy to follow along with. His section was dense but he made the material much more manageable. He was very accessible outside of class and had clear expectations.
Best 501 lecturer of the bunch. I had little interest in genetics but ended up with my highest exam score from his portion of the class due to how engaging and clearly he teaches. He also will send you supplemental material about lecture topics that interest you if you ask. Comes across as very down to earth and giddy to teach about his passion
Goes through lecture slides VERY fast and isn't very entertaining to listen to. It was mostly stuff I knew already otherwise I probably would've been lost. Exams were just like the practice exams, so study those. And you get to drop 1 exam in the class. Indifferent to taking him again
Dr. Coyle is the gold standard when it comes to STEM college professors. His lectures were extremely organized, active, explanatory, and really just amazing. He provides a very clear way to study for the exams, basing his questions off of the lecture objectives which are extremely helpful. Charismatic, engaging, youthful, and superb teacher.
Dr. Coyle makes complex concept super accessible on the slide. He listens to students patiently and gives accurate answer, provides quick feedback, and puts a lot of efforts to help more students to visualize the concept by drawing, doing handy work, and program. His 1 month teaching make me understand the concept I struggled a year in the AP bio.
Prof. Coyle is honestly one of very few 5/5 professors I've had. He makes some pretty complex material very understandable, and creates a great flow for his lectures. He's great to listen to, and the exam for his module was VERY fair in comparison to the first exam. Plus he can yoyo.
Dr. Coyle teaches the genetic information transfer section of Biochemistry 501. I took this class during the summer. He provided optional videos to help understand topics. I highly recommend viewing these. They made it much easier.
Great Lecturer! His lectures explained all the concepts you need to know in very well and did not spend time discussing irrelevant material. He was also funny in lecture! His practice exams were extremely similar to his actual exam which made it very easy to study. Accessible office hours and held a helpful review session!
I love him so much! One of the best professors I have had at UW and his exam was definitely fair. It is the same format as the practice exams and he doesn't try to trick you. Really cares about you understanding the material and he is pretty funny in his lectures too.
Scott was awesome! Probably my favorite lecturer I've had here at UW so far. He was so funny and added so much supplemental material for the people who wanted it. The unit for his exam was very reasonable and the content matched what was expected. Wish I could rate higher.
Scott is the best of the 4 biochem professors. His teaching is fantastic and his exams are the only ones that correlate directly to his lectures. The powerpoint that he has made are also very interactive and his online teaching was great! Genuinely an amazing professor.
By far the best professor I have had in the last few years. His lectures are well-thought-out and in combination with his raw talent for teaching makes me look forward to going to his lectures every single time. 10/10 would take one of his classes again.
Honestly such a sweetie. His lectures are very clear & concise, and he does a good job of keeping it interesting. 11/10
I am in the middle of Dr. Coyle's first semester teaching in person and the guy has a natural ability for instructing. Not only does he engage listeners in his lecture, but he goes beyond to create "accessory" videos where he better explains major concepts using teaching aides. We need more Dr. Coyle's at this school.
He is a very good lecturer. Lectures are very fun and engaging. I learned a lot from his lectures, and looked forward to class everyday.
Prof Coyle was amazing as his first time teaching the final unit of Biochem 501. I didn't take his exam, because we can drop an exam in this class, so I can't speak to the difficulty/fairness of the exam. However, as a professor he was great. More than willing to answer questions. He made supplemental videos for every lecture!!
Prof. Coyle did a great job, especially with it being his first time teaching. His accessory videos were helpful for the harder concepts, and his review sessions focused on material that will be seen on the exam. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Coyle's section was difficult, but he broke things down super well & didn't ask unreasonably specific or obscure questions on the exam. In addition to great lectures, he made accessory videos which were a nice way of practicing/building on lecture material. The material itself wasn't my favorite, but Dr. Coyle still made it a v fun experience!
Professor Coyle is a really nice and funny guy who makes you want to learn about biochem and enjoy his lectures. In addition to virtual lectures, he also created "accessory videos" which provided aids to help better understand the content enough to understand how to succeed on the multiple-choice exams.
