Ethusiastic, charismatic, legendary.

Great lecturer. The homework is difficult but not crazy. The exams are very fair. He did these 5 minute quizzes that were 20% of the grade on things often from the previous lecture. Be worried about them.

The best math professor I have had. Made a very challenging Math 322 course very digestible due to the quality of the lectures. Very open to questions during office hours and tries really hard to break down tough concepts. Clearly cares a ton about his students success. Exams are very reasonable and not insanely hard. 100% would take him again.

An incredible teacher, one of the best in the math department IMO. He relaxed the course difficulty throughout the semester in response to student scores, and was always available on piazza or office hours. Posts lecture notes, and the exams and homework are graded generously. Would go out of my way to take another of his classes

2 years ago I had him for Math222. I still hold a grudge. In short, after the first exam I had a 26% in the class due to delayed grading of the problems. As a naive freshman, I was very panicked by this. Instead of explanation this guy replied with rude emails and said the 26% was my fault. My grade was later fixed, but his true colors came out.

Saverio was great. His lectures were engaging and he's very charismatic. He does a great job of breaking down very difficult concepts to effectively teach them.

Great prof!

Prof. Spagnolie does a good job with his lectures; they were shorter videos divided by topic and were helpful 95% of the time. His homework was good prep for the exams, and exams were proctored and more or less the same difficulty as homework. Having in-person discussions was the most helpful part because it gave time to go over topics with others.

Professor Spagnolie did the best he could to make covid-learning easier. He was accesible, though weirdly condescending at times. But overall really caring about his students and a great professor. Would recommend.

The lectures were not very clear and did not help with doing the homeworks and tests. He went really fast and couldn't explain his point clearly. The tests were similar to the homework, but very difficult. I did not enjoy taking this class at all, because I felt that I basically had to teach myself everything.

Although the online course for Math 222 was lecture heavy his teaching methods and effort really made difference. Although I had already taken Calculus BC in high school my knowledge on series was sparse. He really helped me refresh and is willing to take the time to explain minute details during office hours. Take him if you have the option.

He is a very good professor, especially among the notorious math department. Watch his lectures and complete the homework and you should be good. His lectures are engaging and he never fails to advertise advanced math courses pertaining to the topic being taught at that time. He is fun/engaging and a solid choice.

Tremendous professor who cares deeply about mathematics. This class is notorious for being difficult, but Saverio made it interesting and worthwhile. Do the work, show up to lectures and discussions, and you can get a good grade.

Saverio is a God amongst men. People often say they have difficulty focusing in his lectures, but that's normal in a power lecture when the topics aren't always interesting. However, he tries and often succeeds in making them interesting. He cares about his students and loves teaching others. As long as you do the work, Saverio is worth your time.

Professor Spagnolie is very kind and extremely passionate about calculus, and he takes the time to connect the material to the real world in fascinating ways. He is very bright, and sometimes his lectures went over my head, so make sure to read the textbook like he tells you to. Calc 2 is hard in general but he is a great professor.

Professor spagnolie is really passionate about math, which for me is always a plus. He gives a lot of examples in class and barely any proofs, making learning the material way easier. The exams and material in calc 2 is really hard, so be sure to go to every lecture and take advantage of his office hours

In my experience, the math department at UW Madison is hit or miss. Professor spagnolie is easily one of the best professors Ive had. He teaches a hard class, but still manages to make it fairly easy to understand the material. Hes well respected among students and his classes follow a clear structure.

Tests were hard but great lectures

Awesome math professor! Teaching was very clear and exams were not difficult if you spent some time preparing for them.

He makes hard concepts manageable to follow. One of the best lecturers I have had. Exams are veryy hard and the final will be the worst one when it comes to difficulty. I was at an A the whole semester and the final dropped me down to a B because it was so hard and 40% of my grade. Do not take the final lightly even if you've done well all semester

Prof Spagnolie knows his stuff. Lectures are clear and organized. The materials are presented in a good flow. This is not an easy class but Saverio makes it more manageable. Do the homework and go to lecture and you should be fine. He really cares about your performance in the class.

Saverio is a great professor! He explains topics quite well and adds some humor to his lectures. While this class may be dreaded just due to the topics covered, Saverio really tries to make it manageable as possible. Do the homework and read the text book and you will do just fine!

Incredibly knowledgeable and approachable. Has an appealing sense of humor when he lectures. Course work was fairly challenging but definitely manageable.

His lectures are great, but if you skip them it will be hard to take the tests. He does go over stuff very extensively, and his examples are very well explained. He also writes very clearly on the board, so it is very easy to see and read. I would definitely recommend.

His teaching style threw me off for the first few weeks but it gets better. Lectures are a little redundant so you only really need to pay attention for like half the class.

Saverio is a good professor, but math 222 is hard. You'll have to work for the grade you earn.

He's so excited to teach, and it makes learning the material much more welcoming and exciting. He also knows the subject and shares that knowledge very well. I wish I could have him as a professor again!

Amazing professor. Awesome mastery of the material and the class.

The best math proffesor I've had in my life. He genuinely wants his students to pass his class and he is easy to understand during lectures. The content is very difficult and having a teacher who knows exact;y how to explain the work is much needed. He gives out a lot of work but it is definitely worth in in the end. 10/10 would recommend!!!

There're lots of homework, while exams are much tougher than homework and quizzes or anything covered in class. Would NOT recommend taking him.

Saverio is a pretty good professor, he teaches things well with lots of examples. The homework is very, very hard and covers things we skim over, or haven't gotten to yet. The exams are terribly hard, they combine topics and cover things we didn't learn well enough. He also doesn't curve until the end of the semester so you are left in the dark.

his lectures were amazing at the beginning of 222, however, as soon as taylor series and convergency started, his lecture was uhhhh..... his test can be "surprising".....

Was an okay teacher. Final exam contained material that was not reviewed in lecture or discussion. Homework and lecture problems were significantly easier than any quiz or test. 90% of grade is based on tests.

Professor Spagnolie is a wonderful professor and the way he presents the class really makes you enjoy mathematics. Every class is something new and he always tries to present the intricacies of the subject in a way that makes you really enjoy mathematics and its way of explaining the world. The tests are challenging, but I highly recommend him.

Terrible. Up to 40 HW problems a week, often 4X that of other professors. Some are so hard even T.A.s can't do them and need wolfram. Only provides answers to 3 of the easiest ones. Exams are on random material not covered in class or in the book. Doesn't provide practice exams. Exam averages are 25%+ lower than other professors. Worst Professor.

He had us do readings from the textbook every week but everything we read was gone over in lecture so if you were confused at all, he could help you understand the material and you could go to his office hours if more help was needed.

really enjoyed his lectures. the class is tough and the exams are difficult regardless of who you have for a professor but the curve is nice. i'd definitely take another one of his classes

awesome lecturer but sometimes a little bit boring. the exams are hard but we got curve. You gotta work hard on it. Never promise an A until you see it.

Great lecturer, but a few questions on the exams were on topics not covered in class.

his exams are mind-numbingly difficult and he is super theoretical. You may have to put in more effort than required.

He is actually awesome!!!!!!

his classes are super funny. he explains things pretty clearly. taking his class again next semester!

Best professor I've had at UW so far. He is really passionate about the subject and communicated its importance well. Lectures were clear and helpful; he made them fun too.

Excellent professor for this course. Really felt like he wanted us to understand and appreciate the applications of the course. Spend a lot of time on the homework, as it is worth 25% of your grade and will really help in preparing for the midterms. All three midterm exams were in class and their content/grading was very reasonable.

One of the best math professors I have had at UW-Madison. I enjoyed taking Math 320 with Professor Spagnolie, after hating my Calc classes here. It is very apparent that Professor Spagnolie has a love for math, and he wants to share it with his students. Homework while long at times, really helps you understand the material. Tests were fair.

Professor Spagnolie writes and speaks clearly, but teaches very quickly and it's easy to get lost (especially as a non-math major). He is very passionate about math and that is clear to see in his lecturing. Homework is reasonable and accounted for 1/4 of my final grade. I highly recommend reading the book to learn. Tests were very difficult.
