Lectures were important, but the slides were rather empty, so make sure to listen closely to key points. A lot of "pop quizzes", which she'll most likely warn you about beforehand, are based off readings each week. Prof. Suarez is Indigenous herself so she was able to give a really important perspective on many topics in class.

Lectures are very boring and content-heavy, and her slides don't help much for copying notes or learning outside of class. There is a lot of reading outside of class that is also very boring. All quizzes and tests were online and open notes, which made the class really easy. If you can suffer through lecture and talk in section, it's an easy A.

Information was given mostly by her talking and the slides were bare-boned, so be ready to take notes. Pop quizzes were given based on reading or lecture content, but weren't too hard. Your grade depends on 2 assignments, 2 exams, and discussion participation, so make sure you talk a lot. Overall your grade basically depends on how harsh your TA is

Professor Suarez cares a lot about the subject, and her lectures are informative, albeit not overly engaging. She presented a lot of valuable insight in the class and provided many extra credit opportunities by the end of the year. The only downside of the class is that your grade hinges on only a handful of assignments and two exams.

Absolute Nightmare, The lectures are boring she posts no text on the slides even though she reads off of note cards anyways and Its entirely unclear to me whether she actually wants to teach a class. Your TA matters too, mine was not great, which made the class even more rough. So many books and they honestly provide very little insight as well.

She's fine. Her initial history lectures were rough (she read off of index cards), but became much more engaging once we got to modern issues she clearly had more knowledge in. Text on slides is scarce but the actual tests are so easy it isn't even worth complaining about. I ended with close to a 99.5%. Absurd. Make sure to talk in discussion.

If you like to talk in discussion, then this class is the right place for you. Unfortunately, I wasted my time and went to every discussion but didn't talk, which costed me an AB. I aced pretty much every assignment but didn't get an A because of participation. Professor reads off of note cards so I almost fell asleep everyday.

Very little information on the slideshows and she talks very fast so it can be hard to get all information needed for the many quizzes. Midterm and Final was split into two parts - online portion and in person portion. Online portions were open note, in-person was short answer but prompts were given before exam and allowed a note sheet. Easy A

This class was extremely informative to me, and I did learn a lot working with friends to understand content. I recommend having slides info written down before lecture, and then writing down things she says because chances are it will be on the next test or quiz. Participate in discussion, pay attention during lecture and you will be just fine.

I only had 2 lectures a week, along with a discussion. When it comes to the end of the semester, you will wish that you had gone to lectures because there will be questions about what have we discussed in the particular week and goes over a lot. There may be pop-quizzes also, along with extra credit, only when in class.

She was not a good professor, read off the notecards with no words on the screen, very boring, I thought work could've been instresting but she was not engaging at all. I got more out of my dicussions rather than the lectures.

Sasha is my favorite professor that I've had this semester. She offers insightful nuance into American Indian Studies that really only comes from someone that is Native. This class is going to be hard if you are not interested in American Indian Studies, so tread lightly. Slides are posted on canvas but everything is taught in lecture.

A lot of the information you need to know she doesn't put on the slides, so be sure to take notes on what she says. There are very little assignments, so one point off can determine your grade. She is very passionate about what she teaches. I loved learning about the subject, but the class definitely could have been structured better.

You need to find a way to record her speaking. She discusses 75% of content orally, and 25% is on lecture slides. TAs can grade harshly, you'll need to seak them out at office hours to get feedback. They take way too long to grade assignments, as well.

She preaches attendance, but doesn't do TopHat or anything, so she makes 2-3 point quizzes every other week-ish with questions that are stupidly specific or easy (no in btwn). Slides are barebones and she read off of not cards. Very approachable, knowledgeable and passionate. Your grade lowkey depends on how harsh or not you TA is.

Professor Suarez doesn't seem super interested in the course material and lectures were pretty boring and read off of note cards. Lecture slides are very minimal so you have to pay close attention in lectures. You have maybe 2-3 assignments that make up the large majority of your grade, but overall the course is not too challenging.

The lectures are interesting but are hard to follow at times. Grade for this class is fully dependent on if your TA grades harshly or not.

Poor lecturer. Poor teacher. Depends heavily on Taste, yet mine was quite awful. Too few assignments so if you mess one up you're done. Will not make accommodations. Lecture is read of script and YouTube videos. Tests try to make you fail. Easy content without nuance yet quality of class/teaching makes it miserable. Terrible.

3 Textbooks = long weekly readings. Her lecture slides are literally just a title. The actual info she just reads quickly and not very clearly off of a side. Midterm and Final were not well written and were terrible at testing understanding, especially the short answer parts. Your TA matters, mine was not helpful in my learning the content at all.

i LOVE prof. suarez. i've taken multiple classes with her and they were all amazing. she genuinely cares about students & was always fun to talk to outside of class. every class i've taken with her she's had multiple extra credit opportunities, so if you're struggling with the material there's built in support for that. one of my favorite profs

Unnecessarily difficult exams, but everything else was easy. Cares a lot about the topic and is very interesting.

easy content but uh i just think she could've done better, especially on exam reviewing and preparation

The lectures give you most of the information you need to pass this class, listen take good notes, and if you completely don't understand read and talk to TA. If you listen in class and go to lecture expect an A. meet with TAs they help put the pieces of the course together and explain how exams are graded. overall good class, teacher.

This is not an easy a class for ethics study credit. The tests are written very poorly, there quiz questions designed to trick people. Very hard to learn information from lecture slides. The grading standards for short answers responses are very unclear.

Dr. Suarez structured the class terribly. Her lecture slides were barebones with almost no information on them. She justified this by saying it would promote students going to lectures. The issue with this is that her lectures consisted of her lazily reading off of a sheet and playing Youtube videos. Her tests were poor at evaluating understanding.

It is very clear that she understands and is knowledgeable on the topics she teaches. While she does understand her material well, she isn't too good at presenting it. She was usually hard to hear and she'd often read her lectures off of a sheet instead of looking out at the students. Overall, her teaching style left much to be desired.

I came into this class only because I needed three ethnic studies credits, now this course is bringing down my GPA. Your grade depends almost entirely on which TA you had, one was way too difficult and the other easy. She'll say you technically aren't required to attend the discussion, but then it's graded based on attendance. Infuriating.

The lectures were quite boring and hard to hear, she did not seem to care about her students and was very difficult to reach outside of class. She read most of her lectures from a script, which felt really pointless as we all could have read the script on our own. It was an easy class if you take decent notes.

This class was great! While sometimes lectures weren't the most entertaining, Professor Suarez is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. I 100% recommend taking even if it is just for the ethnic studies requirement. Readings are more than manageable, and she provides a safe space for anyone to share their thoughts.
