Your entire grade is mostly based off of your midterm, final, and book report- I think there is 5 grades in the grade book the entire year. The class is easy but TA's grade hard on open response so beware of that. Dr Schalk is nice but you never see her besides lecture. Class is very content heavy but is easy.

Dr. Schalk is a good professor. She offered engaging course material, grading was very fair, and though there were several papers, it was manageable. The only thing I didn't like about the course was the way class time was organized. The activities and discussions seemed experimental and often didn't work for me.

Dr. Schalk is a great lecturer! The course content is really interesting and engaging. Lecture isn't mandatory and you can watch it online at any time. There is only two exams and one book report which makes the class easy to understand. As long as you watch lecture and read you'll do great.

Sami truly cares about her students and teaching. She made sure that students understood what was expected and helped those who needed it. The class was mostly discussion-based and allowed students to interact with each other and learn by talking about the material. Sami also made sure that students knew they were worth more than just a grade.

Would take any class that Dr. Schalk is teaching. She is a wonderful person who genuinely cares about her students.

Sami is amazing. Motivating and a real role model. Class is fascinating, not super difficult. Lots of creative work, mostly graded on effort/completion. She is hilarious and super understanding- reminds you of your worth as a person outside of grades and academia. Incorporates intersectionality in a holistic/welcoming way. Can't recommend enough.
