Reading through these reviews, I had to do a double-take to make sure I was on the right professor. Prof Rios is such a kind and good-hearted woman. The class is super discussion-based, so make sure to do the readings and participate. Most of the students were white even though we were talking about environmental justice. Still, important content.

This class was SO unorganized, and I felt like every single responsibility fell on the TA. Truly the only thing that matters is the readings and 3 essays, up until the 50 question midterm on random concepts from the slides. Then a 1500 word final paper based on tons of readings. That being said, Professor Rios is super nice.

Sarah is an alright professor, but I had several issues: for one, she isn't very tech savvy, and exam questions were often misleading or contained typos. She isn't the most personable or accommodating, either, but it helped that my TA was. There are definitely better professors in the sociology department, but Sarah is just okay.

I honestly really liked her. Yeah, the readings were hard but it's a 4 credit class you have to expect it. Most things were completion grades and if you study and do well on the midterm, final, and book report exams you'll do great. She's super nice and understanding as well, just make sure you do the readings and ask your TA for questions!

Despite not being too interested in sociology I enjoyed her class. There are a lot of readings that can be difficult, but 75% grade is completion based. The tests aren't too difficult, but heavily reference the reading. She gives good perspectives, and I learned a lot, so if you're fine with reading I highly recommend.

Professor Rios makes it obvious that she thinks students need to struggle in order to learn. She assigns very difficult readings, 2-3 a week, and relies on the TA to explain them to you. Additionally, your grade relies mostly on a couple big tests and sporadic book reports. Otherwise her class was very interesting and straightforward.

(took course online Spring 2021) Professor Rios is a genuine, caring, human being. Regarding the class, there were quite a bit of small assignments that took time, but usually, people did well on them. The exams were a little tricky, but she provides a study guide that was helpful to prepare. Be sure to attend lecture and discussion!

Sociology major here. This professor was honestly really cool. I really enjoyed her class and I thought she at least tried to make lectures interesting. I know that some people didn't like the class, but that is probably 1) They didn't show up all the time or 2) She can come off as very liberal and pro environment/worker.

Prof. Rios is a nice person who seemed to really consider student feedback. Didn't learn much from lecture though - it was a very basic survey course and I knew most info already. Took this class as a prereq, and it was a pretty easy A if you're doing that, but don't expect to learn much if you're taking it because you're interested in the field.

Just don't take this class. It is so unorganized. She is never on top of anything and gives out info about assignments terribly. Most of the time, if not all, my classmates and I have to discuss what is going on in a gc to figure out what we have to do. It is almost finals and idk my actual grade because nothing is graded from early march to now.

the most boring lectures I have ever had in a sociology class. literally taught us nothing, it was all common sense. her lectures were awful as she read off of a poorly-written lecture slide and made us watch movies that taught us nothing. she is a very very nice lady though and I do think she means well, it was just a waste of my time.

If you want to take a sociology class, DO NOT take this one. This class was a complete waste of time. I do not think I learned a single thing--the assignments and essays are simply busy work. The lectures are extremely boring because she reads off of a piece of paper. I honestly think she didn't even know what she was lecturing about.

Does she even have a degree? She was a terrible lecturer, extremely boring and half the class was "think pair share". Half the time she couldn't get the technology to work. THE biggest waste of my time. As a Mcburney student, she didn't respond to my accommodation request until a few days before the test. Unprofessional. At least she was nice

Professor Rios is one of the most caring, passionate, and down to earth professors Ive ever had! She reads off a piece of paper during lecture and it can get boring. However it was extremely easy to get an A with much extra credit. Basically gives you the exam before the actual exam (study guides are exams)

If you are thinking about taking CES140 with her, AVOID!!! She is a very caring woman but not a good lecturer at all. The class is a joke. Lectures are very boring and assignments are busy work. She just reads directly off of text that sounds like she just copied and pasted for the whole entire lecture. Just a waste of time.
