He was so boring. Nice guy but really boring and the TA's graded so inconsistently. His exams were really easy but lots of reading.

Great professor! Funny and engaging lectures..you don't HAVE to go but is beneficial. Discussions are easy to participate in. You have 4 BIG papers: if you read rubric and textbook you'll do good on them. Final Exam was SO easy: short answer given beforehand and multiple choice VERY similar to quizzes ;) Would definitely take again!

Amazing prof and perfect level of breadth and difficulty for an intro ENVS class. It is clear Beattie is both knowledgable and cares deeply about his students. Lectures/papers are engaging and thought provoking but course is overall low stress. 112 was well-structured, interesting, and forgiving if you need to miss.100% would recommend!

Professor Beattie's lectures were engaging and you can tell he is very enthusiastic about the topics. The module essays are useful for understanding the content and make up most of your grade in the class.

I loved this class and the way he taught it! Heavily graded on papers but we got time to work on them during discussion... easy to do well on, integrated lots of course content. Had quizzes which were a bit challenging because some questions were very specific but still manageable. The final exam was composed of quiz questions. Highly recommend!

Beattie is such a nice professor. Always helpful and genuinely cares about his students. The class was an easy A, and our essays were graded very clearly. You do have to go to discussion (attendance points), but in all, this class was not stressful at all. Had about a week to do an essay, quizzes were open note, and the final was old quiz questions

Had him this fall. Easy A. You get 4 essays and 5 open note but timed canvas quizzes and a final exam that is word for word the quiz questions and that's about it. No homework except reading, which tbh I didn't really do at all unless I was researching for one of the essays. His lectures are interesting and he's nice, would take again.

I switched into this class after the first week and Beattie was very helpful in getting me caught up. Whenever I had a question he was quick to respond and always available during his office hours. I greatly enjoyed his lectures and the way he challenged us to think. Asked him to be a reference for an application and he was very excited about it.

He clearly loves what he is talking about. This may be the easiest class I have ever taken in my life. Graded on 4 loosely graded papers, easy to get 100% on. Sometimes lecture gets a bit boring. There is not much takeaway from this class but trivia and a gpa boost. I would highly recommend.

Discussions mandatory (can miss 1-2). Graded based mostly on 4 papers, a few open note quizzes, and a final (worth 10%). He is fun and passionate about the topics he teaches and cares about students, but it can get boring and repetitive at times. Spent a lot of time talking about race/politics, wish we would have focused more on environment itself

Professor Beattie is funny and clearly passionate about the material he teaches. Homework will consist of optional daily readings, very few online quizzes, and 4 essays. ENVIR ST/GEOG 139 is extremely similar to this class, but I recommend taking this instead of that if you are debating. If you are curious or need the credits, take this class!

I took beattie's class during covid and loved it. Super interesting and when I tested positive he is very caring to give extensions and help out. There's a lot of readings but nothing that's stressful and most is to the point. He's really passionate about his studies and makes it known that he cares about his students.

I loved learning from Prof Beattie; he's caring, understanding, and interesting. He livestreams all of his lectures to make it accessible to everyone. Quizzes are online and open note so theyre usually manageable. Writing assignments arent bad either, very straightforward. Exam was a breeze since he basically tells you everything you need to know.

Professor Beattie's passion for the subject shines through during his lectures, which are interesting and cover a wide range of topics relevant to current issues. The text is easy to read, and attendance is mandatory in discussion section but not in lecture. Grades are heavily based on papers, which are easy to score highly on.

Okay take this class if your passionate about the environment and you understand deep thinking about ways to fix/understand the environment but ur pretty much on ur own for this class

Dr. Beattie is a really nice professor that gives great lectures. Some people might say that you need to do the readings, but I literally almost never read any of the textbook and still got an A on almost every quiz. Just have your notes out before the quiz and you'll do fine. Essays should be pretty easy if you put effort into them.

Robert Beattie cares about what he teaches and his students, the class is super interesting and if you show up and do the readings you will do well on the papers for sure. Prompts can be a little confusing but you can always ask for clarification

4 1000 word papers make up most of your grade, but they are extremely easy to get an A on. 5 10 question online quizzes are a small part of your grade. The final is open note and only worth 10% of your grade. Beattie is a good lecturer and and always seems genuinely excited to teach. Read the textbook but skim the other readings.

Prof is really sweet but lectures aren't engaging and really boring. If you took APES in high school this class is pretty much a repeat... I've taken maybe 5 pages of notes all semester. Stubborn about Dec. 21 final and has started cold calling for some reason? Good guy but this class is the reason I'm changing my major.

Although some of the class material is interesting, Beattie does not really get straight to the point and rambles a lot. The prompts for papers are excessively long, and directions for how to go about writing the essays are vague. The quizzes can feel demanding- asks very specific questions regarding lectures & readings. They aren't terrible though

Nice professor, the workload is light and the papers are slight work. The only challenge I faced was that I did not understand how to study for his quizzes. I did fairly well on the quizzes but there was no organized work to study off of.

Dr. Beattie is super passionate about environmental science, and very caring/understanding as well. I got a great TA, but the discussions could have been very boring if that wasn't the case. There are a bunch of readings, but I literally only did one the whole semester and I was fine. He's great at helping you learn from different perspectives!

Great class, great professor. 50/60 of the final exam questions were taken directly from the quizzes so it was super easy to ace as long as you go back and study the answers. Topics in the class were engaging and interesting. The papers are straightforward and easy to write. The only thing that brought down my grade was the quizzes, but not by much

Hes knowledgeable and easy-going. Cares about everyones input, and gets you to consider environmental issues from unique perspectives. The only major grades are 5 1000 word papers, which combined are worth 60% of your grade. You should attend lecture in order to know what to write about in these papers. Participation alone is 15% of your grade.

This man found a bee in the lecture hall and carried it out throuh the building in his hand and let it go outside. He is a legend. He is obviously passionate not only about bees but the environment as well and it shows in his lectures. He teaches in a moderately impartial manner and he acknowledges his own possible bias.

Take this class if you're looking for an easy A with minimal work. A one page paper is due almost each week, along with two five page papers as a midterm and final. No tests, and easy grading. Approached as a survey class, so very little of anything is covered in any detail.

Great professor. Boring class with a moderate amount of work, but a pretty easy A. The content is interesting too!

This class is absolutely boring. VERY easy A though if you actually show up. Discussion is basically pointless and painful if your TA sucks. 11 reading responses and a midterm and final paper. Half the grade is just for showing up to class. I rarely listen to lecture and just sit on facebook for 50 mins. Would recommend for easy SS credits.

The class is basically an open discussion, he doesn't lecture or teach you anything in general. I spend most lectures doodling or playing tic tac toe with neighbors. Don't go unless you want to listen to the same 6 people continually discussing things you already know. No tests, but attendance is mandatory along with weekly essays and projects.

Awesome guy, recomend taking him! Total bro!
