About the best I could have expected from a professor of an 'intro to psychotherapy' class, she was obviously very knowledgeable and experienced, and I found her lectures engaging and enjoyed the variety in assignments. also liked the eagle cams
PSYCH 601: Prof. will make her words seem full of sugar, but the saying is too much sugar makes your mouth rotten, and that's the taste she left in my mouth after this semester. If she doesn't like your writing right away, leave the class. Your grade will not improve.
Great prof, learned a lot, and the info was interesting and sometimes funny. If you put in a moderate amount of work, youll do good. Her tests are long and grueling but necessary for this sort of class. A lot of questions are based on what she lectures, so go to class and write down everything she says. Very psychodynamic heavy, which I didnt like
Overall, I have really enjoyed Clinical psychology. Lectures are engaging, and Rhonda has a really positive and encouraging demeanor. It is easy to comfortably participate, and most people end up with As or ABs. The only downside is that there is a short essay assignment due every class, but that does help keep you honest in keeping up with work.
I had high hopes for this class, but I cant say its what I expected. There were so many small writing assignments and a paper, all with extremely subjective and unclear grading criteria. Definitely need to attend lectures to do well on the tests, but also read the research articles for specific details. Interesting stories but weird class overall
While Rhonda seems like a great person, her grading techniques are completely subjective and leave a lot to be desired. You can put in just as much/more work than others in your class but if she doesn't like the way you write, you won't get an A. Disappointing class to say the least, take another capstone.
Her anecdotes are engaging and I learned a lot of good life advice; however, it is unclear what to take notes on. Material is mucky. Exams were short answer and grading was completely arbitrary. For someone who talks about countertransference every lecture, she didn't use any objective grading. It is unclear how she determined evaluations.
She is of the psychodynamic perspective AND DOES NOT ADDRESS ANY OTHER PERSPECTIVES. It is really not so much a "fundamentals of clinical psychology" class as it is a "professor talks about her love for Freud". EXTREMELY vague with feedback and assignment information (e.g. write about a topic pertaining to clinical psych for a term paper).
Rhonda SEEMS like an angel, but she screwed quite a few at the end. She's the only one in the dpt who is a practicing psychologist and teaches. Her lectures are incredibly interesting, but half the class usually shows up. Her grading scale is HARDER. She is a semi-tough grader. Exams are 20 short answer questions, which is hard to finish.
The class is easy, but the professor is awful unless you're into psychodynamic theory. She is very opinionated and vocal about her opinions. She answers questions that argue with her opinions very poorly, if at all. For a class that should be teaching fundamentals of clinical psychology, I only learned the fundamentals of psychodynamic theory.
I loved Rhonda! lively interesting lectures. Short pretty easy essays due twice a week. Exams are short answer but easy if you read the readings. She knows so much and willingly talks about her personal experience. Open to writing letters of recommendation for grad school. One of my favorite professors by far.
Hmm. Come for the clinical expertise, but be ready to selectively ignore a fair amount of her theoretical dogma. She is defensive in a strange outgoing way, and pretty upfront with her opinions. This class is actually pretty easy, I barely skimmed most of the readings and still pulled an A. She could tell stories for hours - sometimes I zoned out!
Rhonda is an amazing prof. She is engaging and enthusiastic about the subject
I loved this class! It was a lot of work, reading for every class, but it was very interesting, even if you don't agree with all psychodynamic theory. She's very animated and so much fun, the class is run like an open discussion so everyone learns what they're interested in.
She's a nice person - but you have to work EXTREMELY hard for an A. She's VERY VERY picky about grading, and her grading scale sucks. Most professors will assign the AB range from 88-92. Well, in this class an 89.4 is a B.
Class was at 8, and I never missed it. She's that good. She tells great stories about her own experiences as a clinician, and she is so animated and excitable. She obviously loves what she does.
She seems to have a good real world scope of her job. She brought in real world experience and advice, rather than just minutia from being in a lab all day.
she's awsome and animated and a fabulous prof.
Seriously the best psych class I have taken at UW. Even if you don't like Freud, it's a great class to take. She is awesome.
She is not a teacher by trade, but has worked in the field, so she has lots of fun stories. Good lecturer. Take 509!
Really fun professor. Exams were fairly picky though. Overall I really enjoyed her class.
Hilarious and fun! Lecture was great - she is awesome! Tests are tricky - too many unimportant details and stats, but she was a ton of fun!
Best class I've taken at UW. Lectures were fascinating- you don't want to skip. I actually enjoyed taking her tests, as weird as that sounds b/c the class is so interesting. Take it!
Obviously loves what she does and knows what she's doing.
Very peppy and knows her stuff -- just not very organized!
HILARIOUS! She became more organized at our request. Had great stories and was really open to others' questions. She was super enthusiastic and made the class a lot more interesting and fun. Tests had too much stats but not too bad. I loved her!
