About this rating

Raw average: 3.32/5 from 25 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Staley's a little dry when he's in lecture mode, but he's really nice and sweet and funny otherwise. There's a good deal of reading but I thought they were really interesting. I was able to ace the papers just by drawing on the readings, so I wouldn't say taking notes during lecture is strictly necessary. Just sit back and listen.

Lectures are hard to take notes on. Most of reading is dull. 3 essays (1200 words) with tough prompts that require you to cite a lot of course material for a good grade. TONS of reading. I was disappointed with this course and the professor's style of teaching. Hope for good TA. Mostly boring.

There is a lot of reading (1500 plus pages) but you'll learn a lot. Richard is very sharp and will give you a good grade if you try hard. Take this class if your purpose of attending college is to learn something and not just get easy "A's"

If you are taking this course just because you hate labs and want an "easy" science class, don't take it. However,in my experience with Professor Staley, he was easily one of the friendliest, most brilliant professors on campus and his class was extremely eye opening. Didn't realize until recently how much I still apply knowledge from this class
