I took ILS 205 Fall 23 and would highly recommend it. He's a fantastic lecturer- I always felt like I really understood the dense readings after lectures. I had Avramenko himself for discussion and liked it- he really pushed students to think more about the texts and truly listened to everyone's personal thoughts and philosophical ideas.Rate My Professors ↗

Don't take class if you want easy humanities credit. Grade is entirely dependent on TA and A's are hard to come by. I didn't read a single of the 7 assigned readings, all I did was show up to every lecture and take notes. He doesn't post anything so lectures are crucial. Finished with an AB.Rate My Professors ↗

Amazing prof. Definitely recommend to any incoming freshman or even sophomores. Lectures are usually entertaining and hilarious. Classwork is tolerable, lots of reading, but even if you don't do the readings you'll be fine. Great class and great guy overall.Rate My Professors ↗

ILS 205 is very reading heavy, so if you don't have the time to either read the 7+ books, or at least their summaries, I would not recommend. However, if Plato, Aristotle, etc. are people you are interested in, I would absolutely recommend. He is an amazing lecturer. Def my favorite professor I've ever had. Avramenko is an incredible lecturer and person. I almost dropped the course after seeing the reading list, but his lectures made me stick around. Really interesting content, and discussions are worthwhile and engaging. Show up/pay attention, do the readings, and study a little, and you should do just fine in the course.
