CHANG IS THE MAN ; ) He got you covered for anything. The guy cares about YOU and YOUR SUCCESS. Show up, study and pass .... Take him ; )
Dr. Chang has mostly bad reviews only because he is a wake-up call for students toward what the field of genetics is really like. He weeds out the wannabes and the actually motivated. He also prepares you thoroughly for med school. In that sense, he is a gift from the gods. Welcome to college.
Nice and good looking guy
I dont know why people dont like Dr. Chang. Hes a wonderful instructor. Just do well in all his classes, and youll do fine.
cool
Obviously you do need to put some effort on Chang's GEN466 class, but it's a passable course. The only thing I did not like about Chang is that his PowerPoints can be unclear. However, I managed to pass his course with an A- grade. This is because I devoted myself to the material being taught, and managed to attend all classes.
Felt like a grad level class. Made it clear on syllabus not to email with questions. Was rude. Exam weight was unfair. Acts surprised when majority class doesn't understand concepts taught moments prior. PPt's were a mess. I missed 1 class came back to them doing something totally different. Good luck taking this class, you're going to need it.
I have no clue what is it with the commotion about Prof. Chang. He is the best professor you could ask for. Read the text and you will excel. Furthermore, he is a very intelligent, caring individual that wishes for your success in life. An idol for future doctors. I'll be taking what I learned from him to medical school. Cheers to you, Prof. Chang!
Lectures were atrocious; I would leave class feeling as if I didnt learn anything. Mr. Chang also thinks that students should teach themselves, but thats not the case with genetics which is tough and not one of those classes you can just learn from the textbook. Im a 3.5+ gpa student seeking medical school entry but could barley pass this class
This guys name says it all if you cant pronounce it, dont even try his corsework . Absolute god to be this popular on here !
absolutely awful
The best professor will you ever take. Powerpoints are super easy to follow and you can tell just how much he cares about his students succeeding every time you step foot into class. Tests are also super easy, hardly any studying is needed.
One of the most amazing people I have had the pleasure of taking. You can simply slide into his class and he will be happy with your presence. This man is an outstanding individual and you should always choose him. Tests were very easy as well, clear lectures. Powerpoints are very well constructed.
Working with him is very dangerous he doesn't care for student's health, he wants patents to be his so he gives us unknown samples. He makes the students frustrated. He always lies. I didn't learn from him in conclusion, he is a very bad person and he treats the others as his slaves.
Just finished his class today. Never seen so many students fail/drop a class in my life. Has the PPT skills of a middle schooler. Ask him to explain? Will criticize you. Class exam avg 53% next day came in questioning why we are even in university. Acts surprised if we don't fully understand something he taught 10 mins ago. Prepare for hrs of HW.
well all what you need is looking at the rating
What an amazing professor. His powerpoints are very clear, always answer to student questions and cares for his students tremendously. Textbook was hardly used. Plus his exams are pretty easy! Best prof I've ever had :)
Very mean, often talks down to students. His lectures are all over the place, good luck actually learning anything from this guy. Does not care at all about your learning. A real disgrace to UW Madison.
He's an amazing professor! Finished the class with a high 90! I don't understand the hate. I was only reading the textbook. Highly recommended professor :)! He's also super funny!
I am a Junior and have had my fair share of poor professors, but Professor Chang is by far the worst one I have had. Yes, I can deal with a poor lecturer but not a rude one. He constantly criticizes students and expects you to learn all the material on your own. I do not think he cares at all about his students. Its depressing.
The worst professor ever. I will never take any class with this teacher even if they guarantee me an admission for medical school.
The fact Chang thinks his condescending attitude & lack of interest in teaching is acceptable absolutely appalling. He believed that students should teach themselves (which is what you have to do because he surely won’t teach you anything). You can hear the exasperation in the students every time he redundantly said things were obvious or trivial.
Chang lectures with powerpoints that were poorly organized. It was very difficult to follow his train of thought; he often would begin a sentence and trail off without finishing his thoughts/sentence. He was not helpful when students asked questions, he usually would ignore people who raised their hands in class to ask questions. Avoid if you can.
Absolute worst professor I have experienced at Madison. Slides are cluttered and incredibly confusing. He makes this class 10 times harder and more confusing than it has to be by throwing too much information into lectures. AVOID at all costs.
Probably about the meanest professor you'll ever encounter.
Horrible professor! Bad enough that I switched my major to mechanical engineering!
Qiang is an intelligent professor who does great research. But, he's not cut out for teaching. His lectures were confusing, and he wasn't helpful. He ran out of time at the end of the semester, and we had to teach ourselves a 3rd of population genetics and part of quant. genetics that was on the final. Exam averages ~50% w/ multi-choice format.
As already stated, guy has zero interest in his students' success. Teaches at a grad level and is shocked when the class is confused. Part of grade includes clicker questions, which are based off of material learned 2 minutes previously and points are awarded only if you get question right. Chang is just plain awful. Avoid at all costs
Definitely the worst professor I have ever had or even heard about. Exams are about a 50% class average, which is dumb because it gives a horrible distribution. Harsh curve, average is a BC. Loves to talk sauce to the class and makes tests harder than any assigned problems. If you have to take GEN 466 try to find another professor or else good luck
One of the worst professors you'll ever have. Usually I don't like to rip on professors, but this guy deserves it. His PPT's are impossible to follow, he belittles and criticizes the class at every opportunity, constantly reprimands the class for not understanding difficult concepts immediately. Asks trick questions in class. Horrible.
Chang is a terrible professor. He teaches to undergraduates, but expects them to have the prior knowledge of graduate students. Has little interest in individual students other than to criticize them.
Total train wreck. His slides were all over the place and impossible to understand if you looked back at them later. He constantly belittles and criticizes you during class. Specifically said not to email him with questions, because he wouldn't respond. I'd avoid at all costs.
Horrible attitude. Acts surprised when students haven't mastered material taught 5 minutes prior. Material poorly structured, powerpoint slides a mess. Doesn't seem prepared in what it being taught, often pauses and stares at his slides in confusion. Problems on exam much more complicated than what he taught in class. AVOID.
Professor Chang is one of the ONLY professors at this university that I do not respect. He patronized us for the first five minutes of every lecture, slides were VERY confusing, and the first exam was awful. The average was a 55. I am a >3.5 GPA student, and usually I can navigate my way around horrible professors, but genetics is tough, so AVOID!!
Qiang Chang is the worst professor I've ever had. I'm a senior, so I know what a good professor is like! This guy read directly from his myriad and incomprehensible slides; he made it impossible for students to figure out what he wanted them to learn. On top of all that, his English was terrible! He was a total disaster - avoid him at all costs.
NEW professor to the genetics dept, doesn't know how to use pp and are frivolous and meticulous. Tested on material not taught in class as well as pubmed articles relating to his work. HORRIBLE TA's-Completely oblivious. Do homework with others. Final format was more confusing than material. This is graded on a bell curve, ~12 get A's. AVOID!
