Pupa is a wonderful professor! As someone who's never taken physics before I was very worried, however Pupa made the class a breeze. She gives lively demonstrations and clear lectures. There is not much homework for the class and the labs are fun and help you better understand the topics. She genuinely cares about her students and their success.
Pupa is so lovely! I needed a doable class as a non STEM major that would fill the QR-B and physical science requirement and was very nervous going into this class. However, Pupa's lectures were amazing and really made the content engaging and understandable. Her energy during lecture is contagious and her passion and knowledge of physics shines.
Pupa is an amazing professor. She genuinely cares that each student understands the material. As someone who is not sciencey or mathy, I thought she was amazing at teaching physics in a digestible way. The textbook supplements the lectures perfectly and has many practice problems with solutions worked out.
Pupa is the best lecturer I've ever had-- easy to follow, engaging, funny. On top of that, she's accessible outside of class and you can tell she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She's the author of the textbook for 109; the text is as clear and engaging as her lectures! I really can't recommend her and this class enough.
Great professor. Lectures are easy to understand and there will be review sessions before exams.
Great lecturer, made physics so fun and fascinating! Love her!
Her lectures are extremely animated and quirky, if you're into that. Easy QR-B/Physical sciences credit if you need it, just make sure to attend the review and glance over her textbook's practice questions before each exam.
She is the BEST. If you need to take any class in the Physics department, take it with her. Beware of the professors she has to teach with, though. Pupa herself is so great at teaching and helped me, a non-STEM major, understand everything perfectly.
If your looking for the easiest science class ever choose this one. I never opened the textbook once and barely went to lecture, just studied for a few hours before each exam. All concepts were super simple and the test questions were always simpler than practice questions, so we were well prepared. Lab was easy.
Professor Gilbert makes physics fun! Lectures are engaging, and the material is manageable. Definitely use the textbook, labs, and unstuck study for solid prep.
Omg I love Pupa so much. She is one of the best in this school. Her lectures are inspiring and interesting! She cares about her students. And the midterms are super easy. This course is an easy A. Highly recommended.
Pupa makes every lecture so engaging and interesting. I was rarely bored in her class. She is very helpful with questions and she goes over the material in great detail so I felt very confident going into the exams.
One of the only professors I've had that actually has me engaged throughout the entire lecture. As a person who isn't a math/science person, Pupa's lectures were entertaining and helpful where I understood everything right away. The study guides and homework actually help you prepare for the exams which I greatly appreciated.
Pupa was very interesting and went over problems in the lecture. The homework is super helpful for the exams and the study guides she makes. The exams are much easier than the study guide and are like the review session. Lab is mainly for credit which is an easy grade.
Professor Gilbert is an awesome professor! She made the material fun and interesting, and the labs were extremely helpful in understanding the material. The class piqued my interest because I play the saxophone, and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
Both Pupa and Uwe are great professors who truly try to make class interesting, especially for people like me who are not into science and math. I was initially worried that I wouldn't understand the math components of this class, but they were super straight-forward and the hard math that we practiced didn't even show up on the tests.
Uwe and Pupa are both very engaging professors and they're both very knowledgeable and are both tons of fun. The class starts off with Uwe teaching, as he specializes in light and then the second half of the course is taught by Pupa, who specializes in sound.
I highly recommend this class. Lectures are engaging, and the material is easy enough to understand. Pupa is wonderful!!
Pupa is very lovely.
Pupa is a great professor who listens to her students and makes sure that people understand the material. Her book is super helpful, and she records prelectures with demos that students can watch to prepare before the actual lectures. She is enthusiastic about what she teaches, and that makes it fun to learn in her class
Pupa is the true queen of the physics department. She loves what she is teaching and you can really tell she's passionate about the subject. All tests had a 90% average and she curved them if they were lower.
Pupa split taught with Victor Brar. Victor wasn't great but Pupa was amazing! A little eccentric, but she cares a lot about what she's teaching and the students. Covered material thoroughly, and the lectures were a lot of fun. She has a great energy. I found it important to read the book, rather than do the prelecture work. Her Light Unit is 10/10
Pupa is a great person and professor. She is very (very) charismatic and her lectures are fine. She stresses to read the book (which was written by her) but it's not necessary. Easy A if you're decent at math.
Pupa was so amazing and I wish that she taught the whole class by herself. She explained everything thoroughly and was always willing to help. She went above and beyond to make sure we succeeded. Everyone that I talked to from that class always had positive things to say about her. She worked really well with the online setting as well.
Heavily implied that a student didnt actually need accommodations/faking it because the student mistakenly wasnt listed as one of her students that needs accommodation. Got offended when a student asked her to clarify a simple concept, thought purposely tryna waste her time, argued with a classmate that tried to step in to defend the student.
Pupa will greet you with a smile every time you go to her lecture. Her excitement rubs off on anyone who has the pleasure of taking her class. I wouldn't consider myself a "science person", but her excitement for learning and teaching inspired me, and I found myself enjoying her class. She is a great teacher and truly cares for her students.
Pupa is an awesome professor. She is really funny and makes her portion of the class super interesting. She's very passionate about what she's teaching and it shows in her lectures. If you ask questions, she's usually happy to answer them. Definitely take this course if you're looking for physical science credits and a good time.
She's a great teacher, and even though I hated the subject matter, she made it tolerable. She has a really cool background and she's relatively funny. As someone who hates math and science, the first part of this course was almost enjoyable.
Absolutely love Professor Gilbert! Although the material was not terribly difficult, I showed up to lecture twice a week in order to her hear entertaining and engaging demonstrations. She's always looking to answer questions (however dumb they may be) and is never seen without a huge smile. Definitely would take a course with her again!
If you do not like physics as much, Pupa will teach you to love physics and knows how to explain things really well for people who are not strong in STEM areas. I highly suggest this class especially for people who are trying to fulfill general studies credits!
One of the best I've ever had
Pupa is one of the very best professors around. She makes her students exctied to learn and is dedicated to making sure everyone is understanding what they need to be. She is an absolute delight and makes learning physics an interactive and exciting experience.
I was pretty nervous about taking a physics class, but Dr. Gilbert made it super fun! The light portion of Physics 109 was really interesting and informative. The lectures aren't mandatory, but the labs are! There are some concepts that definitely didn't fully sink in until I did the lab, so make sure you go to them!
Pupa is an amazing professor! She is so passionate about what she teaches which makes all her lectures interesting and engaging! I am by no means a physics or science person but she was able to teach the material in way that made it easy to understand. She is also very open and welcoming to people asking questions.
I looked forward to attending Pupas lectures every week. She is one of the few professors I really enjoyed listening to because she was able to make physics an interesting topic. I would highly suggest taking this course!
Attendance is mandatory when turning in a lab. However if you skip, it can be hard to catch up (especially for non physics people like me). Pupa makes class really interesting and clear so might as well go! She encourages participation and when you do, she will remember your name for the rest of the year. Guaranteed.
Pupa was a wonderful professor. Physics is not my favorite subject but she made the material interesting because she was engaging and energetic. She was open to all questions and responded in a helpful and understanding way. Would recommend!
Pupa was a phenomenal professor to have at the start of this course. Very organized and great at elaborating when a student is confused. Highly recommend to non physics majors who need a physical science filled!
I took this class as a non-science student needing physical science credit and Pupa was able make the class very interesting and easy to follow. I appreciated her passion for what she was teaching and great attitude in class and towards the students every single day.
She teaches so well and explains everything clearly. As a student who hates physics, if she weren't teaching this class I'd be skipping every day.
Pupa is an amazing professor with great lectures. Cares about students grasping what she is teaching. Wrote the textbook that perfectly aligns with class material so it is easy to keep up with. Interesting course taught by a great professor.
I loved Professor Gilbert for the first half of Physics in the arts!! She is funny, knowledgable, and makes lecture interesting. It is easy to do well in her portion of the class if you pay attention and also read the book. The exams are basically straight from the homework/practice exam. Totally would recommend, she is awesome!
Pupa has the rare ability to connect with her students. She genuinely loves answering questions, and shell give you an endearing Brava! if she particularly likes your question. You will have no problems with Pupas half of the course if you put in a little effort. The textbook is not necessary but very helpful for homework.
She is super sweet and passionate about light/color. I found her section of the course to be much easier than Baha's. She loves to answer questions, so don't be afraid to speak up.
Pupa is very easy to understand and explained the concepts well. Exams are basically on the weekly homework, so if you understand that you'll be fine. TA office hours are super helpful to do the homework, so go!! 3 exams, weekly homework worksheets, weekly labs (not hard). Lec isn't mandatory, but its very helpful!
Pupa is a really good teacher and walks through concepts clearly. She wrote the book so she tells you to read it but you'll only have to use it as a reference for homework sometimes. The second half of the class is taught by a more difficult professor, but do the labs and homework and you should have an easy time getting a good grade.
I HATE physics, but I needed this credit and heard the class wasn't too bad. The course is split into 2 lecturers, and Pupa was the 2nd. She was absolutely amazing- my grades got so much better when she started teaching, and it's clear how passionate she is about her content. Most of her lectures were actually really cool and I enjoyed having her!
Pupa was a great lecturer. She is super passionate about color so she explains everything in detail. There are two teachers for Physics 109 and I did the best one her test. Wish she could have taught the other sections of the class too.
Pupa is an amazing lecturer. She's funny and interesting and she always gives clear examples of the kind of work she expects students to do. This isn't one of those classes where the professor teaches you a simple concept and then gives you a problem 100x more complex on the exam - She's straight-forward and wants her students to understand.
Pupa truly cares about her students which is what makes her such a fantastic and successful teacher. I hate physics, but Pupa made this class bearable. I would recommend this class just to have Pupa a professor.
Pupa made lecture fun and made you be able to understand what you were learning in a hands-on way. 10/10 would recommend!
Really interesting and useful course! And Pupa is the best professor I have ever met!
She is awesome. Nothing can replace that mention.
Pupa was wicked smart and a great teacher. You could really tell that she cared about her students' success!
When she's giving lectures and discussing new topics, she goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands, and answers questions with simplicity in order for the students to learn new material more effectively.
Great Professor. Lecturing with clear order and good examples. Enthusiastic and patient with course materials. In class demos are so much fun, and exams are not hard if you understand those examples she went through in class and read the textbook.
I loved Pupa! I'm not a science kind of person, but she managed to make the lectures accessible and interesting. She is super clear in her explanations and provides a lot of helpful examples. She is extremely knowledgable, and really adorable! I would highly recommend her, especially to people who are not overly comfortable with science.
Pupa is a very good, kind and caring professor. She said this course will have no curve at the first place and I did very bad on final exam. I tried to email her about my grade and she finally gave the curve to this class. All in all, I will definitely choose her as my professor if in future I have the chance.
As a student who is miserable at math, and has never liked science classes, I found Pupa's lectures to be not only tolerable but enjoyable. Her presentation is engaging and accessible, and she does everything in her power to make sure students are keeping up. Her passion for the subject and her care for students are evident in every interaction.
Throughout my college experience, there have been many professors who have been good. Few have been excellent, and Pupa Gilbert was one the few. What makes Pupa stand out is her heart for teaching. She truly loves what she teaches and wants her students to succeed. Her lectures were clear and her use of demos helped engage the class.
Pupa was one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is really passionate about her work and it kind of inspires you to be passionate about it too. She , somehow, made physics fun which I didn't think was possible. Besides being an amazing teacher she cared about her students and our interests. Even in a lecture hall. She's just an amazing woman.
She is very knowledgeable but also very bright and inviting. Through demonstrations and her own passion for the content, she made lectures interesting and learning easy. Physics is not my strength by a long shot but I still was able to be motivated and do well in the class largely thanks to Pupa.
Pupa was a wonderful instructor! She puts the needs of her students first and is thorough in her lectures. She tries to bring humor into her lectures to keep students engaged, which helped me to better remember the content. She was one of the best professors I had my freshman year of college.
She is a pretty good professor.
easyA if u attend the lecture on time
Pupa was an amazing professor for such a difficult course. I had a lot of trouble with the class before she taught, but as soon as she did I understood the material a lot better and performed much better on tests. She genuinely cares for her students and make sure everyone is accommodated correctly.
She always gives very organized notes, be sure to take notes carefully. if you can do the homework and go to the review session then you will be alright with this course.
Pupa is a very passionate educator. Her passion for physics, the world around her, and her students is obvious. She understands that not everyone is a physics major, and uses this to her advantage--making the class about exploring and getting excited about the world and our place in it.
She thoroughly explains things
She has energetic and engaging lectures, clear expectations, and fair exams. It's evident that she cares about her students!
Professor Pupa is wonderful, you can definitely learn a lot from the class and also you will feel comfortable when you're in the class.
Pupa was an awesome Physics professor! She was always in a good mood, she was funny, but was very knowledgeable in all of the material, and was always helpful when asked questions. I would highly recommend her for a professor!!
Was engaging for a large lecture class and gave clear expectations. Better than many intro level courses.
She is really enthusiastic and has passion for what she teaches. She is good at encouraging students. And the tests are not cumulative and this class is easy to get an A.
Very passionate about the course material, and does a great job of keeping you engaged
Pupa was easy to understand and she gave lots of examples in class that helped on tests. Very nice and funny in lectures.
She is very helpful and clear in her lectures. I can tell she truly cares about her students' learning and that she will do anything to help us do well. I loved going to her lectures because she obviously loves what she does, which is a refreshing thing to experience. I learned a lot during this class and I was very glad I took it.
Oh-kaaay!!!
She is a great professor who teaches with enthusiasm. I love the way she presents information to her students. I felt I learnt a lot from her and had a great fun learning from her. I would definitely take her class again if I am given a second chance.
Great lecturer. Everything very clear and helped so much for the exams. I pretty much didn't need to read the book because she explains things so well, including going over example problems.
This professor is amazing and considerable. Everyone who wants to earn credits in Phys for the requirement of general education should take her course! Trust me! She won't let you down!!!!!
Pupa seems like I would be BFF's with her out of the classroom--she is super sweet, an artist, and has great energy. Her accent is so fun. No idea where her accent is from tho-- it's still the only thing unclear from the class--but ya gotta love a good mystery. I think shes a pretty good teacher, I pulled off a B in the class and didnt study much.
PUPA is such a funny woman! I am not a fan of physics, but I took the class for the breadth credit. She made this class far more interesting than I thought it would be. She co-teaches this class with another professor, taking over for the 2nd half of the semester. Both professors are very engaging, but PUPA was my favorite. Her accent is adorable!
Pupa is such an amazing professor, and incredibly passionate about her work. I took this class for credit, not really interested in the material, but she made it a lot better. It's clear that she loves her work, and wants her students to succeed. She is also extremely humble- look her up on Wikipedia! She never mentioned any of that stuff.
Rely on the TAs and go to office hours if you want to succeed. Lectures were long and unhelpful. Non of the powerpoints were put online so if you miss anything then you need to have a friend. HAVE TO DO HOMEWORK AND GO TO EVERY LAB TO PASS
She is a great prof and gives great lectures. Always there to help.
I am definitely not a physics person, but attend class and read book chapters and you will be fine. Pupa is an amazing professor and makes concepts very easy to understand and starts out each class period with a brief review. Lectures actually went by pretty fast with her - this is a great class to take to fulfill physical science.
Very clear explanations, good book
The professor teaches not very clearly but the exam is very easy. If you do the homework and do the lab carefully, you will get a good grade.
Pupa was a joy to work with! Always looking for good questions from students and good feedback.
The professor is great!!! Her class is interesting. You'll enjoy the class! Also, it's not hard to get an A for the class! Definitely a great choice!
Easy class if you go to lab and do your homework. Easy A/AB on the exams and you don't need to put too much effort into it. Professor does a great job on explaining the concepts in class. Alex Loving is one of the best TAs I had , and he tried to explain everything clearly in the lab and always answer your questions with patience.
I am not a physics person, but Pupa made this physics course actually interesting. Her passion for the course content makes it easy to learn and lectures worth-while to attend. Highly recommend this professor! If you don't like science or math this class is still interesting. If you go to lab and do the homework, you will get a good grade.
Energetic professor!!
I think that Physics is so hard for me in general, that I feel like even the basic stuff is complicated for me. I sort of have to be walk through everything. I think she did the best she good though.
Pupa was the nicest and clearest explaining professor I've had my freshmen year. She explains the material and always wants you to ask questions. Physics is a naturally difficult class, but as long as you go to the lab and do the weekly homework, you should be good.
she's cool, very energetic and obviously passionate about her field of study which helped me to be more interested in the course materials even though i hate science.
The professor demonstrates great enthusiasm and the she makes the lectures engaging.
Really easy to understand, and exams are heavily based on homework problems.
Love the class
