One of the best professors in psych department. One of my favorite courses in psych department (about criminal psych). Clear grading. Extra credits. Three easy non-cumulative exams (All multiple choice). Would definitely recommend it.
Professor Coffey is one of the best Psychology teachers at UW-Madison. I had her for Psych 601: Issues with Prisoner Reentry and Psych 526: Criminal Minds. If you have a chance to take these classes, do it! The lectures are extremely interesting and the exams are fair if you study a bit and pay attention in lecture.
At the start, the workload can be daunting, but it's incredibly manageable and Patti is a great professor
Professor Coffey is incredibly kind, pure, and generous. For a four-credit class, it's SO doable. The readings are supplemental (except two books) and enhance learning. There are 6 FAIR exams, everything is covered in lecture, and a short paper. HUGE extra credit opportunity. 10/10 recommend--I've never taken a psych class that was so rewarding.
I loved Prof. Coffey's lectures, the exams tested class material but we're not very difficult, and there is an (easy) extra credit assignment which is worth half of the points of an exam! I thought Prof. Coffey's outlook on the subject was incredible, and she covered some very difficult content in an empathetic and treatment focused way :)
Prof. Coffey is the best!!! By far, one of my favorite professors at UW. She's super knowledgeable about criminal psych and is a great lecturer. Exams are fair and are based on lecture and discussion material. Very straightforward if you go to class and pay attention. Highly HIGHLY recommend.
She offers extra credit however the tests always seemed more difficult than they should've been. Psychology is about memorization so work on knowing the terms she goes over and you'll have a better time than most.
Professor Coffey is amazing! She records her lectures and only tests on what she covers in lecture, so there is no need to read the assigned chapters. There are quizzes with unlimited attempts and 1-2 sentences due weekly. She offers extra credit and truly wants her students to succeed! Study for the 4 exams (no final) and you'll do great!
Dr. Coffey is an excellent professor, who draws on her decades of experience in the forensic psychology field to teach an outstanding, inspirational course on criminal psychology. Dr. Coffey not only teaches you about the topics required for the exam but she infuses them with her own stories and experiences. I'd highly recommend any of her courses.
Too many long boring lectures, you'll learn more from the textbook she provides and not understanding with COVID.
I took criminal minds with Patti which I found to be super fun and interesting, so I decided to sign up for her capstone course (Issues in Prisoner Reentry). However this class was horrible. There was no clear grading criteria for our project and gave out conflicting information. Even though I managed to get an A, I was lost all semester
Prof Coffey is really sweet and though her recorded lectures are long, it was interesting content. Get ready to have things due in waves - like a take home exam, a canvas exam, a quiz, and probably a paper due all in the same week. But her exams are fair and she is really accommodating and just watch the lectures and take good notes.
Professor Coffey did a really good job of transitioning to online learning. Although some of her lectures were extremely long, that's expected with such an informational subject. Each week she gave a small quiz and short essay assignment, and we had to complete pre-exam essays. I definitely recommend taking her for an intro to Psych class.
I've taken criminal minds and now prisoner reentry with Patti. Criminal minds was a great class, however prisoner reentry is so disorganized and she was very contradictory in expectations for the course. Kept telling us to look at the syllabus but she made up things that weren't in there throughout the semester.
Professor Coffey did a great job transitioning to online learning! She really cares about her students and has a vast knowledge of psychology.
Material itself if interesting - prob one of my favorite classes at UW! Dr. Coffey is also a great professor! Readings are helpful to better understand the material. Attendance counts in discussions and lectures. Expect 3 multiple choice exams (no final), books to read, weekly readings and a big paper. If you keep up, you'll be fine!
