I absolutely loved Professor Rumble. He was so passionate and knowledgeable about the material, you can tell he really cares. Some of his lectures can be a bit slow at times, but his personality shines through. I for one was so influenced through his lectures, I felt like I wanted to switch my major and inspire/change the world through film lol.
Best professor I've had at UW; smart, thoughtful, and funny guy. The lectures are long but always engaging - I learned about a whole culture of cinema I would never have gotten into otherwise. Lots of reading if you want to be prepared for the essays (blue book midterm and final), but otherwise not hard - just go to class and watch the movies.
Professor Rumble made literary analysis easy. If you read the books (even brief skimming to get the key details), he takes it from there and provides clear and detailed analysis that you can use in your 3 in-class essays which make up the bulk of your grade. He also has super funny, dry humor which made the class quite enjoyable. A real gem.
I really enjoyed learning about Italian film with Dr. Rumble! He is super passionate and outgoing which makes the class even better. Would definitely recommend.
One of the most caring and passionate professors. He clearly loves what he teaches, which makes a big difference. The books we read and movies we watched were interesting, even if you aren't big into literature. There are 3-4 essay exams where you get to select a prompt from options given. Definitely recommend him for a literature professor!
His online lectures are a bit long, and he takes awhile to analyze the books. He likes to go on tangents about Italian history, but when he gets to the analyses, make sure you write them down for the exams. There are few exams. You choose one of the few prompts and write about the books. I'm a CS major, and I got high 90s on all of them.
This class was on Italian American film. Hands down the best class I've taken in my 4 years here, with the best professor in the school. The content is so interesting and fun and Professor Rumble is incredibly passionate about it. He sometimes goes off on tangents, but even those are always interesting. Bawled my eyes out on the last day of class.
One of the best professors I have ever had. I truly learned so much from this class. While it is lecture heavy, Professor Rumble is so passionate about Italian film that his lectures are fascinating. I would 100% recommend taking his classes. The textbook wasn't completely necessary, but will definitely help you do well.
As a neurobio major, I was a little worried going into an intermediate literature class. However, this class is super interesting and isn't too hard to get an A in. Go to the lecture. Take notes. Write about one of the main themes in the books on the in-class essay and you'll do just fine. Dr. Rumble is super awesome!
I love Patrick Rumble. The class is super easy, as long as you pay attention in class, you'll be able to get a good grade on the exams. 1 essay, but pretty simple and open to whatever topic you want to cover. He gets off topic all the time (ask him about Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini's "whirlwind affair") and it's super amusing.
says attendance is mandatory but I rarely attended class, still got an AB. Don't need your textbook nor watch the movies really because he explains them all in lecture. He talks the whole time but he will throw in a joke or two. Three assignments, midterm, a paper and a final. He's a pretty easy grader. Gives you choices of questions on exams.
Rumble is the man. I'm a neurobio major and took this class because I heard it was an easy A for a lit class- 100% true. Didn't read any of the books. Went to all lectures- he analyzes all books in lecture. He even gave us page numbers for hints for the exams. Great guy! Only 3 essay exams (easy), no final
Great professor, really entertaining guy, lectures are sometimes dull but he has a great sense of humor and the class is easy.
Prof. Rumble goes really deep into the books and tells you the straight up answers for the novels he wants you to read. Just write down notes from the themes and you'll do great! It's also a good idea to meet with him in office hours, he enjoys helping people and will like you more.
Professor Rumble is the coolest guy out there and everyone should take his class for an easy grade as long as you connect with him well. Wonderful family and always keeping us interested in every Italian film.
He was a great professor and really knew a lot about what he was teaching. Lectures consist of him talking which can be boring, but just take notes about the themes of the novel and you will to great. Three essays make up your grade and they are on very broad topics. Got an A in the class easily. Take the class if you can!!
Hardly ever went to class, did not read any of the required novels, and just took notes about the details of the books that he gave us in class. I received an AB in the class putting in very minimal work.
Very easy. His lectures are fairly entertaining, he's got a good sense of humor.
Nice Prof. He does a good job getting us interested in the material. He may go a bit overboard with his "clarifications" of the material but that is really okay (i.e. he is a bit on the flamboyant side). I would recommend his class.
Prof. Rumble is easily one of the best teachers at UW. He has a deep understanding of everything he teaches and conveys it in terms that are comprehensible. TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. Read the books, go to class. You don't want to miss out on his lectures: they're awesome. He looks really good in blue/grey tones
I love him and his family. They rock!
Rumble is gangsta ass dude. He cracked one joke in classthis semester telling a student to "ask his sister about last night." In all seriousness hes one of the only professors here who I felt really levels with students. Ive found him really easy to talk to. His lectures are funny and the movies are good. take dis class.
Professor Rumble = hilarious. I think Im the only one that laughs at his jokes. Great teacher but lectures can be boring at times. Dont even need to read the novels...just take notes from lectures and youll do well on the exams. I read one novel the whole semester and still got an A/B.
I currently have Rumble for Mod. Italian Lit. I LOVE this class! He's hilarious and keeps things very interesting. Of course, its nice that the books are tolerable and to get an A you really only need to go to class because he explains everything! You don't really need to read!
rumble is great- fun classes, great books and keeps things interesting. Great class and great teacher
i love rumble!!!!!!!!
I am a senior, and Rumble is the only professor worth talking about. Lit in trans of Italy was the best class I've ever taken and the tests were very easy and lectures were even fun sometimes. So he might be late for some lectures. Who cares? That means less material you'll have to write down. He's a cool guy with awesome shoes.
This was the first semsester he had a protege of his grade our essay tests, and they were graded somewhat hard. Just go to lecture and read the novels and you'll be fine.
Clearly did not want to be teaching this course. Showed up late for lectures often and sometimes cancelled class without notice. Exams were easy.
