This guy kind of reminds me of Marc Renault without as much of a hatred for students. Chill enough guy and the class was super interesting.

He's definitely better than his current rating suggests. You can tell he really cares about his students understanding the material. In his lectures, he's always asking questions(to the students) or encouraging students to ask their own. It's clear he knows the topic very well, which only helps the lecture more.

Paris lectures are very boring, but filled with information so if you pay attention you will do well in the class. He also records lectures which I really appreciated. Projects and exams make up the grade. Grading was quite generous and transparent. Final project B+ tree and final exam was a nightmare but everything else until then was easy

Nice professor, explains everything in lectures. Don't fall behind. B+ tree was a nightmare.

Paris is mediocre at best. Generic CS professor here at UW, nothing special at all. Take the course with him if you need the credit and absolutely have to. Otherwise theres absolutely no reason to go out of your way to take the class with him. Gave him a 2 instead of 1 because he records his lectures.

I think the projects were a bit disorganized at times, but I also think Paris is a great guy and genuinely cares about his students. CS 564 will be hard if you don't show up to class, so make sure you go.

Awesome professor! lectures are clear and concise. If you pay attention in his class you will understand everything and an A grade is guaranteed. He records lectures, and that comes in handy.

I thought Professor was really willing to help out his students outside of lecture time and was open to questions. His lecture may have been a bit dry, but overall the projects and exams were very fair. Seems like he truly cares about the success of his students.

Listening to his dry lectures is nothing better than reading the textbook... Exams and projects push you to study, but overall the class was not enjoyable at all

Extremely rude to students. Projects are stolen from other schools and have little to no guidance. Blamed student for cheating on the final without having any evidence and dropped their grades from A's to B/C's or lower. He answers questions poorly and clearly does not care about his students. The class isn't terribly hard but be aware.

terrible professor. reads off of slides and just replies to every question with 'good question' and chooses not to answer them. Would not recommend

Every time I got a chance to talk with Prof Koutris he was very courteous and confident I would succeed in his course, even when I was not. His lectures have some valuable material, and he's really concerned about his students' success in understanding the work they do.

Yep, after reading the rating history, he did improve a lot for the previous semester. His slides are clear and he gave good examples. He made the course easier to understand. Taking his CS784 this semester.

Just one quick glance at his rating history makes it apparent that he has improved a lot since his first semester (currently way better than overall rating). He really cares about students understanding, the projects (except for the first one for some reason) are very manageable and the exams fair with quite similar past exams provided.

He is very willing to improve his teaching skill and he is trying his best to make lectures as easy as you can understand them. I think he can be one of the best teachers in CS department finally.

The course went at a fast pace and the programming assignments required a lot of work. Paris is a decent teacher and cares about the class. He also did a good job at explaining some highly theoretical concepts.

Paris's area of expertise is Database Theory and boy is he good at that. For people interested in theoretical foundations for databases, this is the guy and class to take. He teaches the concepts amazingly well, his examples are really good and the lecture notes highly readable. You need to know probability and theory a bit though. He's hot ;-)

This was his first semester teaching and honestly I think he deserves a bit more credit than he's getting. He seems like a great guy and everything but this was obviously his first time teaching. If he's teaching something more theoretical then I would consider taking his class again.

Worst professor I've had in my 4.5 years at this school. Taught the simple basics in class, but the homeworks, projects, and exams are 10x harder and contain things not even taught in lecture. Lecture slides are mistake filled and not very clear. Projects take a LOT of time, the project took more than 55 hours to do and only got 2 week to work on

The homeworks and class examples did not in any way reflect the difficulty of the exam nor the answers that would be expected. Lectures were long and boring and his slides and explanations during lecture were poor. Questions often confused him. Assignment and due dates for projects were very poorly considered most the time.

First exam had no partial credit. Homework has hardly partial credit. If you suck at proofs or programming avoid this class and take something else. Anything else. Take statistics, take calculus, take gender and women studies 101, anything but this. Literally could not stand this class.

Definitely the worst offering of CS 564 thus far. Way too theoretical with bad explanations and high expectations. Professor seems at least somewhat polite which is good, and he's also brand new out of school, so probably deserves a break. For at least a semester or two, I highly recommend avoiding the course.

Paris is the guy that you wanna try your best to avoid. If this class was not curved then most of class have failed their first exam (avg 45/100). A lot of classmates complain about the project being too hard and not given enough time to complete, and some ppl even rage quit, but he simply ignores them. Well, keep calm and get rekt.
