Most of my gripes are with the course and its format rather than the professor. However, I personally didn't have an positive idea of her, partly because she rightfully so was upset with many in the class since most students (myself included) were looking for an easy ethnic studies + comm b requirement. Very unbiased perspective of material taught.

Coursework does not prepare for the final exam. Very little prep work given for a class with only one final exam. Class is easy but difficult final not reflective of format of questions in class or for homework. If you don't mind a difficult final compared to the semester then take this class.

Awful professor. Final Exam she does not prepare you for. Class is too easy throughout the semester for a much higher difficulty final exam with nothing but a vague packet for terms and topics. Exam format is poor and clear she doesn't know how to write nor conduct exams.

There were a lot of long readings every week, but the lectures were easy going with an assignment due at the end. She was very passionate and nice. Assignments were sometimes grades strictly but overall fair. Final exam was challenging and required a lot of studying for, but overall a good teacher.

Not exactly what I was expecting when I entered into this course, but interesting nonetheless. Prof. Potter is very knowledgeable in the topics that she teaches. Most of the coursework is online, but it follows pretty much the same routine every week, so its easy to get used to once you get into a groove.

Great professor and very interesting class, I learned a lot. Highly reccomend

Awesome professor, cares about the content and course. Lectures can be long but can space out if needed, no call outs.

I would not take this course again, spending three whole days reviewing for a gen-ed final does not worth it.

Potter can be a bit dry at times and the course is very reading heavy. Exams are take home but will take you a while to complete. Discussion is fine, just a set of questions the TA has and is basically a Q&A. Not exactly what I expected as far as course material went, but I can't say I suffered through this class.

You have to be in class (1 50 minute per week) to do the assignment. Online quiz each week "requires" tons of readings on Canvas but most answers can be found using command F. Interesting topics that I personally never would've expected to take a class about. Couldn't recommend more.

Professor Potter is passionate about the subject, and course materials are GENUINELY fascinating. However, this class is heavy on readings (for me, they were interesting enough to be manageable.) Final is take-home -- handwritten short essays. Tedious, not hard. Weekly quizzes are also easy, and only one (short!) lecture a week. I learned a lot!

I enjoyed this course with Professor Potter. The class was designed so students will do well. There were weekly 10-question quizzes based on the prework readings and videos. These quizzes were super manageable and prepared students for class. In class, we also have graded assignments that we worked on with our group.

This was a really fun class. There is a lot of reading involved, but everything is very straight forward. Professor Potter made this class really enjoyable and I would definitely take her classes again. You can also take this class for comm B credit.

Prof Potter is clearly an expert. Lectures had interesting material but could become a bit dry at times. The class is good overall except for the midterm and final. They are take home writing exams that take forever to complete well. The final has 8 short essay questions which require multiple sources each but would still recommend if interested.

Professor Potter gives very interesting lectures. She is very engaged with the material she teaches and is very knowledgeable. However, there are many more readings than expected. I spent hours every week watching long films and reading 20+ page articles. The midterms were take-home essays, but they were graded harshly with little feedback.

She teaches with passion and genuinely cares about what she teaches, cant be said for most professors. Grading varies by TA but I would take her again.

The class its self was not bad, the TA was amazing and professor potter was ok no complainants until the final. She decided because it was a take home final it had to take the amount of time you would study too. It took me 14 hours. It also had to be hand written so 5 hours was just copying what I typed. Absolutely waste of time. Very dumb. Dislike

The class had an inverted schedule (you do all the work before class). Beware, the work can get tedious and seem like busy work, but if you do it, the quizzes are super easy. Lectures were semi-interesting; I didn't pay attention in some of them and did fine. She says the word "um" a lot, so that does get annoying.

The 272 class run by Potter is interesting. It's lecture heavy (with 3 different lecturers, including her) with a fair bit of reading. But her exams are reasonable and the workload (short writing assignments throughout the semester, along with a final paper) is definitely manageable Would recommend.

Class structure is a little confusing because it's her and two other lecturers. Material can be a bit dry at times, and there is A LOT of reading.

The class is super easy. I learned a ton and the course was super organized and easy to follow. The final exam was the only part that was pretty time consuming.

Super easy class, got a 99%. If you take the Comm B portion, there will be about 3 essays, including a 6 page research paper, but you have lots of time to do it. Without comm B the class is very, very easy.

This was a hybrid of in class and online work. The online work was super easy and interesting, but the in class portion was endlessly frustrating. If you get stuck with a bad discussion group, you're screwed. Discussion participation is required and was generally just pretty awful. Professor Potter is helpful and great, though.

Great professor and interesting class. I would definitely recommend taking this class!

I took Potter's class on Berlin culture. It was scheduled to meet twice a week for an hour and 15 minute lecture, but most weeks we only meet once. All the work is done outside of class - reading the text, looking at films/powerpoints. Class is used to reinforce the main ideas of what we read prior to class, and is mostly discussion.

This course utilized the flipped classroom technique. One 50 minute lecture mostly dedicated to group activity and submitting a response to a prompt. A slide deck and (usually) doable reading assignments to complete before each lecture. Exam 1 average was 97% and was mostly easy essay Qs. Final was take home but very long. Easy ethnic studies.

Easy ethnic studies. TAKE IT WITH FRIENDS. Can take it for Comm B if needed. Content is interesting, but Prof. Potter can move a little slowly. Also, when you tell people you're taking Yiddish, they automatically think you're 300 times cooler.

This is an easy ethnic studies credit. Prof. Potter is boring boring boring. She doesn't have lecture slides so taking notes is hard. Songs are fun to listen to. Tests are fine if you learn the terms and the basic concepts. The class is easy but going to lecture is a chore.

Prof. Potter is a good professor. Exams are totally doable, the assignments are super easy, and lecture is helpful. Take this class for an easy ethnic studies!!!
