This professor does not answer any emails and is a difficult grader.
VERY slow grader and poor communicator, doesn't respond to emails or the course discussion tab. Weekly materials were often posted late, especially toward the end of the semester. The syllabus listed a final paper due the last day of class, but she didn't post the prompt until Monday evening, making it due the next day and ignoring student concerns
The class was an easy A but just an overall annoying course. She never responds to any emails and takes points off of assignments even though she explains the assignment for 5 minutes before class ends and that's it. Attendance is mandatory but she just talks the entire time. I did not get any grades back until the week before the semester ended.
she was never nitpicky and was not an understanding professor, get everything done because she does not play around
Grading takes forever. Daily in-class assignments that account for about 30% of your grade. No exams, but there are projects and reflections for midterms. Plus one group project where you will probably end up doing all the work. The work isn't hard, just annoying.
Never posts assignments in a timely manner. Turning work in is always a bother as you need to submit in padlet and on canvas. Doesn't grade things accordingly, takes forever to grade. Bad communication overall.
Grading takes forever and class feels like a waste of time. It is online so good luck ever getting an email response back if you need it. Was a GPA booster but busy work to the max.
Bad communication, many things are unclear and grading takes FOREVER. Easy A but brutal to sit through. She also won't allow students to do work early as she posts papers a day or two before they're due. Not a fan of either class taken with her. Re-uses all her resources and has the same assignments across all of her classes.
The class is very tedious and the syllabus is confusing since most of the assignments have changing or no due dates. She brings up assignments in class and topics as we know what she is talking about but most of us were constantly confused about the class. It is an easy A if you go to class and participate when you can
Did not grade assignments or respond to emails. This was an online course I did not have another way to reach her because she did not have office hours
Sometimes instructions weren't clear. There are a lot of group discussions in the class but I don't think it's too bad. There are a couple papers and a group project but I think it's doable. Would recommend taking her classes in person because they are more manageable as her online courses look like it required a lot more work compared to in person
Professor Levchenko gave interesting and informative lectures. A lot of work is assigned but I never opened my textbook and still ended with over 100% in the course. Assignments don't take long, she just wants to see an effort. I truly enjoyed the course. Overall, I think she would be a better professor in person, but I would still recommend her.
Since transitioning to online learning, Polina has only made taking her courses even harder. There are too many assignments to even catch up. Her expectations for these assignments are not always clear and her deadlines are sometimes hard to meet. For example, she posted an assignment and expected students to finish within a day.
Some of the other reviewers mentioned there was a lot of reading - I disagree. There was some, but not usually more than 1 hour worth each week for an accelerated summer class. Her class is very doable - but you have to DO the work. Compared to other classes the work she assigns is relevant and not difficult, but requires some effort. Not hard.
Polina is a nice person, but her ability to teach as a professor is mediocre at best. Given that we transitioned to online courses half way through the semester, she instituted MORE group work. Her feedback is minimal and largely unhelpful and I find that she lacks the ability to make useful changes to her courses from one semester to the next.
Polina is kind of awful. Provided a syllabus with most assignment details and due dates TBD, then would magically bring them up as if we knew what she was talking about a week before they were due. Took attendance, but then didn't allow any lecture material to be used on the exams. Once we went online, she started giving us MORE group work.
Dr. Levchenko genuinely cares about her students and wants to see students succeed. She makes herself readily available to students and has given extensions on assignments on a few occasions. She assigned a lot of readings, but primarily is focused on ensuring that students demonstrate that they've thought about the material in-depth.
