437, not 436. Lectures are all handwritten and over two years old, confusing and awkward. I just took the first exam and feel confident on about 15%, and all 6 of the rest of us in the class feel the same way. Will answer questions enthusiastically. Really don't take 437 as I don't see any applications, barely can understand any of the material.
Honestly, I don't really know what happened in this class. Dr Milenkovic is very nice but a confusing professor. He would read off his slides and explain it but without examples it was confusing. The final project is confusing but he will walk you through it if you go to office hours. He is always more than willing to help.
Professor is a nice person. Homeworks and exams are just fine.. But the final project is really a disturbing case. I cannot even understand what the questions mean, and the experiments that should be conducted on TF32J (a java program) is also hard, the software itself is not hard but it is hard to get what the project wants us to do.
I am noticing a lot of people are talking down about the way he teaches ECE 376 which has been using flipped classroom format for sometime now and is not structed in a way that Paul gets to choose so no sense in complaining about that. In terms of ECE 436, he posts all notes and records all lectures. Will take time to answer any and all questions.
Professor Milenkovic is a really good person. He is willing to answer any of your questions, and he is accessible by Email all the time. He also grades generously. But his lectures are a bit dry, and the lecture notes are not well organized. However, there is a textbook to follow, so it is not a big problem to me.
Don't know about the ECE376 class but his ECE436 and 437 classes are great. The class notes are handwritten and the textbook is a bit old, but the class comes with projects based on a handy Java DSP program developed by him. Prof. Milenkovic is an inspiring professor without being demanding at all. These many bad reviews don't seem fair to me.
Paul cares about helping his students in lab but his help can be almost useless sometimes during his awkward behavior. One lecture a week means learning most of the material on your own or with your lab group (you'll make friends quickly since the Moodle assignments are long/tedious) and exams are weirdly formatted. Overall not great
Not good in any way shape or form
One of the weirdest people I have ever met, he has good intentions but they are completely misguided. If you can read his handwriting and are willing to read the book you should be okay in this class. Make sure the first few days of lab to get to know people around you so you do well. The practice exams are representative of what is on the exam.
Lectures are the most useless lectures I've ever had. I went the first two weeks and skipped the rest because they didn't help at all. The labs are good help because the TA's can help you with the material. Milenkovic gets off topic too easily and has very poor organization.
Honestly, probably did too much LCD at one point. Labs are useful to learn material, he puts up a sheet with similar problems on the board while you work and wanders around answering questions. Literally the weirdest dude ever. Lecture is useless, my roommate never went and got an A, homework is mostly for practice but still graded.
Yikes. The lectures, labs, and homework were all extremely disconnected from each other. We had to teach ourselves the material. He was very off putting and unapproachable. The labs are incredibly frustrating considering how much of the final grade they are. Milenkovic is so strange and completely unapproachable.
He was the worst professor I have had. He does not know how to explain concepts efficiently 1 on 1 or in lecture. His examples in class were often incorrectly calculated, which confuses the class. He will call people out in lecture if they are not looking at the screen when over half the class already skips. Just read the book and go to lab
He obviously knows what he's talking about but he can't convey it well to you. Takes off points for trying. Would not recommend.
Paul is a cool guy but this class really shouldn't just have 1 lecture per week.
This man is literally insane. During his one lecture of the week, half the time is spent drawing on analogies and telling stories that are not only irrelevant, they are failed attempts at humor where he will actually chuckle at his own jokes. Additionally, his exam questions are somewhat easy but there's just too many of them and everyone suffers.
One of the absolute worst professors I have ever had. I seriously do not understand how such bad teachers can fly under the radar at this otherwise great university. This man is a terrible teacher, and an even worse explainer. You want to learn circuits your own way, with your own intuition? Too bad, that doesn't fly here. Made me hate ECE376
This is a hard class. It takes a lot of work and hw is not worth much. Make sure to go to all labs. His test are tough but if you can do the practice exam it should be somewhat okay.
How much I like him decayed exponentially as the semester went on. He goes out of his way to make things difficult. In the in class moodle quizzes, points are taken off for wrongful attempts. I understand this for multiple choice but all problems here are like that. What kind of professor deducts points for trying? He's terrible at teaching also.
He is the worst professor I have ever had.
milenkovich was not a great professor by any means. His lectures werent overly helpful
The structure of this class was horrible. The lectures were not helpful at all and I basically taught everything to myself. Other than that the tests and homeworks were fair. If you don't have to take this class, i would avoid it.
The class has you learning the material on your own during harshly graded lab exercises, with useless lectures on the material following the labs. The lectures are an absolute waste of time, with awful analogies and terrible preparation augmented by poorly executed examples. If you have a choice, take anything else.
The lectures are fairly useless. Little to no actual explanation of the material, and what it is is understood more easily through the book or other online sources. For example, one of the lectures revolved around explaining how to solve a three variable three equation system of equations. Even the TAs don't understand what he's talking about.
Milenkovic is clinically insane. Lectures are somewhat helpful, but more so entertaining. Free comedy once a week as Milenkovic dances around the room like he's in an asylum. The material of the class is super interesting, but the way it is set up is sub-par. Moodle quizzes take up the labs and no hands on experience is supplied.
Probably the worst professor I've ever encountered. Manages to make even the most basic concepts confusing. Thinks he's funny but he's not at all.
This dude is literally Doc Brown. Classic case of crazy genius that can't teach. The way he teaches is all over the place, extremely unorganized. This class needs way more that one lecture per week. Labs should be discussions. Very off topic in lecture. Doesn't explain things well at all. Doesn't provide practice exams and the exams are hard.
This is class is pretty easy. Yes he is off topic and little out there at times, but it's hilarious, I loved going to lecture. Do the homework and practice exams and you'll be more than fine.
His lectures are a joke, but he does it on purpose to weed out the sleepy and talkative students. Stay after class for the examples and he is loads of help. He knows his stuff. The class is not hard if you put in the work. Labs are tedious but it is very easy to teach yourself the material. He posts lots of practice materials. No final -- 3 exams.
One of the worst teachers in Madison. He would work out problems during class but would not explain the material well at all. When he would explain material, he would say it out loud but never write it down. If you ask him a question in class, he would avoid by talking about something unrelated to it. Exams were also a bit tough
Pauls a good guy. He means well and knows his stuff. Alot of people think his teaching style is off topic but he's connecting what we are learning to a lot of other subjects. He has really generous office hours where you can learn a ton. and his exams are just like the homework. I would take him again.
Awesome professor, would take more courses from him, but I doubt he teaches any other required courses for ME. He's extremely off topic, but hey I only go to class to listen to them. If you want to learn, good luck.
Spends a lot of the lecture period talking about stupid stuff nobody cares about. Is prone to calling out students who aren't paying attention in class. Homework is doable and exams aren't bad, but during lecture he clearly wants to be somewhere else. Labs were pretty standard.
Be prepared to hear tons of stories about Paul's wife, his model railroad obsession and discovering the reactive power rating of his refridgerator with the help of a leaf blower. The textbook is useless and while the lecture is to, it IS entertaining...Just read his online notes and go to office hours. Get ready for the most unorgaized class ever.
Master the provided notes and you'll dominate the tests. Prof. Milenkovic knows his stuff and the homework/provided notes prepare you for the very fair tests. I recommend going to the office hours at Wendt. Standard, tedious labs.
He gets a bad rep because he does go on tangents but his notes are really helpful and he makes his class really easy. especially if you go to his 3 hour office hour. He tells you exactly whats on the exams.
One of the worst teachers I've encountered in this school. just to name a few of his shortcomings: his notes are almost illegible, extremely unhelpful. Unless you're engineers who had to take this class who is only taught by Paul, Avoid him at all cost.
Frequently digresses in lecture: in some cases over half of his lecture time is spent talking about his various interests and visiting related Wikipedia articles (such as Star Trek or figure skating). Clearly is more interested in research than teaching. Gives overly-long exams in class period. Does not answer questions clearly. Can be forgetful.
Milenkovic's lectures are completely pointless-that is except for the day right before a test or quiz where he will go over every single problem that will be on it. Lectures are filled with annoying analogies and stories that make so sense-most of the time I have no idea what he is even talking about. You only have 3 quizzes and 3 exams for grade
Fairly engaging during lecture. Tells a lot of crazy stories that he tries to relate to lecture to make it more interesting. Tests are hard at first then get easier. Homework is very helpful but optional; make sure you do it!
I have never had a professor that would rather have you not show up for class. If you show up, you will probably have to wait 20 minutes before something on-topic is said. If you read the newspaper or go on your computer he will stop and wait even longer. There is just no point in going. Class isn't too hard, just lectures are pointless
He's a rather different professor, but I think he care about the students. Some of the weird stories don't make much sense, but they make the class more interesting. I feel like I need to read the textbook in addition to attending lecture in order to fully understand the material.
wish UW would give funding to the ME department so they could teach the class, worst prof. I have encountered, childish, easily confused, not very confident in lecture, even worse in office hours, I'm a little saddened that UW would employ a guy like this, little sad...
Class was hard. Homework was hard. My favorite professor.
Kept class interesting and useful, joked around in lecture some; which made power lectures much better. Homework wasn't easy, but not too hard; exams were decently hard though, definitely study.
I don't understand all the hate. Milenkovic might be a prick, but he's entertaining, homework is short, exams are easy, and he does examples in class. What more could you want?
I dont know what else to say....mostly everyone b4 me has gotten in right. The material dosnt make sense on its own and the book is of no use in explaining it. The lectures are filled with useless material and he isnt even any help one on one. I dont know why hes teaching but hes an arogant ass who dosnt care how his students are doing.
He is not helpful and sort of arrogant. The class sucks and the book is very worthless.
Really terrible professor. Is no help at all. Answers your questions with questions. Smart guy, terrible professor. He thinks people like the material, but no one cares. Overall the class sucks, and he just makes it suck more.

Not only were his lectures far too fast (I would still be copying examples while he was finishing solving them), but when I went into office hours for help, he treated me like something on the bottom of his shoe. I can see that the guy is brilliant, but he has no business teaching. He's too concerned with more "important" things to actually help students, and he just assumes that we find the subject matter to be as easy as he does.

extremely not good teacher... at all.

Very poor at explaining principles. Go into office hours and learn everything from your TA. Lab lectures also seemed to be helpful.
One of the most wasteful lectures I have ever attended; book and auxillary notes were completely useless. Expect a professor who loves to mess with non-electrical engineers.
He was so-so. I think he assumed we had a better understanding of the stuff than we did. If you've got a decent aptitude for electronics, the class should be pretty easy.

i would say milenkovic is the worst in my 4 years at UW-madison. wow, the TA (yoge) did a much better job, ask the TA not the Prof if u have any questions and want a good clear answer
Worst professor ever!
