He was deeply committed to ensuring students grasped concepts thoroughly, which I greatly valued. His dedication to our success was evident, and he invested significant time in deriving and explaining ideas clearly. I truly appreciated his efforts.
Topics are pretty tough, but exams are basically copies of past exams. Study those and you will get an A.
Easy to fall behind in lessons if you miss lectures but note outlines are provided. Lectures are long but include notes and practice problems. Use homework and discussion packets as practice for exams, the more practice problems you complete the better.
This professor is your typical math professor. Lectors are a little confusing and disorganized. He sometimes goes on random tangents about a niche topic that you don't need to know for the test. I was able to combat this by putting in extra studying. I recommend CramBetter. It went over everything in class in depth and explained it all well.
Absolutely terrible professor, if you have him just watch youtube videos and never go to lecture, if you like someone who is so unorganized and just sits on stage and does nothing this is your guy but i would rather have a snail teach me the class then this "teacher". DO ANYTHING you can to avoid this man..
The grade you earn will reflect the effort you put in. Period.
Lecture was actually easy to follow. Very little theory but lots of examples. Exams are harder than lecture or discussion examples, but fun questions.
Oh Hoon wastes my mortal time on this planet by showing up both late and unprepared to class. He makes mistakes frequently because he doesn't show his work on the board. His method of notes requires an iPad, and it's tough to just use a notebook. He shows little care to his students in general and is very awkward. Please avoid at all costs!
Oh Hoon was never very organized, and many times had to erase and redo his work during lectures. The saving grace for this class was the fact that the past quizzes and exams were always identical to the actual thing, so as long as you feel comfortable with those, you should be okay.
Not a good teacher. He spends a lot of time on equations he thinks are fun to prove and then tells you that you have to learn the rest of the concepts outside of class from the book. I would leave class confused on most days. If you have a choice, don't choose Oh Hoon.
Overall he was just not a great professor. He made the concepts much more confusing than they had to be. He said the final was going to be like the review but was not. Usually the review is similar the the exam. Quizzes were all the same as the previous year just with different numbers.
Oh Hoon is a great person, but a lousy professor. If you didn't take precalc in HS you will be lost. He moves so quickly through difficult concepts that you can't even keep up w/ his rambling. He also makes mistakes 2-3 times per lecture, and sometimes a student has to correct him. However, Oh Hoon's exams are almost identical to his reviews.
Math 114 covered pre-calc concepts learned in high school, but Oh Hoon teaches them in the most confusing ways. He is very unprepared for lectures, often times making mistakes throughout problems. Content on homework is different from what is done in lecture and discussion. Very all over the place.
Oh Hoon moves very quickly in lectures, but he will always stop to answer any questions or confusion if you ask. He is very chill. Attendance doesn't matter, but lecture is helpful to be prepared for the exam. He posts all past exams, which are almost identical to exams you will take. The TA's aren't good, but discussion isn't mandatory.
Oh Hoon had very disorganized lectures and did not plan out what he was going to teach for the day. This made lecture unnecessarily confusing. For a class with content that's already confusing on its own, this put everyone at a disadvantage and most people really struggled to keep up each week.
I don't get why folks below had to lie and make him seem worse than he is. The cool thing about his exams is that he lets us use cheat sheets, which is a lifesaver in those super fast-paced summer math classes. He uses gradescope, which is nice, fair partial credits. It would've been cooler if the class was more interactive.
He writes blazing fast in lecture, so its incredibly difficult to catch up. Pretty disorganized, posts grades and lecture notes insanely late (2-3 week turnover during an 8 week term). Overcomplicates things (Prof dave will be ur friend). Exams were pretty easy at first then the difficulty jumped insanely high with obscure trick questions. Run. Now
Apparently this professor does not even know what he is talking about. On the last class, he spent thirty minutes to figure out an old exam question.
He knows what he is doing.
Oh Hoon is funny, his lectures are dry but he'll come in with an off-handed comment that really makes you laugh if you're paying attention. His midterms were straight forward, but his final did throw me for a loop and ended up messing with getting an A. Overall, I didn't put in a ton of work and it turned out fine- just wished he'd curve a bit.
I am usually pretty good at math but this professor made it extremely difficult to follow. He would joke about how he is known for being disorganized. He gave us the prior exam as the main study method without posting an answer key to see if we were studying the correct material and didn't answer my email when I reached out. Drop him.
Overall it is a difficult class, your grade is pretty much only determined by the 3 exams, but Oh Hoon Kwon goes through lots of examples in class that are clear and easy to study from. He has old exams posted that are exactly what he uses to make the new exams and in the lecture before each exam, he goes over exactly what will be tested.
Calc with Oh Noon was way harder than it needed to be. On the first day of class he says "You have probably heard stories about me being boring and disorganized... they are all true". At least the man is self aware. Lectures are hard to follow and the TAs aren't much better either. Overall, did not have a good experience with the professor or class
Oh Hoon is a really poor professor. His lectures were insanely disorganized. We got 3 weeks behind at one point which meant content was cut, which puts any students taking Calc at a disadvantage. Class isn't necessarily hard in itself but becomes hard with a bad professor. Constantly stated that a curve would be applied, but we never got one.
Oh Hoon Kwon is a caring but unorganized professor. I never used the book even though he said that we should. The subject matter wasn't hard but the way that it was taught made it difficult. I recommend going to every lecture as that is when I learned the most. He would give the subject matter of each test and quiz the lecture before the test/quiz.
Well he did not assign any readings but asked to read the textbook because he said his lecture was going to be a brief outline of what we need to study. It was quite obvious which parts in the textbook were important or not. Do not miss his lectures. It was boring because I already knew the stuffs but if you are new lectures would be very helpful.
Oh Hoon was a mostly careless professor who was occasionally funny but not on purpose. Yelled at us for not reading the textbook but never assigned readings. Gave us a good outline of what was on each exam, so not terribly difficult to succeed in the course, but if you're interested in learning, find another professor.
Oh Hoon is a nice guy, but his lectures are a disaster. Lectures don't correlate with discussion worksheets or homework. You will learn this class exclusively through online youtube videos. This is not a hard subject, at least, it shouldn't be. Which is why it is a miracle that half of his class is failing.
He is not the best lecturer, but he cares and will tell you what to study.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM! If you want to be happy, take another class. Everyone leaves lectures more confused than when they came in. TA's are no help either, literally run away. What we're learning isn't even difficult, the way he teaches makes it so much harder than it should be. Look for online classes instead. Do. Not. Take.
He is a good teacher!! Everything he taught was basically in the textbook. He asked students to read the textbook several times during the class because his lecture was not covering everything. Luckily I followed his advice and started to read the textbook. His test questions were basically from textbook examples and discussion worksheets verbatim.
He is a decent math teacher, not bad but not good. I was lucky enough that I have a pretty decent memory for math so whenever he doesn't teach something correctly or fully. I just do the homework or watch a video to refresh my memory. Exams are fair but only 3, just study the pass exams and you should be decent off. Think it through and keep calm.
OH Hoon is a nice, caring professor, but he's a really poor teacher. We were 2 weeks behind in lectures and we never got caught up. He also was really hard to understand and didn't answer questions very well. Get a different professor if you can.
All Professor Kwon did was write math problems on the board, showed us how to solve, and move on. Homework at times did not align with what we were learning. Whole class was failing and struggling in some sort with the material. This is not how you teach a subject that people often tend to struggle on. Good luck with email responses. Don't take.
His lectures are an absolute circus, I am never sure what to expect next, his work is unfollowable. Test make a major portion of the grade.
Oh Hoon has horrible lectures, they are so unclear and unorganized. Thank God the material is not that difficult, but pray you have a good TA to reteach you stuff in discussion if you don't understand it. Oh Hoon is a nice enough guy and he tells you what each question on the quizzes and exams test, but the tests are much harder than quizzes.
Very disorganized and confusing, even if you go to the lectures.
Lecture can be confusing/disorganized/rushed. We would fall behind schedule a lot and go to discussion to work on material we had yet to cover in lecture. Discussions were the most helpful place to learn. The actual material isn't that difficult so if you miss a lecture, it's not that hard to catch up + he tells you exactly what to study for tests.
If I could turn back time I would've picked a instructor
With prof. Kwon, his lectures are a mess. There's never a clear idea/ part of what topic he is teaching and every day feels like a new class and it felt incredibly unorganized. There are 2 midterms and a final that is 84% of your grade, so that can be very stressful if you do poorly on exams. Kwon is nice enough, but I had to teach myself. E
Oh Hoon Kwon is a fine professor but the structuring of this class is horrible. Three tests are worth 84% of your final grade and each one is only 6 questions. Don't bother asking a question in piazza because no one will answer. There are weekly quizzes in discussion but they are only worth 4% of your grade.
Kwon consistently gets things wrong or is confused in lectures, making everything even more confusing for the students. Also, over 80% of the overall grade is determined by three exams, the first and third of which were IMPOSSIBLE and the second of which was far too easy. Be prepared to self-teach and pray you have a good TA.
He doesnt give good lectures, he confuses himself during them and only goes off of the textbook. Half the time I had to reteach myself and he gives no good opportunities for students who struggle to regain theyre footing. Pray you have a good TA, which I didnt and maybe you will be able to do good if you arent already a natural at math. Awful.
Reasonable lectures but a bit tricky exams. Overall it was just fine. Make sure to refresh your algebra! He did not teach heavy algebra, but his exams assumed it.
This class was beyond difficult. Your grade mainly depends on three exams. The second exam (average 91) was WAY TOO easy and the first (73)and third (70)exams were impossible. He doesn't curve and lectures do not help. If you do end up in his class, my advice is to take notes in lectures and bring them to math lab, it's the only way I passed.
Nice guy but not a good teacher. Avoid taking this class unless you have to. Take 114 and 221 instead. Exams are hard and there is no curve on them. So many people failed the first exam that the second one was too easy (not complaining) but the final was extremely difficult. Class ave. was a 70%. Self taught the entire class and I'm exhausted.
Exam 1 was mostly about algebra. Exam 2 was way too easy kinda calculus-ish. Final was like back to algebra plus what you learned from his calculus. It was pretty fun!
Final is way too hard and he is AWFUL at teaching.
Guys. please dont take this class with Oh Hoon. I am actually exhausted from teaching myself all of the content because none of his lectures ever made any sense. I am actually begging you. The class AVERAGE was a 77. Do yourself a favor next semester.
While sometimes he makes a good joke or two in class, OH HOON DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. Not only does he not know how to teach, he doesnt respond to emails or help you. Do not take a class taught by him if you have the option to.
this math class was the hardest ive taken. attending lecture/discussion didnt help as he was confusing and the TAs suck, no offense. i had to teach myself everything. i would recommend any other QRA class!!
His lecture is pretty easy to follow. Worksheets are crazy, but actual exam questions are not difficult.
He is a nice guy and he can be funny on occasion, but he explains concepts in a very complex way and will unnecessarily explain the confusing mathematical reasoning behind equations and it's unnecessary. Im struggling so hard yet I have a tutor twice a week. He just copies examples from the textbook instead of explaining what he is doing.
Professor does a good job with lecture videos. Sometimes, his material is hard to understand but he is mostly clear and concise in his lectures. Lot of tests and homework, but with some studying, this class wasn't too difficult.
Very helpful and understanding professor. Made the class easy with his concise lectures. Was available for help frequently outside of class and is a pure gem of a person. Could not recommend him more.
His lecture videos were concise and relatively easy to follow. As exams were open-book, I took screenshots of his work and printed them out. His videos are very helpful in learning the concept. I never used the textbook even once. The homework is hard and lengthy every week. Make sure you go over them! The exams are similar to the HW.
The lectures he posted were rather unnecessary and messy but if you asked him for help through email he was far more helpful. The textbook was very helpful, it was the way I got through the course and learned the material. Tests every week and a few things of homework to go along with it, wasnt bad but time consuming
Your grade is heavily dependent on the exam you have each week, each one being worth 7% of your grade. I stopped watching the lectures halfway through the semester and pretty much taught myself the material. Uses honorlock.
Prof Kwon is a really nice professor!!! Since I take his course I feel that I learn a lot in his lecture. Yes, for sure Kwon sometimes teaches wrongly in his lecture but that can be inspirationalHis class will teach lots of fundamental proofs which can really solve my confusion. If you prepare well, you can waive the final exam. How amazing!
To me, his lectures are very messy. But, he's a very reasonable professor. It is possible to pass with little to no work but it is a lot of work if you want to understand everything he teaches. Seriously, he is super chill! :D
Oh Hoon is a very nice guy but his class is quite difficult. He often spends time on things in class that will not even be on the exams and also puts content on the exams that was covered for only a few minutes if at all in class. While he pushes students to think about math more in depth, he can be an extremely tough grader.
A lot of homework and most of it has nothing or very little to do with what we are learning in class
Very fair and reasonable. He cares students.
Oh Hoon is the sweetest man ever. You can really tell that he cares about his students and wants them to do well. He makes this class really easy to do well in. All of the tests cover the exact material that's on the homework sheets given in discussion. Would definitely recommend.
He knows what he teaches. I learned a lot from the course, and it was a good review from the advanced point of view.
Oh Hoon is probably the worst math teacher I have had. He confuses even himself in class. He is not clear on what he is doing and doesn't teach well at all. Even when I went into his office hours, I got nothing from what he was "teaching".
Spends all of class teaching us the math which makes it much easier to learn instead of us guessing what to do. He constantly asks if we understand and for feedback on the homework and tests. He really seems to care about our class and about this math program. Would highly suggest Oh Hoon.
Does not explain things clearly, gets confused doing his own problems. Be friends with your TA.
He curved the total, and gave reasonable grades. He paused a lot, and asked us to think about the questions. It was not a typical lecture style, but was very helpful for me to do the problems.
He is a nice guy but his lecture was sometimes disorganized. He curved the class at the end and had pretty easy quizzes. Exams were somewhat hard but he curves them.
He was not that bad. A lot of people did not even know basic stuffs from high school, and he tried to dumb down the materials. His tests are nothing like MyMathLab practice problems. His exam questions are way harder than those practice questions. It was challenging, but I've learned a lot from his lecture.
Oh hoon was a really nice person. He really cares about his students, but he made easy material challenging and the tests were impossible.
Algebra was easier than Trig.
This dude may or may not know what he is doing. When he is explaining things in lectures he confuses himself and has stop multiple times. My TA got my through this class. Oh Hoon seems like a nice guy but just not really sure of himself
There was a consistent system of homework each week, quizzes in discussion every week, and then the midterms. The midterms were substantially harder than the quizzes but if you study you'll be fine, he explains things well if you attend lecture.
Completely disorganized, did not even look over the material before presenting it to the class; almost all information provided during lectures had errors in them (in which he would then awkwardly try to fix, most times not); tests were based almost entirely on previous exams; take another professor.
This is class is tough especially if you're not good at math but he is there to offer help. He is a tough grader though and could be a little more sensitive in that respect but he is a good guy, but be prepared for difficult tests. But he lets you correct them for points back.
