Cancer genetics was very applicable to the medical field, especially the VEGF pathway and BRACA genes that are covered in class as well as current biologic treatments and future targets for resistant cancers.

He cares about students and teaching as a whole. Very accessible outside of class and he obviously knows his stuff. Everything explained clearly. All slides posted on Canvas and lectures were recorded. Exams were challenging but averages remained ~85. Only complaint is the $70 textbook automatically added to tuition- only used it once. 9.5/10

This was the first semester Immunogenetics (GEN 588) and it is a challenging course, but Professor Zumwalde breaks down the material really well in his lecture, and in the problem sets so we know what to focus on. His Canvas is also really well organized which helps to stay on top of things. Analogies were on point.

Typical American Dad. I mean I'm lovin' it

Professor Zumwalde was a great professor for Cancer Genetics. Digestible lectures and readings. Very responsive and amazing at explaining concepts if asked!

Dr. Zumewalde gave very engaging lectures and even made me (a person who hates science) really interesting in the topics we covered. The readings were very topical and interesting.

Good guy, passionate about his work. Expectations are clear and exam content comes straight from his provided material.

You get the sense he has an absolute mastery of what he's talking about and if you find that stuff interesting you'll enjoy this class. Pretty much no assignments and the quizzes and tests go no farther than key lecture material.

I loved this class and I loved him. Super interesting subject taught well. Hes awesome, articulate, and approachable and I cant wait for another class with him

Dr. Zumwalde is by far one of the best professors I've had at UW. I highly recommend going to his office hours - You'll realize just how smart he is, and what a wealth of knowledge he possesses. The readings he assigns are interesting and help you expand your knowledge 10-fold. He's a GREAT professor!

Dr. Zumwalde has become one of my favorite professors at the UW. It was obvious from the first day that he really cared about us and our learning. He is a fantastic lecturer and always prompted us to think deeper during our student presentations. Cancer genetics is a complex and exciting field that you really get to explore in this course.

Great Professor for cancer genetics, it was his first semester teaching the class. He presented the material excellently. It's great to have a professor who is young and passionate about what they are presenting on behalf of!

Dr. Zumwalde is one of the most compassionate and accessible professors I've encountered, and works with Dr. Gumperz to provide a straightforward and insightful lecture in MMI 341. Grades are based on 3 exams that are doable with enough studying. To reinforce concepts, they'll ask questions from previous exams on future exams.
