Professor Strachen was a joy to study under and work with professionally. He is highly accessible through office hours and more than willing to calmly explain any and all information. If you're EE/CE try to get classes with him if possible.
I am a senior EE at this school. If you see a course with Nathan Scratchen as the teacher, do anything you can to take it. He cares. If you are a sophomore reading this needing to take circuits, or 220 and haven't yet experienced the horrendous teaching in the EE department, listen to me and take Scratchen's class no matter what.
Great professor. Clearly loves to teach and is invested in his students. This course was difficult and confusing, but he provided multiple extra credit opportunities for students to demonstrate effort and learning through hands on practice.
The class was overall easy. Strachen made the topics interesting to learn about, and something that I wanted to study more about in the future. Overall, a very caring professor.
Professor Strachen is an amazing teacher! He knew everyone by name and was very passionate about teaching. He was always willing to help during class and labs. He also had many ways of connecting the students with different opportunities around campus. Would highly recommend taking this class!
I took ECE230 with him last year and that's great. However, he made ECE220 the worst class I ever took. He didn't update videos on time, and the quizzes were buggy (lots of issues with quiz durations, messing up variables, etc). Anyway, he's trying his own way to let students understand the class content, but he didn't do well at least for 220.
Strachen is by far the best professor I have had at UW, especially in the ECE department. He is very engaging and caring. He addressed us by name usually, and he was always in a good mood. He also showed some demos, things unrelated to the class, but things that were super interesting and things that we'd never see otherwise. Cant recommend enough.
Nate is an awesome professor, he is bound and determined to go above and beyond for students in both undergrad and graduate courses. His offi e hours are useful and his workload is respectable.
Cares a lot about students and takes time to thoroughly explain. Threw a pizza party for the class before each exam- highly recommend.
