Really well spoken and passionate on the topic. Interesting lectures and fills her time well. There's not a lot of assignments, but she does want you to do well. I really enjoy her class and would recommend for anyone- especially those interested in history and art history

Professor Marshall is probably the best professor I have had at UW so far. She is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the material, and lectures are always fun and interesting. Highly recommend talking to her outside of class if you have the chance, she is super personable and genuinely interested in what you have to say.

She was a great lecturer and passionate about the class. Her requirements for an 100 level class were too much (eg memorizing over 50 works and their details). Something I found annoying was that in exams there was no room for any personal interpretation. It was purely if we could guess the themes that she thought connected works.

I took Nancy's class the first semester of covid, and she was literally so kind and supportive. Her lectures were very interesting and in-depth and she was great at explaining the connections between art, politics, class etc. Even if you're not into art history I highly recommend her classes.

Nancy is a solid professor. She is clearly passionate about what shes teaching and is a great instructor/lecturer. My advice for her classes is to pay attention to the assigned readings and make sure you do everything she asks even is it seems small (ex. responding to emails and questions in class).

Dr. Marshall is easily one of my favorite professors I've had. She's so passionate about art history and it clearly shows in her lectures. Read the textbook, show up to lectures, and you'll be fine. It's an easy class and reignited my passion for art history. I can't recommend the course or Dr. Marshall enough.

Really interesting class and lecture material. Only read the textbook if you are confused - everything on the exam is in the lectures. Easy A if you watch lectures, take notes, and participate in the discussion questions. Online midterm/final both take-home exams over the weekend. A super sweet teacher who is obviously passionate about her work .

Prof Marshall is such a passionate and easy-going person. Although I took this class to fulfill a humanities credit, I genuinely enjoyed her class and would recommend it to anyone who needs a filler. The class is a little disorganized but that's expected with everything suddenly shifted to an online format.

I took this class while studying in the UK, so take this with a grain of salt. When the course started, I couldn't stand her. I am not an art history person, and I found the subject matter to be asinine, but Nancy grew on me. She is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and she actually made me enjoy the material.

Easy and interesting class about race and art history that fulfills ethnic studies requirement. Nancy is clearly passionate and knowledgable on the subject, and her lectures are engaging. Class attendance is not mandatory, but lectures are most of what's tested on. However, if you go to lecture, it's necessary to do very little work outside.

Took her 350 class and was so happy with it. She's incredibly knowledgeable and fair in her grading, just wants people to participate and think critically. Attendance isn't mandatory but sometimes she does random a check. Go to class and read what you can, and you'll be totally fine. Not sure why others are complaining, pretty straight forward.

Really knowledgeable and kind person! She usually teaches art classes but I took an English course with her, so sometimes I felt like her instructions for essays were kind of vague. She expects a lot from discussions and assignments, but only because she wants everyone to be engaged and learn something. Attendence is strict!

Great lecturer and very knowledgeable. She was great. She required textbook and readings, but I didn't do any of them and still got As on both exams. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but definitely go to discussion. I missed 3 discussions and got a 66% participation grade, which dropped me down to a B for the class. You will learn a lot.

Nancy, is an amazing lecturer and a true gem of a professor. I took this as a Com B, which makes it substantially more writing. The class was heavily backloaded, which was frustrating and made this class more stressful than it needed to be. She assigns an absurd amount of reading, but only some of it is necessary.

Prof. Nancy is clearly passionate about art history and her class is relatively lively, but her expectations are quite high for an intro level class. She said we'd have to memorize 60 paintings, but she gave us 75, ugh. She also doesn't give you the image lists until a few weeks before the exams, so you don't know which works to take notes on...

Professor Marshall is very passionate about what she teaches, making her lectures very enjoyable. I've taken 202 and 346 with her, and both classes were some of my favorites at UW-Madison. Her exams are lengthy in terms of writing; however, if you study and attend lecture, they are no problem. Overall, she is a great professor!

By far one of the best professors I had while at UW. She could make the phone book interesting if necessary. Extremely interesting information and very clear lecturesoverall course structure. She also genuinely cares about her students and their wellbeing. Take any class she is teaching. You will not regret it.

She's very nice in person and enthusiastic about British art. She's a bit long winded, but it is interesting. She also accepts people's thoughts about the art rather than forcing students to accept her thoughts only.

Professor Marshall is such a great professor, I would recommend her to anyone. She's enthusiastic and brings positive energy to her lectures. Her expectations are fair, and is very understanding if you need an extension or help on assignments. I can easily say she has been my most favorite and admirable professor at UW-Madison.

Really engages with students and is FULL of knowledge. Super enthusiastic - makes going to class in a dark lit room with comfy chair easier. A little bit short in communicating sometimes but LOVES CATS so it doesn't matter.

Great Prof and a great lady. I was very interested in the seminar and absolutely LOVED her!!

Overall, a great professor. Very enthusiastic about the subject, and great at sparking discussion. One of the best professors that I've had on campus.

She's a very nice and compassionate person. Very passionate about her subjects and it's very clear. She's helpful but may just go on tangents about her passions unrelated to class. But that doesn't matter because she's just so kind and answers any questions you may have!

Great professor and great class! I definitely recommend it!

Great prof.

Highly recommend her! Excellent professor. She's enthusiastic, approachable, very clear, always willing to help, and is pretty funny. She assigns a fair amount of reading, but she doesn't assign a ton of other assignments, which compensates for it. If you stay relatively on top of the reading, her class will a piece of cake and incredibly enjoyable

great proseminar to take. so interesting and marshall is good as sparking discussion. for a proseminar i thought the work load was quite fair. great class to take!

Great prof- very clear, and extremely fair grader. Keeps things interesting, and really knows what she's talking about

Awesome. If you need to fulfill a credit requirement and don't take her class you are an idiot.

AH202 was a great class! Marshall comes to lecture each day with a "sort of wonderful," contagious, unmatched enthusiasm that makes the hour and a half fly by. The tests are REALLY easy IF you study. I'd recommend studying slide IDS far in advance, and the exams will be a piece of cake.

She is REALLY wonderful. she knows exactly what shes talking about and she keeps things as interesting as possible. she also really understands what it's like to be a student, and is a very reasonable professor.

I instantly took a dislike to Professor Marshall's lectures, but found her to be quite interesting of a person. The lectures are not that important in 202 seeing as I went to about 1/2 of the lectures and for the 50% of lectures I did make it to, I was asleep for 3/4 of, and I still managed to pull of a strong A on the midterm.

202 was a great class. I'm taking it as a pre-interior design major, so I have to take this class, but I love it! Going to lecture definitely helps remember paintings. Make flashcards and memorize them because it's a big part of the exam that you can't B.S. I highly recommend this class and hear it's easier than 201.

I enjoyed this class, the tests are pretty easy if you study, and if you go to class and take notes you should get a good grade.

Interesting material, tests weren't that hard - just needed title/date/artist for identifications (unlike 201). Also had her for my TA (honors section) -she is very interesting - a little flaky maybe? but always has interesting comments. Pretty easy otherwise, tests were straightforward, papers were interesting topics and graded pretty easy.

great prof, made the subject very interesting. Friday lectures were very interesting but not necessary. if you do the work you will do fine

Lectures are very interesting but hard to stay awake sometimes because of the lighting. Great professor and you can tell she really loves and knows this stuff. Great class if you ever manage to go... but you can totally get away with not attending. Tests are easy, hardest part is memorizing dates!!

One the best professors I have ever had! Her class is challenging but she will make you love the subject with her charismatic teaching style and enthusiasm. She is always willing to meet with you and make sure you understand the topic.

She's awesome. Best professor in the department. Not a hard class. Take any class with her.

Professor Marshall did what no other person could: made me interested in 19th century art. I never liked the stuff, and in fact did a thesis on something totally unrelated, but I loved her direct and informational teaching style, the relaxed and open atmosphere of her classes, and her reachability. Highly recommended.

Probably the best class and best professor I've had so far at the UW. Keeps the class interested and really makes an effort to learn names.

One of my favorite professors at this university. She'll really make you want to learn the material. I've taken several of her 300-level courses, and they're not demanding, granted you come to lectures and do the readings. Highly highly recommended.

you have to participate a lot in her class, but she usually is on a very basic level to get in the conversation. she is one of the nicest proffs but she has a sort of off-putting aire about her for some reason. she needs a make-over! But her class is pretty easy, fun, and usually interesting.

Very knowledgable and presents concepts and analizations effectively. Exams are moderately challenging, but very fair.

Very feminist, but in a good way. Also helpful when you have a TA that doesn't speak English and cannot read your writing. All in all, good class.

Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her job. Great prof.

She cracks a few jokes...refreshing after the horrible boring lectures in 201. However, talks pretty fast, and induces sleep sometimes...but that's to be expected with art history. overall, she's pretty good, and I reccomend her.

Boring!
