Don't let the average grade as of now (D from what I see) scare you, she is a great professor with many students with good grades. She's not the laid-back-this-doesn't-really-matter-so-here's-an-A teacher nor the so-strict-60%-is-the-average-either, she's a good balance and what most professors should be. A fair grader, and success in her classes are largely based upon effort. Do the homework, show up to class, and turn things in on time and you will be headed for good grades. This past semester I did horrible in the class because I didn't go to class, didn't turn everything in, and didn't show up, it was a real mess and she gave me what I deserved.Rate My Professors ↗
This is the semester when things get real. If you're not good at Japanese, you'll really struggle with this class. However, her grades are fair (lots of partial credit!) and I personally preferred reading all the short stories/newspaper articles over grinding through another textbook. Go to class and do ALL the homework, or your grade will plummet.Rate My Professors ↗
EA 203 is the 1st Japanese class I took in UW-Madison, before that I just learned on my own. I was not confident about speaking at all, but I appreciate McGloins sensei for encouraging me to try. McGloin Sensei makes it clear for what should be expected in exam. Taking 203$204 might have been one of the best life decision.Rate My Professors ↗
Not the most exciting professor, however she is easy understand and willing to clarify should you have done your work. Be sure to review everything covered in lecture prior to class because she calls people out on the spot. Her tests are average; however her grading of the tests are very generous, IMHO.
