Since the beginning of the course and I was totally lost, the lextures are useless and the slides make no sense. The class also relies heavily on the written component of the exam. overall not a great experience, even though it is calc 2 and I like calculus.

He was a little hard to understand and his lectures were taken essentially straight out of the textbook which was frustrating. Sometimes there were typos in his slides which were not always corrected during lecture, so if a student didn't notice the typo, they'd be screwed. However, he genuinely cares about his students, and is very accommodating.

Definitely one of the best in business. I love how his lectures are short yet super effective in conveying concepts. He is also very caring and considerate to extenuating circumstances that students may experience. I once had a problem with my internet while I was trying to finish an exam. Chen didn't hesitate to work things out. Love this guy!!!!!

I love him! He can always make hard concepts easy to understand. Load is not heavy and you can enjoy the lectures!

Not that great of a professor. He was difficult to understand at times and basically just read straight out of a notebook for lecture. Wouldn't take him again

Nan Chen was a fantastic professor, and he really cared about his students. He was always willing to help inside and outside of class, and he even convinced the math department to let him have a higher curve as our class was at 7:45 a.m. Overall an amazing teacher and a nice guy.

He was an amazing professor to teach this class. The material itself is difficult but he makes it very easy to understand. He does not assume you remember all of the old concepts you were taught years ago. Tests are based on homework and he is very good at informing you of what you will be tested on. He was very accessible and great to talk to.

One of the best Math professors I have ever got in UW-Madison. He explains things in details and gives good examples to help you understand them easily. An important thing is to do the homework and try to carefully apply what you have learnt in the lecture to it. Exams are easy but with a few concept multiple choice questions in the beginning.

Honestly his lectures were confusing, as it was hard to tell what was important and what wasn't. I had a tough time telling the proofs apart from the formulas, which made reviewing a bit harder. He did include many examples that did end up helping. Tests on the other hand were mostly easy but had obscure homework problems that can kill a grade.

Nan Chen gave very clear lectures with both simple and complex examples to explain concepts. His review lectures are extremely helpful! He cared students very much and was also accessible outside class. I never went to his office hour because I had another lecture at the same time. But I sent him emails for questions and he replied with details.

I like him soooo much!!!!! He is super nice! Best professor I've ever had!

Class material is easy and his lectures are helpful, he gives a review after each unit that is extremely helpful. The one thing I did not like was how he graded his exams, he gives little to no partial credit which doesn't make sense in a calculus based class.

Take the best professor's class if having the chance, or you will regret.

He uses good examples to explain things clearly. and the exams are easy. If you do your homework carefully, you should be just fine.

He is soooo great! The best professor I have ever seen!! I strongly recommend you guys to take his classes!

the best professor I have ever have in math class, he really wants us to grasp the essence of 234

Nan Chen is the best professor of math 234. His homework problems (as well as some questions on midterms/final) come from the textbook exercise . His homework only counts accomplishment, not correction. Grading is easy and average GPA is 3.2 (about 100A/280 including high school students) Get up early for his 7:45 class definitely worthwhile

Great professor, very caring and shows passion in what he is teaching. Hoping to have a class taught by him in the future!

Nan Chen truly wants everyone who takes his class to understand the material and get a good grade. Nearly all of the exam questions are taken right from the HW, so do the HW! He is always encouraging and helpful during office hours. If you have the chance, take 234 with Chen!

Best professor NA

Best prof at UW! If it is possible to have a class with him, go for it!

He is the best professor I've ever had.

The best professor I have met

The best math professor I've ever had. Go to his classes, attend discussions, do homework and you'll get an A.

Professor Chen is empathetic and understanding. He's always thinking about how to help his students, and anyone can tell he's prepared for every one of his lectures. If you email him with questions, he'll get back to you promptly and answer any questions in detail.

A really awesome professor. Always helpful during the office hour. Clear lecture and straight points. Homework is the most important for grade.

Professor Chen is a very straight forward and clear lecturer. He is also very empathetic towards students. He pushed our homework deadlines back to give us more time. He makes it challenging enough so you learn the material, but not so hard that you are discouraged.

Professor Chen is always willing to help students. His office hours are always full. He kept encouraging me and even replied my emails with detailed explanations during the weekend before the exam.
