She is a very sweet professor who I can tell cares a lot. Her style was just not good for me. There were so many readings that were often never talked about, and the assignments were pointless and did not relate to the class. Also, our final assignment was to make a movie, which was silly because it was an English class, not a film class.

Monique had all of her lesson planned out and was willing to restructure the class to fit what the students found interesting. Additionally Monique is very responsive and is willing to meet outside of class or help seek additional resources. Her lectures are engaging and fun to listen to although sometimes she can be side tracked.

Monique is interesting to say the least. She is a very good lecturer and very intelligent. She also was willing to meet with me various times outside of class and offer me feedback. She is a little abrasive, but that's just her personality. If you give her the chance, her class is amazing and I would definitely recommend to any English major.

So there weren't any exams, but there were three short papers and two long papers. I felt like I never had a second to catch my breath between them. Her lectures are fine, but she makes it really difficult to expand off of them in papers. Some of the readings are also a little long considering we only spend one lecture on each piece.

I would recommend this class to anyone looking for a healthy challenge. Professor Allewaert is brilliant, gives engaging lectures, and the TA team was so helpful. The class isn't too reading heavy and most of the content is interesting. Grades are based on five papers and participation, and it's very easy to get help outside class.

She's insanely smart and kind of intimidating. She's a tough grader but she loves her students and will get them where they need to be academically. There's two big essays and a bunch of little stuff and it's a pretty great class, especially if you take it through a FIG.

Professor Allewaert is brilliant and this is clear from her lectures. She is well organized and really knows her stuff. Sometimes she will call on you randomly during lecture which can be scary, but she genuinely wants her students to succeed and she always make sure she is being as clear as possible. I would love to take another one of her classes

My favorite professor at UW. Great sense of humor and makes the material relatable and interesting. She is very understanding and empathetic to students and their schedules and more than willing to meet outside of class. Assigns a mix of long and short papers, no exams. A bit of a tough grader on papers, but has helped me become a better writer.

217 was a big lecture, but she helped clarify a lot of the material (MUST DO READING BEFORE CLASS THOUGH) so that when we got into discussion it was easy. And she gave a study sheet that was really helpful and useful in other classes.

Professor Alleawart is one of the only professors I've had that seemed to want to engage in an open dialogue with their students. She is eager to help students develop confidence and an ability to articulate their ideas. She is relatively laid back in terms of deadlines and homework but expects students to participate.

Not a good professor. Very unclear. Lecture is more of a history lecture

Monique was one of the most helpful teachers that I have encountered in my entire college experience. She was always willing to work with my schedule so that I could meet with her about papers and projects. She was also willing to give extensions on deadlines if you asked in advance and I learned a lot from her about writing and analysis.
