Lecture materials and assignment felt very unprepared. There was little to no lecture plans, and discussions were repetitive. Very little instructions for multiple 10+ page papers. Cannot pass course without perfect attendance and final (each 33% grade). Would not recommend, work load is not worth it.
Professor White is a brilliant and caring professor who is invested in helping students learn about food systems and social justice. If you don't care about the material you can still get a good grade, but where she really shines is in supporting students to find their passion. Read the material and show up ready to ask questions, it is worth it!
Really nice professor, only a 3 easy essays and a single homework assignment. The class isn't bas so long as you go to lectures, and Professor White makes a really good effort to be as engaging as possible. Also weekly mandatory discussions with participation graded.
LOVED her. shes so passionate about everything she's talking about and has taught me so much. loves to discuss with her students rather than just talk at them. understands a lot about the world. her lecture slides are a bit unorganized so its important to pay attention. majority of grade is 3 essays, very broad, super easy to do well
Prof White is very engaging and cares a lot about the well being her students. Her passion for the material is very apparent and I looked forward to going to lecture. Course material is very interesting however lectures are a little unorganized which made writing essays with a vague prompt challenging.
Professor White is an amazing women! She has a great personality that makes otherwise rather dull topics much more interesting. Sometimes has guest lecturers, and has daily readings to do. Three take home essay exams, and one partnered project. Discussions are mandatory but the TAs make them fun and interesting
It is very obvious that professor White really cares about her students and really urges her students to do what is best for them. She has very interesting lectures and when she is speaking you can tell how much passion she has for her career. It was a nice breath of fresh air having a professor understand what students go through on a daily basis.
The semester was spent learning about agriculture and social issues through readings and discussion but grades were based on a semester long class project. Nothing was difficult at all. Dr. White is a sweetheart with a BIG and bubbly personality. Attendance not mandatory but you will miss important information sometimes if you're not there.
Monica is caring, kind, funny, and extremely passionate about what she teaches. Class engaging and not challenging. You will learn a lot from her. I recommend all classes she teaches.
Very bizarre professor. She's very funny and enthusiastic about what she teaches, but has a rudeness about her that comes out every once in a while. One time I raised my hand and silently waited for 20 seconds and she yelled at me for it. I guess you've just got to stay on her good side!
