Prof Finney was awesome! You can tell how passionate she is about the subject, as she presents information with an upbeat, interesting attitude. This class requires a good amount of individual studying, but Prof Finney made it easy to stay interested and provided a lot of useful study materials throughout the entire course.
Professor Finney is a great teacher if the class was entirely oriented around her lectures.Professor Finney had to provide extra points and extra credit assignments for her exams due to the averages not being "to her liking" and lower than previous semesters. Don't take this class if you are not prepared to read lengthy textbook chapters to study.
Misha is a lovely person. However, her tests are impossible. She nitpicks information from the textbook that is mentioned once and never again- like percentages that ultimately serve to be an example of prevalence- and makes them the bulk of exams. She does not take responsibility for how strange her tests are.
Do not take this professor. Exams=beyond difficult. Exams had nothing to do with what we learned in class. The exam questions end up being random statistics and facts that were never taught in the first place. Average exam scores are around 65%, but the rest of the class is easy. Sitting through her lectures is also hard. Hope this helped!
She only ever reads off of the slides and her exam questions are not anything what she tells you they will be or how the study guide was structured. Her grading style and technique makes no sense and she takes a level 100 WAY too serious
Dr. Finney provided many opportunities to showcase our knowledge in a fair way through quizzes and exams. She is responsive and caring in such a genuine way. The readings are long but informative and helpful. Attend the practice sessions and you will do great! I throughly enjoyed this class.
Misha is a nice person but an awful teacher. Her lectures are just her reading the slides or saying the exact information from the book. Sometimes I feel as though she doesn't know what she is talking about. Much preferred the TA for teaching. Can't recommend.
Misha is a lovely person and very enjoyable to converse with. However, she is a very disorganized lecturer, and half of the information is not on-task. I am taking CSD 240 with her and just completed our first and only midterm. The information Misha provided in class was rarely on the exam. Skip her useless lectures and just read the textbook.
Misha is such a passionate professor. You can tell she loves what she does and always tells us stories that connects to the content. Once a week, she will have an in class attendance work sheet that goes towards your grade. Lectures are pretty easy to follow. Get ready to type 5 discussion posts a week- that was the most annoying thing for me.
Misha has clear grading criteria and expectations, constantly offers ways for students to get extra support, and cares about the success of everyone. She emphasizes reading the textbook and always provides plenty of practice opportunities. Practice the material, ask questions, and don't expect to get a good grade if you won't put in the effort.
Misha is a great person and you can tell she cares about her students. She brings mints and candy to every exam! The class is very well structured in my opinion, separated based on the chapters in the textbook, so it's easy to reference back and forth. On quizzes/exams the wording on questions is sometimes weird, but she's open to feedback.
she's a great person, but i struggle with her teaching style. her lecture slides are available, but she doesn't always go in the same order that our copy has. Very reading heavy, as it's where you get most of the information. Honorlock exams (3, not cumulative), homework every week, with chapter quizzes and 5 small discussion posts every Friday.
Misha has been one of the worst professors I have had at UW. She is never organized, and lectures do not make sense. Information given contradicts itself with other information given. The tests will ask question that are very miniscule, and don't really make sense. Would not recommend.
Not a fan of Misha for 315. We had honorlock room scan quizzes many many times throughout the semester. These quizzes would have up to 50 questions, so they were truly more like exams. We would also have material on these quizzes we had not yet covered in class. She constantly posted incorrect announcements from the prior year and never fixed them.
Syllabus is impossible to understand, she rambles on in lecture and then is surprised when we don't accomplish anything (don't be surprised when you have to teach the info to yourself), and is unfair with grading. She rounded a few students grades my semester after explicitly stating she wouldn't round and then refused to do it for other students.
She has little sense of awareness regarding student's time. Lecture material was often missed due to time shortage and then "a few slides" would be released as hours of video to be watched outside of class. Material was consistently on quizzes and exams that was not covered in class, including entire chapters.
I love Misha so much. I saw her score on here was a 2.9, and I've never written a review on a professor before, but I feel so passionate about her course and how amazing she is that I just had to fix her score. Misha is a great professor and has thoughtful personal stories and experiences she weaves into her lessons.
I would not take her course again she was very sweet. Did not teach us all of the information that was on the exams and did not prepare us well for them
Whats nice about 110 is that you have lots of assignments to balance your grade out from her ridiculously specific midterm questions. The textbook is pretty dense for a 100 class. Misha herself is nice, overall, but has terrible time management skills or sense of other people's time. Beware- weekend exams.
Caring but doesn't explain concepts in lecture
Very kind person but not the easiest to learn from. Lectures are full of material and can be overwhelming. Textbook readings are often very time consuming. Exams not too hard but definitely not easy. Lots of homework but helpful to offset any mediocre exam grades.
Misha is a wonderful person who strives to learn about her students' lives. However, her lectures are very disorganized and difficult to follow. She tends to go off on a lot of tangents in class, making it so we rarely get through the material we're being tested on. It can be very frustrating.
If you are not her best friend or her favorite she will not care about you. Knowing this she is not nice when you want to meet with her. Quizzes and exams are insanely hard even if you study a lot. You need to naturally know the information from her class to do well.
I hope you're ready to take honorlock room scan quizzes every single week when you sign up for this class. Lectures have nothing to do with what is on the exams or quizzes--we were writing full IPA words on quizzes before we covered half the letters in class. Misha is a nice person, but an AWFUL professor. This content had potential to be fun too:/
This class was much harder than I thought it would be and the material was nothing like i expected. If you can avoid it honestly don't take this class. It really not interesting if you aren't going into the CS&D field. Do not recommend this class at all
Weird assignments and bad lectures; moves too fast and does not explain enough; not online accessible
Her lectures are hard to follow along with. She is a genuine person but a terrible teacher. I often read the textbook rather than listening to her in lecture because she was terrible at explaining things, but attendance is mandatory in order to get "in-class assignments" which are a good chunk of your grade and only provided during class time.
Misha comes across as very sweet and kind, and I believe she is. When it comes to anything to do with her course she can be quite rude and truly one of the least lenient professors out there. A 94 for an A (with no rounding) is unnecessarily mean and clearly on some sort of power trip for someone with irrelevant lectures that dont appear on exams.
She is so strict on attendance and camera on it becomes rude. She records lectures but not for her students. She the least understanding when it comes to extensions, personal problems, grades, exams and more. All she cares about is her class and if you act like u care about her class, oh then she will like u. Seems to only like certain types too
She really cares about students, but I think she struggled to adapt to online learning. Lectures weren't great and you can tell she didn't like things being online. Homeworks are easy but there is a lot of stuff to memorize for exams which is probably why no one got full credits.
Misha is so incredibly sweet and you can tell she loves what she teaches. Her courses are very organized and she is fair.
Amazing professor. Highly recommend 110 if looking for an easy A. She is the reason I joined the CSD program. 10/10 recommend.
Misha is a great professor! She works hard to make sure her lectures are interesting and loves feedback. She also really cares about working with students to make sure they are doing their best and will look to help out in any way she can. She is also the faculty advisor for CSD and is always available to help answer questions about grad school
