Prof Wagner's lectures are really engaging and interesting as he uses his own research in his class. The class can get political because of this, but he keeps a very unbias view when explaining different sides. The readings are sometimes lengthy but should be read, because you are expected to give two speeches in section based off of them.

Professor Wagner made a great well-rounded class with fair grades and expectations on work. That being said he on multiple occasions told students angrily to "shut up" in lecture. Overall, he was fantastic lecturer, and I understand managing a class for underclassmen can be frustrating, but how he addressed students in lecture felt unprofessional.

I took professor Wanger for J201 and if I wasn't already sure I wanted to do journalism, he was the nail in the coffin. Incredibly charismatic person and amazing, engaging lecturer

prowag is a funny and engaging lecturer. He made the material interesting, and other lecturers no doubt would have made it a snooze fest. He is also very well accredited and generally an obvious expert on the material, so he can talk in-depth and answer further questions well.

Prof. Wagner is literally the best. Very encouraging and kind, yet also down-to-business and knowledgeable. I highly encourage you take any course you can with Prof. Wagner.

Pro Wag made me fall in love with Journalism, and now I'm in the school and loving it. He has a positive energy as a professor, and made 9am lecture enjoyable and enlightening. Taking 201 with him freshman year pushed my boundaries in the best ways. Discussions were stressful, but that's due to our TA...Highly recommend taking Pro Wag's classes :)

Great guy, very understanding about personal challenges and accommodates well to them. Didn't watch many of the lectures and never got below a B on the midterm/final. Very interesting class

Professor Wagner's class is very interesting, and the explanation of the concept is also very in-depth. Even if you can't understand some part of the lecture due to language problems, the Slides used in the lecture will clearly show the core content of this lesson.

Prof. Wagner is humorous and knowledgeable! It's easy to follow his lectures and he tried his best to make lec engaging.

Prof. Wagner was an amazing teacher. His lecturers were engaging and if you had an issue he was very accommodating. I took him for Journalism 201 and the class definitely was a lot of work but Wagner made the class seem like it wasn't. Would definitely have him again as a Prof. if given the chance.

Great professor and great class.

Loved this class! Most lectures were posted on the course Canvas site afterwards if you miss class. Professor Wagner was funny, knowledgeable, and easy to keep up with in lectures. Personally, my discussion section was very chill and the supportive environment made it easy to participate! The media analysis essays were the hardest, but not too bad.

Overall, a pretty fun and easy class if you enjoy writing even a little bit. Wagner is a great lecturer and the class structure is pretty simple and organized. Weekly Twitter discussions and an occasional paper. My TA was a bit of a tough grader, but overall it isn't hard to get an A in this class.

The content is really simple but boring at times. The assignments are pretty easy and you get an opportunity to be creative. The only thing is that expectations are pretty high for the two longer essays. Prof Wanger is really engaging and funny. I have a B+ and skipped most of the Friday morning lectures. Inspired me to apply to JSchool!!

One of my favorite professors! He is super funny and really cares about his students and their well-being. Explains hard concepts with ease and makes typically boring content super interesting! Lectures sometimes drag and the weekly readings are not necessary to succeed but the assignments are spread out and pretty easy!

Professor Wagner is great and so are his TA's. Lectures can be pretty boring sometimes but the discussion sections are interesting. There are some really interesting lectures but overall the lectures are intro level so they are pretty self explanatory. Professor Wagner always makes me laugh and loves what he does. I enjoyed the class 9.4/10

Prof Wagner is the best! He is always prepared, knowledgable on the material, and very passionate about his job. I sadly only got to experience him online, but he was a joy to listen to. He combines a lot of fun activities in lectures like videos, quotes, etc. I would love to have him in person!

Has really great energy and is really good at connecting with students. However, lectures do drag on sometimes.

Hes just got such a good energy and has a great way of explaining complicated theories in an easy to understand way.

Professor Wagner is one of the best professor Ive had since attending school. Very helpful in and outside of class. His lectures are engaging and not dry at all. My only negative would be he does of a poli-sci background so he does tend to focus heavy more on that topic when it comes to using examples, which I felt got repetitive after a while.

Professor Wagner was a great and interesting lecturer. He is passionate about the content and presents it in a clear and often fun way. His class always went by fast and was enjoyable. The course itself is very fun as well. I would highly recommend Professor Wagner!

Your grade really depends on your TA as they have to do most of the grading. Lectures aren't mandatory and as long as you go to most and read the powerpoint notes he posts you will do fine on the exam.

I love ProWag. As someone who has a hard time focusing, the fact that I could pay attention to every word of his lecture says a lot. If you have even the slightest interest in journalism, take J201. Didnt love discussion section and the whole TA thing but thats unavoidable at UW. Totally worth it.

Journalism 201 was an enjoyable course to take. In a class of over 300, Professor Wagner makes it feel like a class of 20. He incorporates humor into his intriguing lectures, and he makes learning fun. However, J201 is a time-consuming course! It is not extremely difficult, but you definitely have build in time for the readings and papers.

Great guy and interesting lectures. Decent amount of reading and writing but not very difficult!

The class was not that tough overall. Prof Wagner is funny and makes the course content interesting. We had to write 4 short papers and two longer papers. Plus a midterm and final that was basically a midterm

Professor Wagner is awesome. His lectures are super interesting and go really fast. There is a significant amount of writing (it is a Com B course) but he gives so many opportunities for extra credit. One of my favorite professors.

Took his class as a part of Religion in the News FIG, and even though I don't want to go into Journalism, I really hope that I find another professor like this! Your class grade depends on your TA, but go to lecture as much as you can. His tests are straight forward and multiple choice is EASY if you go to class/pay attention. Take this class!

Wagner is an incredible professor who cares about his students. He genuinely wants to help and get to know the students in his class. He's also super educated and uses his own journalism background to offer advice an insight. Would definitely take a class with him again!

J202 is a lot of work. Quiz in every lecture (super easy though). This class is more lab-oriented. Time management is key. None of the assignments are particularly difficult, but there are a ton of them. Make sure you stay on top and ahead of everything and you should be able to earn an A

I loved the class by this professor. Really great

Mike is a great professor, and although J202 is a ton of work you will learn so much. He cares about his students and makes himself very available. Also funny and laid-back. All around great prof, take him if you can!

Perhaps the best professor I've had at UW-Madison. Caring, charismatic, funny, motivational. He's a great guy and a great professor. Warning, J202 is NOT easy, you will have to work, but its generally fun interactive work. I was worried about having two 3 hour labs a week, but our lab became best friends quickily. Favorite class at UW.
