Michael is very kind and responsive. He is very accommodating. The class is all based one one group project. Some of the deadlines are unclear and the project is sometimes just busywork but overall an easy class. You can learn if you choose to.
Michael is a fine teacher. There are a lot of random deadlines and rubrics for grading are not clear. The course itself is not difficult.
Professor Maguire is one of the most kind and understanding professors I have ever had. He is approachable, friendly, and accommodating. He clearly cares about his students and is a genuinely good person. The coursework is pretty straightforward and not too difficult. I highly recommend this class, especially if you need a CSCS for a SoHE major.
It's not hard to do well, just show up and do the work that's expected. Pretty straightforward!
So kind and helpful outside of class, lots of writing but very easy assignments. Very vague on assignments and not much material to learn in the online format so I struggled to know what to write about. Would def take another class again but would want it in person. Easy to get a good grade, very understanding Professor if you need an exception
Professor Maguire cares a lot but this class was very frustrating online. There are a lot of looming deadlines, big projects/papers, and a lot of writing to do. We only had a few mandatory class sessions and making the class asynchronous was not a good idea. I do not recommend taking this class if you are not a CNPL major.
I love Michael as a person and professor. My only complaints are that he is a slow grader and with the change to online (corona) I hate the class now. It has become a chore and feels like we aren't learning anything. I understand it is not his fault because of the situation but he is definitely better in person than online.
Michael is the best prof I've ever had. He is a such a sweet guy and a nice grader. Lots of papers, but they're all easy and interesting. Probably the best ComB class on campus. He also gives excused absences for sickness and for when you go out of town bc he is very understanding. Class is very interesting and discussion heavy. Sit at a good table
Super caring and inspiring professor! Very few assignments and grades them very favorably!
Michael is very kind to and accommodating of his students, but his classes are just so easy that I often don't learn much of anything! You don't really need to do the readings, except to use some examples in your papers. I was often so bored that I didn't feel the need to come to class. Just about everyone in class didn't care about it.
Michael is always willing to help students outside of class with career building advice. Legit left a panic voicemail and was able to meet with him in less than 12 hours to discuss internship offers. What a guy he is!
Michael is so caring. His teaching methods are engaging and if you listen and participate in class activities you will learn a lot. However, you learn more about life and kindness than academics in his classes. He truly cares and will do anything to help his students achieve their goals.
Not only is Michael a solid teacher, but he is an amazing person as well. He'll help you with career stuff (resumes, job applications, etc.) and just really cares that his students learn and do well, in college and after.
Michael has been my favorite professor at Madison over my four years here. He is not a tough grader, but he cares about his students and that they succeed more than any faculty I've ever met. His classic line is, "when you all graduate, and I know that you're all going to graduate..."
You won't learn much with Michael. He loves to talk and talk, and it get annoying. Unfortunately, his courses are not really at college level especially for UW. He is very boring, and students rarely get feedback on assignments. Overall, he just isn't what you expect at a top tier university.
