This professor was a very funny lecturer giving a bunch of puns laced between intense lectures. The coursework can be challenging, but rewarding.
Professor Morgan is one of the most intelligent people I've met. His material is difficult, but he cares about the success of his students and puts in the time to make sure you understand the materials if you make the effort to ask. His lectures are filled with dense concepts, but he explains them well (plus adds nerdy puns/jokes to break them up)
He's a good professor. This is my field of study so this introductory course was especially easy for me. You don't have to do much to pass.
Took during Fall '15. Morgan is very educated about his field and it's apparent in lectures. He goes over some pretty high-level concepts briefly without full explanation and seems more like a true scientist than professor. He offers extra credit which you must take advantage of. Study for exams and how all concepts/topics relate to each other
Morgan was confusing and gave difficult assignments, but my biggest issue with the course is the way the labs are organized. They do not correspond to the lectures. A series of TAs specializing in different topics rotate lab sections, resulting in a disjointed structure that isolates you from classmates and lecture materials. Very unhelpful!!
Interesting subject, but very dry when teaching. Through his years of experience though, he does have a lot of knowledge to share. He gives a bunch of opportunities for extra credit, especially at the end of the semester. I would recommend taking the discussion section with the class as well because it really helped
Pretty dry teaching style and not super interesting content. The lectures were boring, but the tests were decently easy. He offers extra credit, which is great!
Lectures are sometimes hard to follow
Horrible teacher. Worst class I have ever taken. The lecture are boring, he was gone for multiple weeks at a time, and the tests have nothing to do with his lectures. There were times where his TA taught when he was gone, and she no one in the class could understand her. I will be lucky to get a C in the class, STAY AWAY!
If you have the choice between 100 and 101, take 101 because the section is way more helpful than the lecture.
He automatically assumes that everyone is already on board with what he is "teaching". 100% accurate to state that he is too smart to teach this. He's not relatable or personable. Don't be fooled & think this is some interesting weather class. Its incredibly hard and has ruined my semester. It's basically a physics class. Expert does not teacher.
Very difficult professor. Once he actually begins lecture, he's so confusing! I honestly believe he is too smart to be teaching an entry level class; everything goes over your head if you do not have previous experience in an Atmospheric and Oceanic based class.
Professor Morgan is knowledgeable about what he does, but he is the worst teacher I have ever had. The lectures consist of map discussion, TopHat Questions, and PowerPoints. It is impossible to understand the topic because he doesn't explain anything. He basically flies through the slides (with little explanation) and expects us to understand.
If you take aos101 with Professor Morgan, you're going to have a bad time. Over half of the lectures are talking about weather maps, which isn't on any of the exams. His lectures are so unclear it leaves me questioning why I bother to show up, and just when I decide I should just not go to this class, he adds clicker questions. 11/10 would not go.
The lectures are completely scattered. It is so difficult to follow along. The exams have nothing to do with what you "learn" in class. Pointless to take this class if you are expecting to pass.
This class is awful. I thought it would be interesting and fun, BUT IT IS NOT. If you are thinking of taking this class, take it with another professor. His lectures are all over the place, half the time I have no idea what he is saying, and he assumes we are all genius' in the class. His tests aren't even logical either. AWFUL TEACHER. STAY AWAY.
Professor Morgan is a really smart guy who knows a lot about what he's teaching, but he is a HORRIBLE professor. His lectures are all over the place and you leave class every day wondering what you were even supposed to learn. He expects you to know the material instantly. This class was supposed to be an easy A but it has ruined my semester.
This class is not worth it. I took this class as part of my science credit requirements for my BA and was expecting something mildly interesting that wouldn't take too much time away from my major classes. I was wrong. Lectures are boring and unorganized. Discussion section is not well connected to lecture. Take Intro to Modern Physics instead
Lectures are unorganized and clear topics are not fully developed. He cares about map readings more than the class material. I thought this class would be really interesting but it is hard to focus at all in lecture.
worst class I've taken. Exams are online and super hard. Lectures are unclear, hard to follow and impossible to apply to exams. DONT TAKE
Came in thinking the class would be an easy A, came out scratching my head. He seems like a good guy and definitely knows his stuff, but lectures are all over the place. Exams are online, but quite difficult. I don't recommend unless you're genuinely interested in the subject.
TOO SMART TO TEACH. Took for easy A, but found myself in over my head. Very confusing, ambiguous lectures that are impossible to follow. Tests were very random and all based on his unorganized lectures becasue there is no book; thus tests were very hard. The TAs were out to get the students. He was a very nice and understanding person. DONT TAKE
The class definitely is not an easy A. But I think that was more of the course's fault, and not Morgan's. Everything for the course is essentially done online. He is very nice and friendly, and you can tell that he is very enthusiastic about the weather.
Worst professor I've had at UW. He says nothing of importance during lecture, so you always leave feeling like you learned nothing. Tests are impossible, since there's no textbook, everything on it is from his lectures, which make no sense. Powerpoints are useless too. This class with any other professor would actually be interesting. STAY AWAY!
Fear the man. Don't fear the reaper
Supposed to be an "easy A" class for a general requirement, but it ruined my GPA with a C. In lecture Prof. Morgan will be nice and answer questions in a friendly way, but don't try to contact him outside of class because he will not get back to you. Came across as rude. Would not recommend, take a different class for the requirement.
Do yourself a favor and don't take this class. Concepts are confusing and you are not taught how to apply them to the class or the questions that are asked on the exams. Nice guy not so good of a teacher.
People who rated professor anything higher than a 3 on these categories is obviously a TA. He is of no help to students, especially when wording the exam. Questions are vague and confusing. Never taught how to apply knowledge in the test setting, which caused lower test scores than anticipated every time an exam is taken.
Great professor!! I really liked him. You could tell that he had a lot of enthusiasm about what he was teaching. Take his class :]
Morgan is awesome! He makes his topics very interesting and applicable to real life. The class is not difficult at all. All the exams are online, so you can use your notes. Anyone that thinks that they're difficult should go back to high school. All the notes and lectures are posted online, so that makes it really easy to review for exams.
Awful....this class can possibly ruin your GPA if you are not a science person. The material on the exams are horrible. He will ask you to analyze maps. All the exams will be taken on online, and you can use your notes. But if you are not good at applications, you cannot score high.....
ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Absolutely abysmal. Avoid this professor, he is unorganized and impossible to get a hold of. He seems to put little effort into class. Lecture is confusing and boring.
Exams are not hard, but you always lose more points than you expected. Also, his lecture is extremely bored. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
He's a smart guy and has a dry sense of humor. Class is boring, but sometimes can be interesting, but the exams are pretty easy. I think it's worth taking if your looking to fulfill a science credit.
This was the most boring class I have ever taken. Coming into it I thought that might be semi-interesting but it is just impossible to pay attention.
Professor Morgan's a really nice guy and extremely bright, but he's an awful professor. The logical flow of his lectures ranges from slightly confusing to completely incoherent. He never seems to know what direction to take his own lecture. Confusing, boring and unorganized. My class did not respect him because of this. Should stick to research.
Terrible professor. Very slow to respond to emails, difficult to schedule appointments with. Horribly boring class. Takes it way too seriously for a 100 level class. MOST OF US DO NOT WANT TO BE A METEOROLOGISTS! Do NOT take this class.
Good teacher, all you need to do is show up to class. The exams are easy, all questions are taken from notes that he posts online. He also makes fun of his weight, which is funny.
He's really interested in what he's teaching even though everyone else is asleep. Nice guy, easy class, dont bother buying the "textbook" 'cause its worthless. All his notes are online so u can sleep in class (participation through handheld devices for a grade) and write notes at home if u want...
