I LOVED Prof Curtis. She is an amazing human, and so passionate about her work that she can make super boring policy stuff super interesting, and makes it matter to you. She is incredible, not enough of that can be said. The two exams are hard, but this class is worth it. The world would be a better place if more people took this class.

Starts every lecture asking "How are you?" Very passionate about her work. The class topic is dry, but lectures are straightforward and make sense. Lots of group work (not graded). Funny and cares a lot about her students. She loves teaching which makes it easier to learn the content. Very responsive to questions and incredibly kind. I loved her.

Class was dry and dragged on, and our only grades were 3 exams. I mostly just didn't like her, though. She was condescending, shouted at us, and stalked around the lecture hall, touching students without consent (grab shoulder, etc.). Also did not honor my McBurney accommodations and accused me of abusing them after missing one lecture with a note.

I loved Prof Curtis!! I did not do well in this class but I would still 100% take it again. She's so passionate about what she's teaching and I learned so much throughout the semester. Your grade is based on 3 exams which make it difficult, but the class is definitely worth taking!

Professor Curtis is AMAZING! She is interesting, articulate, and clearly very knowledgeable about the subject. However, if you do not actually major in Social Work (or something within the social sciences), I would not recommend taking this class. The exams are challenging and also very weighted, it was pretty difficult to get by personally.

Professor Curtis is an amazing lecturer and probably the best teacher someone interested in social work or policy could have. The class is graded on 2 exams, an essay, and attendance so it's fairly hard to get an A (9% will get an A according to Madgrades). I would still recommend the course though as it's informative and really engaging.

Curtis was a good prof however she kind of just rambled on many topics in lectures. Exams were hard and overall I struggled. It's not a class that I hate but she goes through everything super fast during lectures.

Curtis is so passionate and educated. She makes lectures interesting and is a talented speaker. I took this course as an elective and it widened my world perspective and political knowledge. I would recommend that anyone wanting to gain knowledge on the welfare system to take this class.

Marah Curtis is an AMZING professor. But I performed horribly in her class and I don't understand why. She is a very fast paced professor, passionate, fun and has great energy however her exams are very difficult. Maybe its just me but I spent hours and days studying for her exams and performed so bad in them, prepare for lots of reading and notes.

Graded on 3 things so don't make my mistake and not take something seriously, it's very manageable. Prof Curtis is INCREDIBLE, the most passionate teacher I've had, knows so much about her subject + has real world experience. Lectures were engaging, thought provoking + informative. She's an amazing, intelligent, exuberant professor.

Prof. Curtis is so freaking engaging you will never be bored in her class. She presents the material in such an interesting way and makes it all simple to understand! I feel like this class should be mandatory because it was all really important to know! Take her class! She assigns lots of readings but they're basically optional--not tested on

Professor Curtis is one of the most engaging professors I have had. If it weren't for her intriguing lectures I would have never discovered my passion for policy. She is extremely understanding and truly wants each of her students to exceed. I have yet to meet a professor as passionate about their work and teaching as Curtis. Definitely recommend.

I've never had a more passionate professor at this school! Curtis really cares about the subject matter and the students! She assigns a million readings but honestly, I only did the first 2 readings and I did fine so they really aren't important for the exams. The TAs are great as well and discussions are helpful and fun.

Curtis' grasp of the material and ability to deliver engaging lectures cannot be understated: she is stellar at both. I didn't find the class to be terribly difficult, though her tests are fair & she does a great job of helping you prepare for them. I've never had a professor who matches her enthusiasm & energy; she loves what she does & it shows!!

Marah Curtis is a good professor, but sometimes does not elaborate very clearly on course material. She is very willing to answer questions and make things clear if you ask. The course is very test heavy, as three tests are the only grades that go in.

Prof. Curtis was amazing! She had very engaging lectures that made me want to learn more about the material! Readings were long and boring, but supplemental and not tested on. Tests weren't super difficult if you paid attention in class most of the time.

I honestly cannot say enough about Professor Curtis! She is SO knowledgeable and easy to listen to. She is energetic when presenting material and makes you think about the policies/theories from multiple perspectives. Lots of readings, but they just supplemental and aren't tested on. First midterm is straightforward with a decent average. Love her!

I took her class on a whim, but ended up adding social work as a major largely because of this class. She presents the information in a way that keeps you engaged and makes you want to participate/ask questions. She keeps most of her opinions to herself, which I mostly like in a course, but will tell you more in her office hours. Highly Recommend!

Prof Curtis is good at her job. She makes the course about learning, and less about grades. She is clearly very passionate about social policy, which made me more interested. She runs around class a lot, but it's comical so it was fine. Her slides are a tad jumbled, but you're able to figure it out. There was 2 tests & 1 essay. Good class to take!

Professor Curtis is obviously passionate and educated on the material. She has lots of energy, she spends most of class walking or jogging around the class. The only flaw is that she is not great with technology, but she makes up for her in her friendly attitude and patience. Also, class is easy if you have previous government knowledge.

If I wasn't sure I wanted to be a Social Work major before, now there's no doubt. I loved this class and always left feeling (depressed because of our welfare state) but inspired to be a part of real change. She's hilarious, fashionable and incredibly engaging.

Can be rude to students, refuses to provide assistance when asked, makes students feel unworthy.

Prof. Curtis is an absolutely phenomenal instructor. Whether you have a previous interest in social policy or not, you will leave knowing so much more about it and being inspired to learn MORE because of her passion. Extremely intelligent and intriguing professor. Exams are very fair.

AMAZING PROFESSOR. AMAZING. I'd be lucky to grow up to be half of the women that she is. She is inspiring. In terms of the class, initially it is kind of intimidating, but she does a great job of making it clear what you need to know. Everything that she writes in red on her lecture slides (which she posts online) will be on the test.

Professor Curtis is PASSIONATE about social policy. She encouraged student participation, tied in current events to policy issues and attempted to show a few perspectives on a wide range of issues without sharing too much of her own. Highly recommend this course and this professor.

I had no interest in social policy as a social welfare prior to her course but now I am planning on working in social welfare and poverty policy. The most intelligent and impressive professor I've had, hands down.

Great class! You can tell that she is incredibly knowledgeable and excited about social policy. She teaches policy from a politically neutral stance, which is nice. Lectures are dense and you will learn a lot, but she gives very clear study guides so exams are pretty straightforward/easy. Three exams, one is take home.
