He's like the AI voice assistant on PDFs - literally reads straight from the textbook, only in a Russian accent. He's quite uninspiring and did not make this class enjoyable whatsoever. The class isn't too hard though tbh

Professor Feldman is definitely one of my favorite professors. He is so professional and most importantly a incredibly patient and nice instructor. He gave all the materials we need for exams. From lectures to homework to exams, everything so well organized.

One of the best professors I have had so far. Very patient in office hours. Explain everything you want over and over again. If you can take any analysis class (or calculus, differential equations) with Feldman, go for it. That's an excellent opportunity. However, 522 is a difficult class no matter who teach it based on my friends' opinions.

I've gone to two lectures all semester long. They are pointless and a waste of time, he goes over textbook examples without really explaining anything. You're better off just going over the textbook on your own, as the exams are very similar (if not completely based on) the examples and homework. Quizzes, however, are comically hard.

He has a thick accent. Not good at lecturing. You'll learn very little from lectures because writes exactly whats in the book on the board. like EXACTLY. Almost not worth going to lectures. The class over all isn't that hard, if you put in the work you'll get a decent grade.

Basically reads the textbook to you in a Russian accent

He faces the board when he teaches and even sitting in the front row I couldn't hear him. Not that I needed to because he just copied the textbook word for word. It's an easy class but as a professor Feldman is just not good. My TA was great which helped a lot, and exams are just like his past exams (which he gives you).

His lectures may be boring and hard to follow but at the end of the day, they taught me everything I needed to know for the exams. His exams are extremely similar to his past exams and what he goes over during the review lectures so getting a good grade is doable (his class was my first A in a college math class).

Feldman is highly intelligent and a decent professor; however, his Russian accent takes some time to get used to. He does use the textbook during lectures, but as the author this makes sense. Personally, lectures helped me, but I would have to say discussion was where most of the learning occurred. Tests are fair, grading is fair.

Lectures are somewhat pointless, but it helps to sit there and absorb the information before going to discussion. WES supplement helps a ton. Not a bad class if you practice problems as you go (worksheets), very fair grading.

The material is not too bad if you stay on top of your stuff. By that I mean go to office hours and pay attention during discussions. Homework isn't graded and the lectures are a huge waste of time. He is EXTREMELY difficult to understand and he has 2nd grade level handwriting. Don't go to lectures, but grind in discussion and office hours. gl

Feldman is a very intelligent professor. This being said his class can be very difficult because he has a very strong accent and his handwriting is pretty dreadful so lectures are pointless. The class itself however is easier than other sections, the tests are fairly easy and exactly like his old exams he sends out prior. Having a good TA helps.

Super easy class. Even though the class is not curved, once you do the past exams, you're good and can bag a A. His lectures are a waste of time though (literally a word for word copy of the textbook material), I only went so that I don't have an unproductive day.

Exams like practice exam, quizzes are hard (by TA), tests are fair yet still easy to loose points since one problem can be 25 points so one mistake can be -6 points. no curve no extra credit. didn't really focus well in class (too much talking, concentrating on every word he said got tiring). would take again since tests are fair yet better study.

Math 234 with Professor Feldman was pretty accessible - He makes it easy for hardworking students to succeed in the class, because many resources are available online. Previous exams are extremely helpful in preparing for the midterms, and discussions materials also come in handy.

His English isn't very good and he has a very thick Russian accent, so lectures are hard to follow. If you ask him a question, he might not understand what you're saying and give you an answer to something else. The homework was challenging, but he's a pretty fair grader, and the tests were a proper difficulty.

You do not need to go to class to pass this class. Feldman holds pages of the textbook and writes it down on the board word for word. The course is not curved, however, his exams are nearly identical from past exams. Toughest part of the course are the discussion exams. I would take again due to the easiness and accessibility of past exams.

Cons: Mikhail simply reads the textbook and puts it on the blackboard. He also does not curve the exams. Pros: All of his exams are exactly like his past exams. I highly recommend looking online for his practice exams and studying off of that, not the homework. Overall: I would take a math class with him again, simply because his exams are fair.

He reads right out of the textbook but highlights only the things we need to know so lectures are nice to go to. He has a thick accent which can take some getting used to but once you get past that it is good. His tests are very easy and straightforward.

Feldman teaches straight out of the book, he literally reads the pages during lecture. He has a really thick accent which is difficult to decipher. That being said the course is not that difficult and you can easily teach yourself the material. He gives no curve and each test is 20% of your grade.

BEWARE!! Feldman is a terrible professor. His lectures are pointless because he reads straight out of the book, but in an accent that is tough to understand. The TAs do an awesome job at teaching it and they're mostly from the US so it's much easier to understand. No curve, Hw optional, exams are fair and identical to old exams.

Feldman's lectures consist of him reading and writing the book almost word-for-word onto the board with a thick accent. However, his tests are straightforward and almost identical to the practice exams, so if you get a good TA or can teach yourself, you can still get a good grade in the class.

Feldman is a good lecturer as long as his accent doesn't bother you. He moves very quickly through the material so bring your Math 234 packet with to follow along and take notes. There is no curve, however he makes the exams very reasonable and all his practice tests are very similar to exams given. Do the homework or practice problems to pass.

Might be one of the worst lecturers at UW. Thick accent, just spends lecture lazily going through the textbook. No curve and grades are not posted until the class is over. However, tests are nearly identical to the quizzes/past exams. The problems are often simplified to make them easier. You can easily pass without ever going to lecture

Difficult to understand his accent at first. Writes everything up on the board which is easy to follow. Tests are very straightforward, there will be no surprises.

He is a funny guy, but not very helpful in lecture. If you read the material and understand it, you will be ok. The tests are straight-forward, easy but a bit long. I didn't show up for lectures, but discussions were very helpful. Remember to go to lecture the day before the test!

I can't understand Professor Feldman during lecture. He has a thick accent and goes over board problems in a hurry. Lectures are somewhat long and are nearly useless because all of the material he goes over in class in straight out of the book. If given a second chance, I'd take this class with a different professor.

Copies the textbook word for word onto the board, and his speech is partially comprehensible at its best. He has a VERY thick east European accent.

Worse teach ever.

Here's the deal. If you're half way decent at math and are able to learn it well on your own this is your class. His tests are very simplestraight forward, he holds a review lecture the day before the test and goes over most of the problems that will be on the test, and all his old tests can be found online.

His tests are easy as long as you read the book, attend the lectures and go to all of the review sections. His past exams are online and they are very helpful. Nothing awesome, but not as bad as it gets for math professors.

Impossible to understand in lecture. You're almost better off if you teach yourself straight outta the book. Tests are fair and straightforward, only 2 midterms and then a final. Homework isn't graded. A good TA helps a LOT!

Yes, he likes to take the book and uses it for 90% of the material. He also likes to explains more of the proofs of why things work. He is a very intelligent man if you ask questions at office hours. Took a week to get use to accent and a good TA helps. His test are not tricky or hard, the time to do it though it very short. Overall not the worst

Hes a joke, but exams are amazingly easy. Please take this guy. dont go for ANY of his lectures, except his exam review ones, and attend all discussions in the hope of exam giveaways, you are sure to get an A.

Lectures were useless because of his thick accent. Tests for the Spring 2015 semester were much harder than his previous semesters. No curve and homework isn't graded, but he's still probably the better of all the awful calc professors. Prepare to teach yourself the material and find the good TA.

When he says no curve he means no curve. At all costs take Math 234 with a different professor. If you fail the first test there is no hope in redeeming yourself. He literally said to me "I can't help you." He's useless. Get out now.

His tests aren't difficult which is nice, but lecture is pretty useless. You can learn everything right out of the book just by reading the blue boxes of information (I took the class before they switched to the packets).

Cant understand a word he said. Only reason you do well is if you get lucky enough to get a good ta. End up teaching yourself the material, not out of the question though.

He is a very boring professor but tells you exactly what you need to know.If you dont mind teaching yourself things out of the book then this class is fine. If you go to lecture only listen one he starts giving examples, these are exactly what will be on the tests. Not a great prof but an easy A or AB because he is very straightforward

Mikhail is hilarious, yes, but SO USELESS. I've stopped attending his lectures as his in-class examples are the ones in the textbook. His tests are almost identical to those in the past, which are all posted on the UW Math library page. Take him if you don't want to learn from lecture and would rather teach yourself.

If you want to learn the material from a professor do not take him, as he just reads out of the book. But he is so adorable and hilarious without knowing it that I enjoyed his class. I never went to lecture and easily got an A because his tests were a piece of cake.

Incomprehensibly russian, and his lectures consist of nothing but reading straight from the book and copying it on the board. Wouldn't recommend, but from what I've heard, the other 234 professors aren't much better.

He is little to no help in office hours, his accent creates a serious barrier for lecture comprehension, fortunatly his lecture is just a reading from the book. AVOID if not extremely strong in mathmatics. His tests are genuine and can be easily completed if you memorize formula processes. Should be replaced nothing personal.

Do not go to lecture. Easy tests. Mikhail is hilarious.

He is an awful teacher, can't understand him in class, and his examples are always the most basic he can give. I just used the book to teach myself and it worked out fine. His tests are very fair.

best professor forever!!!!!!

Pointless lecture. He is not helpful. Don't take this class.

Avoid taking classes with him. He's hard to understand. You will end up teaching yourself everything. Worst professor I have taken.

His lectures consist of copying the textbooks directly the the board and nothing else, so you learn just as much by not attending lecture and teaching yourself from the book. It's doable but not ideal obviously. Tests aren't too hard and his accent is not the end of the world either.

His accent is difficult to understand. Lectures are straight from the book. Focuses on tricky trig and algebra in grading exams (not actual course content). Makes understanding new material more difficult than it has to be.

Extremely difficult to understand. Essentially copies the book onto the board, but with bad handwriting. AVOID if possible unless you're okay with having to teach yourself nearly everything.

Not a very good professor. Smart guy, but was not a very good teacher at all. Just copied out of textbook to blackboard, and didn't explain that well. Never taking with him again.

I honestly made four minor mathematical errors the entire semester and dropped to an AB because of it. The grading is just dumb. He is impossible to understand, teaches straight from the text, and is disappointed if you show up for office hours. However he is a very very very easy professor.

People make him out way worse than he is. Exams are extremely fair and every question on the exam is exactly identical to a homework problem. Recommend skipping classes and just read/understand textbook. He is very hard to follow though.

Mikhail Feldman is an awesome, down to earth, great guy! He has a cool accent that you get used to very quickly, and he conveys the concepts as well as any other math teacher I've had at Madison, let's be honest, a great deal of the math here is self-taught. He's a good teacher, grades very fairly and I'm happy to have had him for two semesters.

He taught lecture almost straight out of the textbook. If you can understand the approach the textbook takes, then you can understand lecture just fine. Midterms did not involve much creativity. Use techniques from the homework and you were fine.

Where do I begin.. Foreign. He just copies the book on the board in lecture, but you can't understand him. Midterms are fairly straightforward, but he claims to not curve the class. So...yeah. Worst professor I've had at the UW, but my grade should be fine. Make of that what you will, and good luck...

A difficult professor. He is incomprehensible and entirely boring, but his exams are fair (though the final is very tricky). You need a good TA for this class, and need to be on top of the game. Lectures are tough, but if you slip, go to them. Or spend the time reading. As always, don't take 221 here at Madison unless you've done it before.

WOrst professor by FAR! You cant understand him, His russian accent gives you the worst headache. He does not grade on a curve, and gives the hardest exams. You can barely read his writing on the board, or understand him at all. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!

Worst teacher ever, doesn't grade on a curve, ridiculous and incomprehensible russian accent, unbelievably boring lectures, don't ever take class with Feldman!

Avoid if possible!!!

hard to understand, says he doesn't curve

His lecture notes are literally photocopies of the textbook. Lectures not engaging at all. However, his exams are EXTREMELY fair, and, even though he says that there is no curve, he will most likely curve after all grades are collected. Just hang in there, and you should be fine.

AWFUL! I can't understand a word he says. I've never taken calc before and it's impossible to learn from him. Everything is right out of the book and he just reads it to you. His examples, also from the book, aren't clearly presented and his accent is horrible. Never take a class from him. Ever.

he sucks! horrible and yes his lecture notes are straight from the textbook. Better to teach yourself than to waste your time on going to lecture.

HORRIBLE. Incomprehensible accent. I'm not sure why he is teaching--he sucks at it! Lecture cosists of example problems straight from the book. Cannot communicate in English. I teach myself everything and skip lecture. Basic tests but a very hard grading scale (not curved). AVOID or hope for a great TA (like I had).

I cannot understand him at all, this class is impossible!

He says he doesn't curve, but I got a D on each midterm and somehow ended up with an AB in the class. I did go to my TA's offic hours every week and studied hard for the final. Even so, it would have been impossible for me to get the grade I did without a curve.

Poor lecturer. Thick accent, and reads directly from the book. Seems as though the majority of his time is doing useless proofs. However, very easy tests, so all in all not too bad.

Avoid taking Feldman. The class is extremelly boring. Examples are straight from the book yet he still messes them up. He has a heavy Russian accent but talks with a squeeky high voice. Tests are fairly straight forward but it is near impossible to get an A since the class is not curved.

if you want to learn another language, just go to take his class. he does not teach math in English !! you will know what i am talking about when you take his class

His teaching is not really teaching... It is more like him going up to the board and mumbling for an hour... It makes zero sense. So far teaching myself has worked pretty well, but I cannot stress enough that his class is to be avoided at all costs!

Terrible. I learn better by sitting on my couch watching sportscenter while reading my math book than actually attending class and taking notes. I usually try to go to lectures once a week(out of 2) but even that is difficult. I can't understand a word he says.

Preferable to find someone else. Lectures were okay, but he would make tons of mistakes. Often he doesn't understand questions, sometimes doesn't let you finish asking before he answers (not even addressing your question). Material is quite difficult, his teaching isn't good. Funny accent though, kept me amused (he randomly says words high pitched)

Poor lecturer, I only attended out of guilt. His writing is small/indecipherable and he moves at a very quick pace. Exams were very fair and relatively easy. You will learn only from the book and TAs. Not nearly as good as Viaklovsky, who guest lectured. Gets too impatient to be helpful in office hours, but tries his best. Loves Alligators.

Feldman isn't a great teacher. He's got an accent, but it's not too bad. Everything is straight from the book. Tests are much easier than homework, so if you can do the homework, you're fine. If you have to take 319, you'll be fine with him, but class is extremely boring.

He as a pretty thick accent and can be hard to understand at times. His lectures can drag on and he does them almost straight from the book. Tests were pretty straight forward and not hard at all. Course gets a bit tougher towards the end, but a B is pretty easily attainable. Do the homework and you'll be fine.

He has a thick accent so it is kind of hard to understand him. His lectures are based on the book. His examples come from the book. So make sure you study from the book. His exams are very straight forward and are actually kind of easy. Decent professor. Had better, but definitely had worse.

Feldman is deathly boring, monotone, and mumbles most everything. He only does examples straight from the book and gets half of them wrong anywase. Sitting in his lecture is worse than needles in the eyes. I love math and am an A student. Feldman is terrible, stay away

Feldman can't teach. People who do well in his class learned the material from the textbook or other sources, but NOT from him! He can't answer your questions or explain things simply. His grading is unfair. His lectures are copying the textbook onto the chalkboard line by line... while making mistakes! I wish I hadn't taken math with him.

This professor is unclear and cannot understand questions (although that doesn't prevent him from pretending to answer). His lecture notes are literally photocopies of the book, and still he sometimes makes mistakes. Unhelpful in office hours. Rudin (the text) is fine but he doesn't TEACH it at all. Stay away.

The class seems pretty easy after coming from the hell that is Math 222. He has easy tests, but don't underestimate them and make sure you still study for them. Oh, and go to discussion. He has a thick accent, but you get used to it... He's one of the better math professors.

the tests were surprisingly easy (compared to other math classes) - the averages are around 70-75 with no curve.. discussion is curved, quizes every other week.. he sticks VERY close to the book in lectures and tests, so STUDY BOOK PROBLEMS.. he is not a great teacher, but he is better than most in his department.. the class is kinda hard for 3 crd

Lectures were rather dull. Easy exams. Good professor if you want an easy A.

Lecture was kinda useless until the midterm/final reviews. Go to those and take perfect notes, because it's basically the exam in a nutshell.

No point in taking notes in lecture!! All he does is write examples on the board, and they are straight from the text. His accent is somewhat strong, but you get used to it. Don't get to use anything on exams, but they aren't to hard.

russian accent, not out of control. spends lots of time on proofs, good conceptual lecturer on actual examples. fair exams, no graphing calculators. hw is graded. this course has some weird concepts, it's more about your ability to understand what he's showing you than his ability to show it to you. i stopped going to lecture, easy course to grasp.

Boring teacher. Tried my best to stay awake in lecture. No originality in teaching - just reads from the text or notes. Easy tests though.

very very easy class

I couldn't understand a word he said, and if anything else, he made the class mor confusing. I ended up teaching myself most of the material out of the book.
