not even close. Was a philosophy major before this class, a calc major now. If her section is open TAKE THIS CLASS. Take it twice if you can. Lectures are incredibly thoughtful, efficient, and inspirational. Finds a way to make exams enjoyable and challenging at the same time. LOVE HER.","source_url":"https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/1855980","quality_rating":5,"difficulty_rating":1},{"observed_at":"2026-09-07 16:19:00.331468+00:00","run_id":"20260907T155543-ce3781c4","source_review_id":"UmF0aW5nLTIzNjU3MDI3","source_instructor_id":"rmp:1855980","instructor_name":"Melanie Wood","course_label":"MATH490","course_id":"MATH 490","course_uid":"course_b151d42dad875eb5e7e721b9","review_date":"2014-10-15 05:31:10 +0000 UTC","comment":"She is a good teacher but may be harsh for lower-lever materials. Stopped going to lecture halfway through the semester because she is about as useful an instructor as a potted plant. Clearly intelligent, might be good in an upper level math class with few students. Barring that, AVOID. Teaches computations, tests theory.","source_url":"https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/1855980","quality_rating":1,"difficulty_rating":3},{"observed_at":"2026-09-07 16:19:00.331468+00:00","run_id":"20260907T155543-ce3781c4","source_review_id":"UmF0aW5nLTIzMjQ2Njgz","source_instructor_id":"rmp:1855980","instructor_name":"Melanie Wood","course_label":"MATH222","course_id":"MATH 222","course_uid":"course_6bc496e4640fd08f71e1b041","review_date":"2014-05-14 14:54:26 +0000 UTC","comment":"I once counted the number of times Melanie said \"Um\" and had to flip the page after a nice, hefty tally of 171 um's in 30 minutes.
