Very respectful to students and does his best to make sure you understand the material. Cold calls in class sometimes but will help you through it if you don't know the answer. Very transparent about expectations.

He tries to be funny, and has an unintelligent sense of sarcasm. But he is extremely narcissistic. He loves controlling people under him. There is no kindness and empathy in him. He treats students with different standard and he puts some personalities down. You know what I mean. I have seen and heard about him mistreating students many times.

Very bald indeed

Surprisingly chill, a fan of sarcasm, very inspirational if you'd like to have a conversation with him. Hasn't found the best way to teach 115 but the teaching wasn't bad; posts lecture notes which help exam preparation a lot; accessible in OH; encourages questions in class; kind in exam grading. Abt 115: insane workload, you have to do everything

Marty encourages questions and participation to make sure the material is being understood. The exams were never too difficult, and they were usually very similar to the practice exams. He wants everyone to succeed and shows a true passion for what he is teaching. The workload was a lot but he was very accessible if anyone ever needed help.

Zanni seems like a great guy, pretty accessible outside of class, but lacked empathy and patience and taught very quickly for what was supposed to be an entry-level course. Chem103 is definitely a "weeding-out" class. I went to tutoring regularly and attended each lecture/lab and managed to pass, but I wish I had taken AP Chem.

Marty is an amazing professor. He's always there to help his students in and outside of class. His passion for the topic is displayed throughout lectures (which helps when they get really confusing). Be ready to spend hours a week with each other and plan on working very hard. Very difficult concepts (for a freshman course) but worth it.

Marty is a real gem. The course material is insanely difficult (for a freshman course), and you will spend many hours on it every week, but Marty creates a class atmosphere that helps you through the tough times. Your grade only depends on how other students do, so keep up with the average and you're guaranteed at least a B.

I loved having Marty for my first college chem class! His lectures were interesting and you could tell that he was passionate about what he was teaching. Yes, chemistry is a hard class & you need to work to do well, but I felt like he was teaching so that everyone could grasp the material, not just memorize this for the test. Highly recommend!

Wasn't a huge fan of prof Zanni's. He goes through content way too fast in lecture and doesn't answer questions very well. Was going to rate him a 2/5 but he compensates for bad lectures in office hours where he is very straight forward and gives you hints for exams. He's pretty funny but also kind of pretentious

Marty was a fun guy, but I did not like his teaching style. He mostly just buzzed through things without explanation.

After completing gen chem and organic chem, I can confidently say Zanni was the best professor out of all of them. He has great energy that keeps the class interesting, appreciate how he makes lecture worthwhile by not reiterating the book. Yes the class is challenging, but that's just how chem is. Exams were always very fair, timing is everything.

Marty is a very energetic professor and is very passionate about teaching chemistry. He always makes lectures interesting and it is very hard to get less than a 100 on Top Hat questions. I highly recommend him and I would've loved to have him for Chem 104 as well.

Chem 103 with Marty was awesome! Every Chem 103 class uses TopHat but he makes sure to take the time to explain and go over each question in detail. He was super interesting to listen to that he held my attention the whole time. His exams are the most challenging out of all the sections but GO TO OFFICE HOURS it really helps with the exams!!

He is a great teacher who loves the subject matter almost as much as he loves teaching. He has countless achievements and is a kind, caring, and intelligent person. It is a hard class, but he makes it easier with his great teaching.

I would absolutely take Chem 103 with Marty again. He really cares about chemistry and wants his students to be successful. You can talk to him after class for quick clarifications on the lecture, which was nice. Having him for my first semester in college was great!!

Marty made lectures interesting and made it easy to pay attention. Marty was very informative and worked hard to make sure his students understood the material. Would HIGHLY recommend.

I really liked Marty as a chemistry professor and lecturer. Yes, the class was challenging, but Marty made it so students that work hard and show up pass. Hes very helpful in office hours, and it seems like he genuinely cares about his students and their future. Funny guy and very laid back.

Marty is hilarious in class and is honestly the only reason I go to lectures anymore. I really don't like chemistry, but he explains everything very clearly and is hilarious. Fun Fact: this semester in my class he gave some people who answered his questions the chance to drive his Tesla

Marty is one of my favorite professors so far. He made lectures engaging and entertaining even though I am not the biggest fan of chemistry. I enjoyed attending his classes. He is down to earth and enthusiastic about his material while teaching it in a understandable way. 10/10. Love you Marty.

Zanni is a very charismatic and caring professor. He tries to make lectures engaging and helps present difficult topics seen in the textbook in a concise and understandable manner. If you go to class early and sit in one of the front seats, he likes to come up and chat with you too. I definitely recommend him as a lecturer.

Definitely the best professor I've ever had. Yes, you have to work hard, and go to class! You definitely need to go to class, but he's so interesting to listen to that your attention is always there. Go to office hours too! He really cares about every student. If you go to office hours, you'll find that some of his exam questions come from them.

Although some days toward the end of the semester he would go too fast and kind of skip over stuff in lecture, I liked him overall. He's so funny and laid back but you have to pay close attention the entire class or you'll be lost.

Zanni is really funny and engaging, his hour and fifteen minute lectures weren't bad to sit through. His tests are hard though so you have to study, the average is always pretty low though so don't panic if you get a 65. He gives a generous curve and always makes sure that 22% of the class got an A. I would take him again for chem 104 if I could.

I found Zanni to be a good professor for a poorly structured class. He's energetic and fun to listen to in lecture, but Chemistry 103 is expected to cover a lot of information with not a lot of time to do it. I thought his tests were somewhat tough but if you prepared you could do well. Zanni was helpful to go to in office hours too.

Honestly Chem is a hard class so I expected to have a challenging time taking this course. However, his tests were just horrible towards the end of the semester. My TA was also terrible so maybe if you have a good TA you will do fine. I, on the other hand, was on the struggle bus the entire semester and dont wish it upon anybody.

Zanni was okay - he's entertaining enough in class and seems approachable, but he speeds through content and does not cover many subjects in depth. His exams are also really hard - his questions are usually very specific and less about testing overall concepts, so the class averages are usually low (in the 60-70 range). Read the textbook! It helps.

lecture is a spectacle of a man who goes through the motions, transparently yearning to be somewhere elsethe lab, or perhaps home. your education is a chore to martin. it's what's between work and dinner. learn to fall out of the habit of thinking professors have the capacity to care. teach yourself. be your own instructor. give yourself 5 stars.

Professor Zanni has a radiant personality and a passion for chemistry that is evident as soon as you walk into his lectures. He answered questions frequently and always tried his best to get the class to engage in his lectures. His exams were challenging and most of the class averages ranged from 60-70 across the three exams.

Overall easy class, fun professor, showed up did minimum work and got an A.

He's a fine professor, you can definitely tell he thinks up jokes that he thinks college students would like ahead of time (basically just pointed jokes about anything with the letter 'D' in it). Make sure to print off the powerpoint guides for class, it'll make studying much easier in the end. Everything you need to know is there.

I do not have words. The lectures weren't helpful for me at all, and I ended up having to teach myself everything.

Zanni is an alright professor in lecture, but he goes very fast in order to fit all of the material in and diesn't really dive into topics that much. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He is so helpful in office hours and helps you to understand the material. Plus he's a pretty cool guy.

Zanni is super funny and makes class really fun. If you do the work you're assigned and actually read the textbook and study you'll do fine in the class. His exams focus on specific concepts from lecture, so if you don't go to lecture you'll miss out.

Dr. Zanni is a really great, caring, funny guy. Chemistry is going to be difficult, but at least Dr. Zanni makes his lectures interesting and interactive. Just be aware that there will be a curve, but it is difficult to get the grade you want.

Zanni is a pretty good professor - he's passionate and always excited about chemistry. However, when it gets to the exams, he generally likes to focus half the exam (usually the short answers) on less dominant concepts of the modules/topics learned, which is frustrating. That makes the class harder, and it's hard to utilize the end of sem curve.

Zanni is hilarious and lecture is always fun. The exams are pretty tough, but if you prepare well you'll be fine. He does move super fast in lecture and things can get really confusing, lots of info to cover in not enough time. Overall the class is a lot of work but Zanni made it somewhat enjoyable.

It is very clear that Zanni is enthusiastic about chemistry, but he's not the best teacher. He moves very quickly through the slides, and sometimes he'll even skip some of the slides and tell you to do it yourself. Tests are very difficult, and the homework takes a lot of time. Print out the slides otherwise it will be extremely hard to keep up.

He is super energetic and makes lecture easy to follow. Sometimes he goes a little quick, so being prepared for class is definitely a must in order to follow along and get something out of it.

I loved taking chemistry with Professor Zanni. He genuinely cares about every student's success. As long as you read and listen during lecture, you'll do well.

Makes lecture interesting. Nice, funny guy.

Zanni is a pretty standard teacher, pretty funny and mostly prepared. Overall, I'd say that he's super super average, but there is nothing to be afraid of. He's a nice dude.

He is very passionate about chemistry and makes you interested in the material and what he is saying in lecture. A bit tough on the tests, but definitely passable with the curve!

Professor Zanni is a very energetic professor. Lectures aren't boring, he purposely has many demos, and gives time to asks questions. Tests are pretty challenging but gives good practice exams.

Prof. Zanni, or Marty (like he told us we could use) is an amazing lecturer. Tests lined up with lectures almost perfectly and his teaching was very easy to follow. Definitely would recommend.

Great professor

Zanni made lecture palatable, if not enjoyable. He mixed in an excessive amount of demos that were fun, but not always relevant or useful. Tests were difficult if you generally struggle with chemistry like I do. The curve is difficult to take advantage of and basically is determined by exams.

Lectures are very interesting. Tests are hard and the final in the class was harder than all of the tough problems that we were tested on in the midterms. He loves doing demos in lecture. Will make you clap for Jim. Sometimes goes by Marty.

Zanni is an amazing lecturer. He really makes an effort to make sure that students understand complex concepts. Definitely had to study for the tests to do well on them, he let us have a 4inx6in note card on each exam. A lot of the concepts from the clicker questions ended up on the exams. Need to read the book to get a thorough understanding.

Zanni clearly knows his stuff, and he is very organized. However, I believe he could do a better job of conveying the material in a more understandable way. The tests are pretty difficult; make sure you don't only do practice exams. You're gonna have to work hard and consistently for it, but it is a reachable A/B / A if you put in the time.

Somewhat difficult professor. Gives 3 midterms and a final that aren't curved in a normal way and class averages were often in the 60% range. Practice exams are NOT like the exams which is really annoying. Covered some topics extremely specifically and some not at all. Very intelligent, likes to talk about his successes. Energetic lectures.

Lectures are confusing. Homework take a lot of time. Labs are very fast-paced. Exams are hard and do not follow a pattern.

Zanni is a really good lecturer and puts a lot of minor topics on his exams. Pay attention to the clicker questions too, those will be on the final exam.

Tests are really tough and some material is confusing. Easy to pay attention to.

Martin Zanni was a great professor. Gave very enthusiastic and energetic lectures, and helped to make sure we understood the material. Exams are tough but a curve will be applied.

Really great lecturer who is energetic and cares a lot about the students. Does a lot of demos and generally makes all of the content really interesting and fun. I was never bored once in lecture. Exams are tough but his final curve was really in the student's favor and overall everybody did well.

Zanni was hilarious and a really energetic lecturer. I never felt like I was going to fall asleep or anything! Really cares about students and gave higher grades than the syllabus promised at the beginning. Tests require lots of studying and a deep understanding of the concepts but they're doable. Would most likely take a class with Zanni again.

He makes class extremely fun and interesting with all the demos and everything. Would definitely take this class again! Don't ever make the mistake of missing classes though, he often teaches stuff that hasn't even been mentioned in the book so it gets hard to catch up later on.

Martin Zanni is a boss. Great lecturer, with fair tests. Its tough, but it's chemistry, so if it wasn't tough I'd be worried. Most of the material on tests is gone over in lecture. He is a great, energetic professor. Final even had a couple questions that were the exact same from the midterms. Take Zanni for chemistry.

Zanni was an awesome professor I highly recommend him. He kept his lectures interesting and moved through the material at a good speed. I thought all of the exams were straightforward and fair. He gives a decent amount of practice material you can use to prepare for the exams as well. Also, his curve is really generous which is a major plus.

He was a good lecturer compared to other chem 103. He was really nice about the grading curve at the end. TAKE HIM FOR CHEM 103.

He seems to love what he does and lectures were worth attending (even though showing up was mandatory since he took attendance by using iClicker). I thought the tests were pretty fair, but he did usually throw a trick question or two in each one. I read the book, so it helps clear things up, but not required if you don't have that kind of time.

Good teacher. If I had to take Chem 103 again I would definitely pick him as my teacher. He is funny and relatable and actually makes lecture fun.

Really smart profe. almost too smart, beware of his testing as it will contain lots of deep conceptual questions that you have to think outside the box twice for. His stuff is nice for review, especially if you screw up, you can learn for the final by figuring out what he wants you to know at the end of the day.

I loved chemistry with Professor Zanni, it was definitely one of my favorite classes of the semester. It was his first time teaching general chemistry so I was really surprised by how organized the class was for the most part. Every once in a while a test would have a really tough problem, but overall it was a very fair class.

Zanni is a great guy. He tries to be very enthusiastic and is actually pretty funny. He seems very approachable and will help in any areas of confusion. Sometimes he's not the most clear and moves on very fast without explaining something fully. The tests can be pretty difficult with averages of 60% or lower.

Prof Zanni is an amazing professor for Chem! However, he does go fast at times and his tests are difficult. You have to study hard to do well on the exams. He's very funny and makes lectures very entertaining. I'd definitely choose Zanni again. If you put effort you'll do well!

Professor Zanni is a great guy with a passion for Chemistry. He loves his job and it shows. If you print out the slide notes prior to lecture, take notes and follow along, you will do great. Make sure to show up to class, because the i-Clicker questions will bite you in the butt. Great professor, learned a lot.

He is an amazing professor, his class is pretty hard but if you put in sincere effort you are guaranteed an A.

He is a very funny guy who, if you attend lectures, can really help to clarify the readings assigned. Going to his office hours is greatly appreciated and helpful!

The tests are mostly covered in lecture. He does go through material kind of quickly and sometimes sparatically, so reading the textbook is helpful when trying to gain a clearer understanding on the material. He always gives a practice test which is very similar to the actual exam, however the tests are still hard - at least my class was curved.

His lectures were entertaining and participation was is from clicker quizzes.

Tough class, but Zanni makes his lectures interesting with lots of demos and jokes. If you put a lot of work in and get a good TA you will do fine.

Great teacher always prepared! Best lab demonstration he is clever never fails to make you engaged. Solid tests and fun lecture very clear to understand.

This guy really seems to love what he does. Used lots of demos to keep lecture interesting, and went through examples clearly. His tests were fair, and I never doubted that he had a firm grasp of the material.

Great professor, lectures are very interesting. Sit near the front and answer questions--he'll love it.

Zanni was a great lecturer, did great demos, but the other 109 profs subbed a few times and they were just as good. But I strongly advise against taking 109. Exams were tough and it was an EXTREMELY time consuming class. All my free time was spent doing chem. Do yourself a favor, take 103 and 104 instead.

He's a good guy. Really fun, does a great job keeping lectures interesting (w/ demos). Read the material before lecture, and you're pretty much getting an hour to study and make sure you know the material. Check out Challenge questions, practice exams, practice Q's, and maybe you will have a chance on the real exams!

Goes through material very fast. Attending lecture isn't a must, but make sure you get a decent TA, because your labs could kill your easy A-AB. The class isn't that bad, but if you can, pick a different 109 professor.

Read the textbook sections before you go to lecture so you understand what is going on. The demos are great, but the class can get boring, so make sure you have a friend in the class in case you fall asleep...

In my opinion it doesn't really matter which 109 professor you get. They're all really cool people and are great at teaching. Tough class overall, exams are hard but demos are fun to watch. A good TA is nice, but not necessary because Zanni does a good job.

Moves very very quickly in lecture. Exams are pretty hard. If you don't have LOTS of time to give this course (which I didn't really...) don't take it.

decent professor...goes through material in lecture very fast...does a ton of cool demos...having a good TA really helps if you're having trouble understanding something

Go Chemisty!

Great lecturer, but a very difficult class. If you do not LOVE chemistry do not take this class, it will take over your life.

Great Professor. Always uses lots of energy for class. I took AP chem so I really did not learn a lot from 109. It has just been a nice review to get ready for anal chem. I would recommend for anyone who learns well from notes.

Reminds me of a little leprauchaun (sp?) man. Very difficult class with a lot of time required outside of lecture. Be prepared to have your life taken over by general chemistry.

Lectures are great, but don't waste your time actually talking to him. Unless you're an overachieving chem freak, he'll hate you. But honestly, this class is so big, there's no real need to talk to him. Overall the class was challenging, but engaging, I recommend. Best lecturer that I've ever had, just know that he's an a**hole in person.

Lectures were very interesting with all sorts of cool demos and explosions and things. He is very approachable, kind, and understanding. I do not like chemistry at all but it made it much more bearable to have a professor that is enthusiastic and cares about the subject.

Awesome class. Very challenging, but the curve at the end helps, a lot. Beware of horrible TAs. Overall class was hard but worth it, plus he is cute!

Zanni is amazing!! He is an extremely dynamic lecturer. There is absolutely no chance of falling asleep in class. I loved going to lecture every day. He pretty much taught what was in the book, so as long as I read the book and went to lecture I really had no problem understanding the material. He's awesome!

Before taking this class, I thought anyone majoring in chemistry must have serious issues, but his class has made me fall in love with chemistry. The labs weren't that interesting, but the lectures were great. It's really too bad that this was his last semester teaching 109.

Prof. Zanni is bomb digity! His lectures are fun and clear (and i dont even like chemistry). He is not BoRing! His tests can be challenging, but the curves help.

Prof. Zanni is hot! Awesome prof. I really dread chemistry and stuff most of the time, but he likes to do sweet demos. Plus he is really fair when it comes to grades and never does anything to hurt your grade. It's a hard class but if i can do it....you have a good chance too

Zanni is an amazing professor. He is always doing cool demos or taking random polls to keep the class involved but never straying too far that it hinders the learning process. His tests are killers but at the end of the semester he drops the requirements for each grade level to make up for that. Only thing to fear are bad TA's in Chem 109.

Wonderful teacher! Knows the material well and covers the topics with entusiasm. Albeit the labs are boring, however, the in-class demo's make it up. Why are you still reading this? Sign up NOW!!

Very interesting professor. Definitely choose Zanni over Moore or Burstyn. Makes lectures interesting and humorous. Tests are pretty hard and there is a lot of work, but you'll have that in any 109. He takes lots of random polls during class to keep everyone intested and easy to relate to. Awesome guy and a kinda cute as well!

This guy may be an okay teacher, but he is REALLY mean! He basically said I was dumb after one exam and I cried!!

This man is crazy!! His lectures really keep you awake. Sometimes his notes are hard to follow but if you look it over yourself it's not that bad. The exams are a killer though try to stay at the class average and do well on homework and you'll do just fine.

Awesome Teacher
