This class inspired me to take more Asia related courses and I may take a major in Chinese. I really liked the short stories and novels we read, and how they're all connected to religion. The Professor always makes everyone think hard about their own cultural background. Informal style, lots of room for questions, interesting discussions. Friendly.Rate My Professors ↗

Not what I expected, but if you're interested in the studies it shouldn't be too bad. Found the material hard to grasp or understand at times. The professor seemed knowledgeable of the subject and was open for discussion on some points. Lots of readings, but not all are necessary. Workload is standard.Rate My Professors ↗

Taoism showed me a totally different way of thinking that Mark made super interesting and relatable. He is extremely knowledgable in the subject and basically anything East Asia. Grading on papers is fair. Go to class, discuss, and seriously, they'll write themselves. That's coming from an engineering major.Rate My Professors ↗

Kind, knowlegable, genuinely wants his students to suceed. You easily can get away with not doing all the readings but it would only would your loss. VERY interesting class! He offers an untraditional (unless, of course, you are a daoist) view on the world that at the very least will make you think. Would reccomend to anyone.Rate My Professors ↗

Interesting class, though sometimes slightly complex. Helpful professor, he always starts class discussions, and he gave me super feedback during individual meetings. Exams are all right, I did well on the two midterms, even though I didn't always do the readings.Rate My Professors ↗
