By far my favorite class during my entire experience here at UW-Madison. Dr. Bartholomay is an amazing professor, and her lectures are engaging, and interesting. She takes the time to learn our names and makes sure everyone is engaged. This was the first class where I would hope to be called on to answer a question!
Dr. B was great! Bi-weekly quizzes can be tricky, be sure to study! Course structure flows nicely, and Dr. B is very kind and personable and lectures are engaging and fun. Participation and engagement in class is a must - almost all lectures have some kind of P+E assignment, or she'll take attendance. Overall a great class!
Dr. B is amazing--so passionate about her field & SO kind. 350 is graded by a LOT of small assignments, so be aware of deadlines. Short, non-cumulative exams online every 2-3 weeks. 75-80% of her lecture is writing on the board, which she posts on Canvas later w/ slides. If you weren't interested in parasitology before, you will be by the end!
Dr. B really cares about her students and their learning. Although lectures are mandatory they feel worthwhile in attending. It's clear that she has taken student feedback and makes sure that classes and exams are educational but also interesting and not overwhelming. Would absolutely recommend taking one of her classes!
Dr. Bartholomay is one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is passionate about the material she teaches and will work with you. She wants her students to learn, and enjoy the subject as much as she does. She is interactive, funny and caring. Attendance is not required but you will receive points for being there.
She is funny and nice in lecture, but the exams are ridiculously unfair. You have almost no time and most students told me they had to guess for most questions. Every question is extremely technical and you really have to read between the lines. Professor didn't acknowledge the difficulty.
Dr. B is awesome and her lectures are very interesting. The level of effort and her expectations were consistent with other biological sciences classes at UW. The class layout is great, you cover between 1 and 3 parasitic diseases per two weeks and the information is consistent across diseases so it is easy to be able to compare disease cycles.
Dr. B is one of the BEST on campus. She is so caring and such a great lecturer. She would do anything for her students and is welcoming to everyone. In my section, she would lecture with a fellow students baby to give the student a break. She is SUCH A GEM. I am a International Studies major and her class was still the best I ever took.
loved her!!! great if you're into parasitology humor and gross stuff. interesting subject and she makes it a blast. tests are hard but rewarding to do well. go to lecture, it's more fun that way anyway!
While lectures aren't required, you need to go in order to get the information. Absolutely amazing teacher & clearly passionate. Definitely a class and professor I'm recommending to others! Loved her!
Unreasonable expectations
Such an interesting and funny professor, really fantastic. I took parasitology with her for fun and I'm glad I did--I learned so much interesting material. Very little outside reading/assignments, which was a huge plus for me. Go to lecture and take notes. Exams (3) were tough (borderline unfair), so make sure you study well. Still 100% worth it.
This class was extremely engrossing (with some emphasis on the gross). Professor B expects a lot from you but is very willing to help if you need it. She is also hilarious and has a great memory, she will know everybody's name in the lecture hall, especially the ones that hide. Definitely take this class.
Dr. B is hilarious and of the best professors I've had. However, parasitology was not an easy class. There are points to be earned during lecture for attendance and other assignments. I would strongly recommend going to lecture! You will really need to know parasite life cycles and terms to do well on exams, for sometimes they can be tricky.
Dr. B was one of the best professor's that I have at while at UW-Madison. She is hilarious and the lectures were really interesting. DO NOT skip this class or it will be hard to do well. It also really helped to go into her office hours to discuss ways to do well on her exams. Don't worry, she is super friendly and approachable.
Dr. B is an awesome professor. It's obvious that she cares about the topics discussed and is enthusiastic about teaching this class. Go to class. The notes are important, the lectures are interesting, and Dr. B usually has some good jokes to keep things lively in class. The tests/case studies are a little difficult, but I recommend this class.
You cannot skip class because exams are very specific. Even if you get the notes from a friend, she may test on something she only briefly mentioned once. She does not grade on a curve so this class is very difficult. She takes a long time to respond to emails and is sometimes condescending.
