I think it's relatively easy to achieve maximum points on all of the short assignments/quizzes, and the exams aren't too bad as long as you follow the study guide/review slides. Although the essays were surprisingly difficult and felt very harshly graded in comparison to past classes I had taken with writing assignments. Fun class though.
Overall, the material in this class was interesting, and a lot of the projects we did were pretty fun. Lecture is just so boring, she's not very engaging and it's really hard to pay attention the whole time. She's good at explaining things, just boring. The exams also had a lot of really small details, which made them hard to study for.
Prof. N is very knowledgable and passionate about climate change and it is clearly reflected through her lectures. There's lots of readings in my opinion but the essays are pretty fun (especially the first and second ones), I don't know about the final essay though (Renewable energy brief assignment)
Prof N. knows her stuff! Such awe-inspiring first-hand stories coming from a truly passionate and sweet professor, and the course is designed so thoughtfully. This class changed my life - highly recommend.
Professor N. seems very passionate with the material she teaches. A lot of homework every week and tests are difficult. Tests are pretty much based off of the homework (readings, videos, podcasts, etc.) and a lot of the questions are very specific to the homework.
Prof. N is great! She's extremely knowledgeable and caring. This class has three papers, three exams, and weekly quizzes based on online readings/videos for each module. It's easy to get an A if you do the readings and complete the study guides for the exams. Participate in discussion, ask questions, and pay attention in lecture.
Overall amazing professor. The tests and papers are definitely difficult and I have found it necessary to seek help outside of class time, but the course material is super interesting and the environment role-playing assignments are very engaging so it makes it worth it. If you are a Geography/Conservation Bio major I highly suggest her classes.
I was not a fan of Professor Naughton, she was nice but not a good professor for the course I took. Lectures are insanely dry, she could have made material a lot more appealing. She is opinionated on a lot of topics, which I didn't like in the sake of this course. Overall I think a more engaging professor should be teaching this course.
Took Geog 339 and found it very interesting. The professor was very passionate about the subject and kind to the students. I will definitely be taking another class from her.
She is extremely well versed in the material she teaches. Very understanding of illness and is very easy to reach outside of class. She is a great communicator and her lectures move at a good pace. I personally missed quite a few lectures and I joined the class late, however, it was easy to catch up and reschedule missed exams.
Did not engage with students during a virtual semester. She seems like a nice person and the course content was moderately interesting, but honestly a little underwhelming and the "course rhythm" was unnecessarily complicated.
Prof. Naughton teaches this course effectively, and she definitely shows that she is personally invested in the content. The large projects in the course are all based on real-world research and are highly engaging.
I am not an environmental studies major, but the material was moderately interesting. Three exams, two roundtables, two papers. Tests are hard and detailed. They draw on readings (which there are a ton of), lectures, and videos. I studied & reviewed a lot, but still could not get above a B on any of the exams. Have to participate a ton in dis.
She has a lot of experience with environmental conservation, which makes it easy for her to make lectures interesting and understandable. It is a power lecture, but her upbeat and positive attitude helps the time go faster. She may push her own agenda a little bit, but she also accepts and discusses different points of views.
She has a lot of experience in environmental conservation and it's interesting to hear how she has been involved in the field. I have a power lecture with her and I stay interested the entire time. You can tell she is passionate about her work. Tests are relatively easy as long as you keep up with the reading throughout the course.
Average class. Didn't find the material interesting. She pushes her agenda, so if you want to listen to that go ahead and take the class.
Naughton is a beautiful women and her class is just is good. Easy class if you study and do the papers.
Prof Naughton is extremely knowledgable however she isn't the more interesting lecturer I've heard. My biggest hint is to go to the out-of-class review sessions and talk one on one with her afterwards.
Lisa Naughton is a fantastic teacher! She is fair, professional, and incredibly well organized in presenting interesting up to date material. She cares for her students but does not lose sight that she is teaching an advance level course. You should do well in the course if you pay attention and put the time into it!
Professor Naughton has a huge ego... unreasonable with grading, and will scorn you if you cross her. The material is interesting but I would not take a class with her if you wish to have a professor who values you as a student
I really enjoyed her section of the course. She has a lot of personal experience and is fun to listen to, though her test questions are sometimes tricky.
I really enjoyed Lisa's half of the semester. She has extensive personal experience and it really makes her passionate and interesting to listen to. Sometimes the material was dry but she herself was a great lecturer and very friendly.
She teaches the second half of the course, but the class is still fairly easy. Her exams are straight from lecture, and all of the lecture slides go up online. Not a bad class, but she was awfully boring at times.
Her exams are straight from the readings and are difficult. She sucks and the assignments are useless. Don't take this class.
Lisa is sooooo boring. She's uses a pseudo intellectual voice when she teaches and just lulls you into a sleep. I've had worse professors than this, but it's really demotivating to get me to go to class when I know i'll have to listen to the drone for 50 mins.
Professor Naughton is the kind of teacher that you feel you almost connect with by the end of the semester. Her entire portion of the course was taught from the perspective of the places she has been and the people she has met. It made conservation feel REAL instead of an abstract ideal.
ridiculously easy course although it does involve three seperate papers for very few points. really nice, likable prof and lectures are relatively interesting.
She's very smart and respectful and has an overwhelming breadth of knowledge both academically and out in the field. Makes you want to do good things.
She is a great person who really cares about her students and what she teaches. Grading can be difficult at times but you know what she expects of you. Excellent class!
very good teacher. knows what shes talking about for sure. very interesting and i enjoyed this class a lot. not necessarily an easy A, but definitely take this class.
good teacher, very nice, but make sure to do all of the readings and thoroughly, because they end up making about a third of the tests
Very easy teacher (practically hands you every test on a silver platter), but spends too much class time on her own experiences instead of properly covering the material.
Good teacher. Teaches well, and tests are very easy. Has obvious biases, however, and tends to disregard student questions.
Lisa's field experience aids her teaching greatly. Her enthusiasm and clarity is highly impressive.
Lisa's one of the beast -teachers- I've encountered. She's smart, obviously, and kind. Moreover, she's inspiring, motivating, etc. Highly recommended.
She has very interesting stories about her work. One thing I appreciated was the fact that she WANTS her students to do well, so she'll help you if you need it. It's a great class!
