Very few things to be graded on so one small mistake could hurt you a lot. Lectures were repetitive and boring, but the material was a lot of common sense and easy to understand. Minimal effort needed to pass

The readings for this course are jumbled and unconnected. There are both papers and exams, and the exams require route memorization of the readings. Content on the slides does not match what Dr. Bow talks about, which makes it very frustrating to try and take notes during lectures.

Professor Bow is a masterful and brilliant lecturer, and presents course concepts in a way that encourages students to think for themselves, rather than her just giving you an explicit opinion. There is a lot of reading material, but the content itself is thought-provoking and engaging, regardless if you are interested in ethnic studies.

By far the HARDEST grader I have ever had for an elementary level literature class. I showed up to every lecture and discussion and got an 89% on participation even though the class average was a 95%.... not sure how that works. Test are easy and straight forward same with essays. But damn she is a hard grader. Idk id look for an easier lit class.

Professor Bow is amazing, she gave great lectures and left room for student thought to grow in the classroom. Although it is tough because of the need to memorize essays read in class, it is worth it for the cultural knowledge learned in class. The materials used in class were mostly graphic novels and essays but all great readings.

I took this class because one of my majors is Chinese. I brought up China a few times in discussion (because I lived there less than a month before classes started for the summer) and was told in class right by other people that I made people uncomfortable. She grades very strictly and chooses favourites so be wary. (1st time i got a B in uni)

Nice professor, clearly outlines expectations. Exams are fair relying on free response skills and brute memorization of material specifically on recalling context, author name, title, and giving small analysis of text excerpts. Papers are fairly easy if you consult/check in heavily with TA's in office hours. Lecture/Discussion graded on attendance

Harsh grading and impossible standards to receive all points on assignments. Seemed nice but did not learn from this class. If you're looking for an easier class to fulfill Literature credit I would not do this class.

Since this was an online course, participation and attendance were recorded based a daily reflection post & a follow-up response post. You must complete the readings to do well in the course. Professor Bow consistently gave very helpful and timely feedback. The entire course was engaging and thought-provoking. I would highly recommend taking it!

Always keeps the class well engaged in the discussion. Overall a class that is not too difficult if you keep up with the reading, and participate in discussion.

Professor Bow clearly knows her subject material and she choose her text well. The class was engaging and fun. She does take attendence which is part of your grade along with 2 papers, a group project, and a final. Read the text and you should be fine.
