Dr. Ohm starts talking at the beginning of the lecture period and will not stop until 75 minutes are up. She packs a lot of content into MATH514—you need to be focused to keep up. Exams aren't too difficult, and she willingly gives extra time. I found the first two weeks the hardest part of the class. You'll use material from calc 2 and 3 a lot.
The content in this class is tough but you could tell Prof. Ohm tried to make all concepts as clear as possible in her lecture notes. She also made the tests much easier than they could've been which I really appreciated. Don't know much about the lectures because I never went, but she made it extremely clear what was going to be on the exams.
avoid this lecture. Prof Rycroft instead
Absolutely no clue what was going on this entire class and I don't think I was alone - about 80% of class didn't attend lectures by the end. Even practical topics were presented in an incoherently abstract manner. I don't think she's any worse than the average math professor here but she certainly isn't any better.
Great professor. Lectures were fine and Professor Ohm used a lot of examples to explain theorems or methods. She was great at explaining difficult topics. Definitely recommend taking her class.
Ohm was amazing, she gave a lot of examples and was clear in her lectures. So much better than other professors who teach this class.
Professor Ohm made my calculus 3 experiences awesome. Her explanations in class were concise, easy-to-follow and straight to the point. The problems she went through in class were very effective for applying the theoretical things the class covered. She was also responsive to questions and made sure they were answered. Best math professor so far.
Ohm did not have much of a personality, but she got to the point and taught well. She could seem bland at times and often wrote out and explained her math in words which I did not like personally (although if you like definitions and such, you will enjoy this). Overall, she was a good teacher.
Professor Ohm is definitely one of the best teachers I've had for mathematics. Her lectures were easy to follow and were not that fast paced. Unlike Sean Paul, she did examples on the board and that gave us a way to practice questions in class and retain more informatin. You need to have some common sense/basic understand of fundamentals though.
Very straightforward professor, who writes good notes. A little fast in lectures, but that is due to the amount of material in the course. But what's nice is that she posts her handwritten notes to see later. From what I've heard about the other professor--Sean Paul--I would definitely take Ohm's lecture instead.
She was great. Very clear and thorough, and took her time in lectures.
Professor Ohm's lectures were clear and fast paced which was good for me personally. TA's for the class are very hit or miss. It's worth it to find the good ones and go to their office hours. The homework isn't to bad, but the exams are difficult.
Lectures are fine. Lots of examples. Expect at least one impossible exam question if Sean Paul is teaching any other section of the class.
Didn't really go to lecture, but her lecture notes were very straight forward to read on my own time. I didn't go to discussion either except for quizzes and I did fine. Just keep up with lecture content, make sure you understand the homework, and do the provided past exams and you should be fine.
Ohm posts all her lecture notes online, which are actually pretty helpful. She's monotone and not overly accommodating, but the examples in lectures were helpful. I learned more from my TA but that's to be expected with big lectures. One thing is she'll introduce a basic level problem and then have us try one 50x harder and expect it to make sense.
Exams make up 84% of your grade, which imo is a good thing because they're usually not too difficult and very predictable since you have access to previous semesters' exams. Quizzes are only like 4 percent of your grade. I did poorly on the first midterm and almost every quiz but was still able to recover and end with an A.
(update from a low score). She adjusted her teaching method, and the content is relevant to the exam! Midterm 2 was a nice exam! But the exam weight is tooooooo high and ignore our effort in quiz! However, this is the matter of math department
She is a kind teacher!
Cares about students; disengaging lectures; 3 exams are 84% of your grade; weekly HW and module quizzes; late exams; mediocre TAs; grading standards are unclear and not shared
Better than most math professors in the department, sometimes bland lectures but always easy to follow.
This is Dr. Ohm's first semester teaching after her post-doc at Princeton and I'm happy to see how well she progressed with lectures and how to teach content as the semester went on. She does a very good job with lectures and posts the notes online as well. One thing is she doesn't write the exams (the department does) but, they're very reasonable.
Professor Ohm did a good job teaching Calculus in class. She works several examples in class which is very helpful. She is caring and wants to help you succeed. Very helpful in office hours. That being said, you still need to put in the work outside of class to succeed in this course, regardless of what professor you take.
Ohm did reasonably well for her first time teaching; not perfect but also not bad either. Gives many examples during lecture, which is very helpful. She is a caring professor and takes student feedback seriously. People complain about the first midterm but she is not in charge of making the exams (no individual prof is).
She is a good lecture teacher, but the class is very difficult. Your whole grade is based upon the exams which are difficult.
Professor Ohm is a super kind teacher and she really tries her best to help students. The one star review on her page is very misleading because she does not design the midterms. She went over a very similar example in class and well I agree that the question on the midterm was very difficult, she is not at fault for that.
She's just plain bad at teaching. An entire question on the first midterm was never discussed in class, and only written out once (incompletely) in the notes she posts online, which are hard to follow.
