Prof. McClure is so passionate about the material—I'd recommend her and this class to anyone. I loved the small seminar format, which allowed for engaging, critical discussions about interesting topics. Grading was fair, and the comprehensive study guides made me feel that if I put in the work, I'd do well on the exams. One of my favorite classes!

Professor McClure is so kind and a great lecturer. She does great recaps of the reading so even if you didn't read/ didn't read very in depth, if you go to lecture you'll do well. Only two small papers and exams were fair with her preparing you for the essays in class before. Enjoyable and easy class!

Took the class just to fulfill a credit but I ended up really enjoying the course! McClure is such a sweetheart and really cares about the subject, which made most of the lectures interesting. There is not a lot of homework, besides a few reading responses, however the readings can be a bit long and tedious at times. The exams are fair if you study

The class is about ancient Greece and Rome- so don't take it if you don't like literature/history. If you do, this class is amazing. The material at times can be dry but homework is light and grading is fair. Professor McClure is a great lecturer and really makes an effort to help students achieve in her class, is accessible if you need help.

If you are not interested in history/ancient Greece and Rome DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I absolutely hate history, but thought this class could be really interesting and bring in a new aspect about gender and make it interesting. It is the worst class I have taken. I do not recommend this class at all. Every lecture so boring.

This is a literature class about ancient Greece and Rome. If you are not that interested in this area and not interested in Latin terms, then this course may be rather boring. There are 6 reading responses, the last one is dropped and 1 1000 word essay and 2 exams. She is very knowledgeable of the topics.

Professor McClure has a lot of passion for the material which is particularly enjoyable. However, her slides often had things on them that she barely mentioned and then you would be expected to know on the exams. Overall, this class was easy, but could be difficult because of lack of establishment of guidelines. Lots of extra credit opportunities.

There was a lot of reading, but everything was reviewed in depth in class. Important quotes for tests are reviewed plenty of times in class. Even though the reading could sometimes be difficult as it was translated from Greek, I always felt like I knew what was going on thanks to the lectures.

Professor McClure is so knowledgeable and kind! Exams are easy to average difficulty and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. She's also really helpful when it comes to papers and will help you find sources if you go to her office hours.

You can tell she has a passion for classics in her lectures, but often times would ramble. There was way too much reading for this class that wasn't needed to understand the material. Overall a good experience though.

Laura is an amazing professor and a really cool person. She is very passionate about Classics, and makes her lectures both interesting and hilarious. There is a LOT of reading and writing for this class (Com B & Lit credits), but she discusses more than enough of the material in class for you to understand it and get a good grade.

Lots of reading for the class, but can get by on using spark notes. One 2000 pg paper that was worth 50% of the grade. And another 20% of the grade was for showing up to lecture and discussion. Pretty easy com b course.

Professor McClure is excited to teach about Classics and it is pretty infectious.

Not bad, down to earth and helpful. Paper grading is sort of typical.

Great professor. Enthusiastic and wants all of her students to have a great experience. Work load is on and off. Your grade is 80 percent writing so see you will at least improve in that respect. Not too hard of a com b class and i enjoyed the material with her.

Professor McClure is one of my favorite professors at UW-Madison. She's funny, intelligent, and extremely knowledgeable in her field. I definitely recommend her or anyone in the Classics department!

I love her enthusiasm. She has a great energy. The class is pretty easy; no tests, attendance isn't taken in lecture, papers (there are 3, plus take-home essay final) are pretty easily graded.

Professor McClure is an amazing professor. She is so enthusiastic during her lectures, and the readings she assigns are fascinating. She keeps in mind that we have lives outside of her class and relates course material to modern culture, keeping things interesting.

Very nice, very helpful. Great lecturer- kept me interested! I greatly enjoyed her class.

McClure was a good professor, sometimes relating lectures to things that we would understand in our culture. The tests are pretty fair and if you study, you should do fine.

Shes so much fun. The reading sucks, way too much, tests are all essay and passage id's.

Prof is very well organized and loves to teach. Lectures and required reading very interesting. If you don't buy the textbook you'll be fine-only used as context for readings. Exams are essay and short answer.

She is very smart, making it a little difficult to follow her sometimes. She really enjoys teaching though, which makes learing the material a lot easier. I really enjoyed the class

Shes a good lecturer, but there is way too much reading to do for this class.

Very helpful if you have a question.

I enjoyed the material and she was very entertaining. While she did pay lots of attention to her section, I did not let that get in the way of the subject material.

Ok, you call her flighty, say she favored her own section. I say the second part might be right, but definately not flighty. she got off track SOMETIMES, but things change, Im fine with that. Not hard, classic greek literature, honors section is a must, very nice prof. an Easy class overall.

The class is ridiculously easy, but most of the time it;s interesting. McClure is nice, but I felt like she made judgments about us early in the semester that would not change as the semester wore on. Lots of reading, but you can get away without doing most of it.

this class was not hard by any means. just go to class, and pay attention to the excerpts she points out from the tons of readings she makes you do. tests are way easy, just spitting out knowledge, and easy essays. definitely reccomend this class!

Intense lectures, bounced around a lot so you had to pay attention at all times. Lots of reading, sparknotes.com helps...not the hardest class, but not an easy A by any means. My TA got me through most of the confusion, but I'd still recommend it, I enjoyed the class.

She was VERY random during her lectures. She made us buy an outline book and then changed every single outline, which was annoying. She showed much favoritism to her own section, and was very unapproachable outside of class. But if you like Greek history, this class is probably good for you.

Goes off on tangents during lectures, which aren't the most exciting things to begin with.. doesn't seem overly accessible outside of class, but not bad overall. Easy class.

Her classes were very hard to follow and she annoyed me simply because she was always asking the students and TAs to help her remember things during lecture and because she would mess up basic facts. Her tests were totally random and pointless.

One word: FLIGHTY. She was so obnoxious to have to listen to. The organization of lecture was terrible and her tests were random and unintelligent.

Lectures are very informative; but her train of thought is sometimes difficult to follow. I find that her TA's are much more helpful than she is specifically, but she seems very approachable. Tests seem to be a demonstration of ability to spit out information.

Intense Lectures

An interesting lecturer, fair exams.

If you're into classic greek and roman literature, this is your class. Personally, I found some of the topics a bit dry, and her lecuturing a bit dry too. I can't remember how many classes I've slept through. My TA, Kristin, was a different story though - really into this stuff, fun fun.

Very interesting class. The passage IDs on the tests are NOT as hard as everyone says. Plus the TAs write and grade the tests, not her. Very fun professor.

The passage ID's on the test are pointless, One passage on the last test was worth 10% of the total points. She has some good points, but in general is rather spacy. If your thinking about ILS I would recomend 201 and 202.

lectures are entertaining and informative, but she sometimes emails the notes 5 minutes before class

Her lectures are interesting, but she's kind of flighty and scattered. Also, the passage identification sections of her tests are extremely difficult.

One of the best Prof. that I had. I recommend her class!!

She is a very funny professor and I actually enjoyed going to her lectures. The tests were fair (not overly difficult) and she is very nice (as are her TA's). I highly recommend taking this class w/ this professor!
