My largest complaint was with the final assignment. When I received the grade on my final project (20+ pages) it was evident that only the final page was graded. I lost points for mistakes on the assignment that I didn't make. I emailed the professor a month ago asking for clarification and I still have not received a response.
AVOID Sunny for 651. Bone-dry lectures. Terrible communication. Discussions full of experienced librarians being totally lost. Sunny ignores questions about contradictory info & acts like things are self-evident. She makes up insane search strategies, e.g. associating "cattle" with cats. Sunny clearly has no recent LIS experience. Awful; run away.
Sunny is a great professor. You end up learning a lot after you finish her assignments & they never feel unnecessary. She cares about you understanding the material and loves answering questions in class. Gave us a couple of weeks off for holidays & catching up on assignments as well. If she is being unclear, she happily clarifies if you ask her
Awful communication in this course. She tends to really overcomplicate assignment directions and then get mad when students either misconstrue the assignment or "make it too complicated" (her words). She's very direct and can be super harsh when students ask for help, meetings with her were always very intimidating.
She is knowledgeable, organized, and helpful. Her course covered quite complex stuff totally new to us, but at the end of the semester, I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I had learned and enjoyed it. I did not expect this because the course was known to be tough, but now I am a convert. Whatever she did worked!
I took her courses covering many new theoretical, technical stuff. There were a number of exercises to work on, but I liked them because they actually helped learn how things are applied. She was very helpful and supportive. And I got a dream job!!!
Sunny has serious issues communicating with students. She is knowledgeable, but cannot express ideas clearly or without being bone dry. Her lectures tended to drone, but sometimes she would try to make up for it with candy.
I pressed the button too quickly. :( Here are my comments: This course covers a lot of useful stuff. If you don't keep up, it would get easily overwhelming. However, I found the course is well structured and effectively taught. Prof Kim is demanding yet understanding. Warning - there are a number of assignments and exams! You'll also learn a lot!
Terrible communicator. Gets angry with class for not understanding, when the root of the problem is miscommunication. As a result, becomes petulant and makes nasty comments to students. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
