Me and my partner had the understanding that we didn't need to attend the lecture times due to us attending a lot of meetings. She then went behind our backs with our grades after telling us we could make us the "missing assignments" for attendance points (we attended meetings during class time) even though other peers said there were none.

Professor Burkholder was very kind and lectures were interesting. Only issue with this class is that the two exams were substantially more difficult than any of the weekly quizzes, journal reflections, etc. Would recommend that students dont underestimate the content as exams are multiple choice & short answer formats.

She was an extremely sweet and understanding professor. My only problem with her was that she would often talk about irrelevant things during lectures. Discussions are what matter with regard to the exams for this class.

This class was very interesting and applicable to life. All of the weekly quizzes were easy and the 3 written reflections were helpful. Love Professor Burkholder, she is so sweet and cares about her students. Only downside is that exams were quite difficult, compared to rest of the course material, and you need to remember a lot of specific stuff.

Lecture attendence is mandatory but I never took notes. Exams are really vocab heavy, so memorize those and you'll be fine. Discussion attendence is mandatory but you can participate as much or as little as you are comfortable with. Overall, I recommend taking this class and Kristy was great.

Really kind teacher. Lectures mandatory, not recorded. Discussions mandatory, participate for credit. Great class, high A rate. For exams, memorize all vocab; recommend using Anki or Quizlet. Go to office hours if confused about something, Burkholder was never condescending and always answered clearly.

Kristy is great and you can tell she really cares for all her students. The class is fairly easy as it's mostly graded on reflections, essays, and a group presentation. That being said, the structure can be a bit confusing. She doesn't put grades in until the last month or so of class. However, she isn't a hard grader at all. Take this class!!

45 percent is dependent on your exams. Lectures are extremely boring and irrelevant. Basically you have to study yourself. She yaps and hit you with an exam that is weirdly specific. Whole class woke af. Gets into confusing gender identity stuff. Just a waste of my time honestly. I would rather watch a snail cross the road.

While this class is exam-heavy, they are not difficult if you simply do the readings and listen during lectures, everything you need to know is provided to you. The TA I had at first was honestly pretty bad, but she was replaced with another guy who was awesome. Dr. B is also a great lecturer, she cares about her students (though she can ramble)

Kristy uses lecture time to tell stories that aren't relevant when it comes to understanding course material, rather than explaining her lecture slides (that you need to review outside of class--even though she does not tell you that). Syllabus is unclear on attendance grading in lectures. TWO EXAMS make up 45% percent of your grade...Good luck!!!!

The grade breakdown makes no sense and Professor doesn't put any grades in till the last second. Attendance is mandatory and excused absences are not excused.

Dr. Burkholder is so passionate about teaching and getting to know students. Her lectures and the content learned in this course are truly inspiring. The readings and homework assigned are so worthwhile- I would read them twice because they were so good! The discussion section was my favorite part because my TA was awesome too. Highly recommend!

I absolutely loved this class and Professor Burkholder. I am so inspired by her not only as a teacher, but a person. I really enjoyed the class material and felt I could take what I learned and apply it to my own life. I cannot recommend Professor Burkholder and this class enough. I would definitely take again!

For this class being 1 credit it was a fair amount of work & unorganized. The class is based off of 4 papers (and attendance) each time the assignment criteria was released closer and closer to the deadline. Gives little time to make work of high quality. Ex the final paper for this class is due in 2 days and hasn't been released on Canvas.

Dr. Burkholder is the most genuine and sweetest human you will ever meet. Not only is she caring and approachable, she is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. This course is so rewarding and insightful, and Dr. Burkholder always makes lectures engaging. I recommend this class to anyone, regardless of major!!!

The best professor I have ever had, super kind and caring. Very passionate about the humans around her even if she doesn't know anything about them. I will probably take all of her classes.

Dr. B is a great professor. Super caring and sweet. The lectures are interesting and informative and she always has good stories to go along with what we are learning. The homework that she assigns is always very interesting and engaging and I look forward to doing it sometimes!!! The class is really cool and not super hard, I highly recommend.

Professor Burkholder is very nice and caring! I took the EcoYou course on happiness and I found her lectures to be very thorough and she really explains everything. Since the class was online, she did an AMAZING job at organizing! Everything is written out for you and where to find everything. The TA's are amazing and there is great communication!

The papers seem daunting at first, but in all honesty I'd start them 24 hours before they were due and received 100% each time. She is the sweetest, most caring professor I've had. While it may seem in the beginning as if her courses are difficult, put in a little effort and you are very much rewarded for your efforts. Understanding and flexible.

She's awesome! Super sweet and knowledgable about her topic. Genuinely cares about her students. Not too heavy on tests or readings but you do need to go to class. Tries to make it so your succeed. 11/10 would take again.

She is an amazing professor. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her students, she remembers all of them and little details, and that she is passionate about that stuff that she is teaching. The workload is not bad at all, just as long as you are in class you will do great!

Professor Burkholder has to be my favorite professor by far! I'm always excited to attend her lecture because she speaks with so much inspiration. She has many great stories to tell that are relevant to course materials. Her assignments/assessments encourage applied knowledge, allowing students to explore their real potentials.

Professor Burkholder is by far my favorite instructor I have had in my four years. She is there as much more than just a professor, she wants all her students to do well in her class as well as in their lives and throughout their careers. TAKE HER CLASSES if you want to learn great life lessons.

Professor Burkholder is by far the nicest professor I have had at UW. She is very caring of all students and makes sure to treat everyone with respect. Also, she cares about each of her students as an individual and recognizes that the individual person comes far before the student. I have taken three courses with her and would highly recommend all

Kristy is the absolute best. I have taken every course she teaches just to have her as a professor as much as possible. She goes above and beyond to get to know her students. Kristy is an excellent resource for students looking for jobs and will help you connect with people she thinks can help you. Everyone should get the privilege of meeting her.

She is a fantastic professor. I would say the best I have had at UW. She is so knowledgable, professional, approachable, personable, and genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Would HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Kristy.

Professor Burkholder is an angel and deserves to be treated as such.

Kristy is an amazing professor and made my semester so much better for it. I can't say enough good things about her - I hope to have her as a professor again. She has such interesting lectures always accompanied by really great stories and she wants you to understand the material. She also always extends herself to students and is there for them.

I loved this class so much and I truly believe it was only because of Kristy. Her lectures were never boring and was accompanied by great stories and examples. She is such an amazing professor, very understanding and very approachable!

Kristy is one of my all-time favorite professors. She is so personal, understanding, and interesting. She is a slow grader and slow at e-mails, though. All-in-all would take the class over 500 times and not get sick of her. Such a sweetheart.

The leadership prep course was about the easiest A you'll ever get at the UW. I felt discussion was unnecessary, but it was okay.

Have taken HDFS 516, 501, and 362 with her. She is the one of the most wonderful individuals I have ever met. She is a great professor, role model, and inspiration. Kristy cares greatly about her students and her work. There are not enough good things I can say about her.

Best professor ever. Such a wonderful lady, and makes class really enjoyable

Most understanding and accomodating professor I have ever had.

Best professor EVER! she is the sweetest thing and is so understanding. Simply wonderful!!

online course, 3 exams MC/essay. Lectures are boring yet sometimes interesting. MC sections on exams can be a bit hard but doable. Make sure you know key terms. I thought I had studied enough but never got a grade that I liked, but I still ended up with a B in the course. Not a terrible class to take.

Kristy is my favorite professor ever. She is so understanding and will make changes to assignments or attendance policies based on personal need. She also is very good at leading discussions. Also there are no written exams, grades are based on writing assignments, participation in class discussions, a group assignment, and a personal project.

Online course - lectures are painstakingly boring, but the class is overall pretty easy. ONLY 3 exams. There are assigned readings from the textbook, but I never read them and will still end up with an A in the class. You only need to study lecture material. She is also very pleasant - almost too pleasant - but I'll take it.

Amazing, amazing, amazing professor! She cares so much about her students and goes out of her way to do what she can to help them. I would definitely recommend taking a class with Kristy and getting to know her.

She's really nice and approachable. May not answer emails promptly but see her at her office hours if you have questions. If you take the online version, make sure you keep up since exams are mostly lecture. Just read the chapter reviews instead of reading. And you definitely don't need the study guide book.

Good class if your looking for an online course and soc studies credit. Exams are mult choice and essay- essay portion is much easier. Not hard to pull a B, at least.

great class. surprisingly easy if you do the work. essay sections bring up the grade from mult choice. good if your looking for an online class and soc sci credits.

Kristy is the best professor I have ever had. She is extremely knowledgeable and understanding. She is always open to hearing others thoughts and opinions during class, and if you ever have a problem, need and extension, etc. she is more than willing to help out in any way.

Exams are scantron and are not bad, but it seems as though some TAs grade very easily, while others are unreasonably picky (regarding the papers). I would take this class again but pray that you don't get one of the TAs on a power trip!

Pretty easy class, just watch the lectures and read the summaries of the book chapters. Papers are graded easy if you have the right TA.

Surprisingly difficult! Well, the exams were easy as long as you watched the lectures (I took it online), but extremely nitpicky about the papers! Overall, mediocre class. Not very interesting material.
