This class is very MATLAB-focused. Exams are pretty easy since they're take-home, but group projects are rough since MATLAB isn't good for collaboration. You don't really have to come to lectures but it would help, since he doesn't write very clearly or make powerpoints for his notes. Grading is lenient and workload is reasonable.
331 was a very poorly taught class for the last 5 years and Prof. Suresh took time to make the course interesting again. Content is extremely useful and applicable outside of class, and it is a very easy A as long as you check your work with a mentally competent partner. Exams were not proctored and 24 hours to take.
I took it last semester, Prof. Suresh is absolutely a T0 professor in the ME department. The content is exciting and complicated, however, Prof. Suresh has the magic to organize the material and teach logically (he wrote the textbook). Overall I really recommend this course.
He is one of the better professors I have had. He really cares about his students and wants to make sure they succeed. Although the topics could become boring, he continuously encouraged questions to make sure the entire class understood what was going on. I would definitely recommend him to others.
Best professor I have had. He knows when students get confused and how to deal with them during the lecture. His tests are fairly reasonable.
Probably the best lecturer Ive had so far at UW-Madison. Incrementally increased difficulty thoughout the course and forced you to conceptualize how ideas built on each other.
Very respected professor who really pushes you. I guess that is a good thing but sucks if you are graded on it. The way this class was taught was weird. It was like two different classes. The lab and lecture were very different.
Prof S exudes kindness, confidence and expertise. Provides a comfortable environment for asking questions in class and is always excited to speak to students about material outside of class as well. Suresh is concerned primarily with providing his students with the skills to succeed, you won't sweat evaluation, this class is fun and useful.
Prof. Suresh does an amazing job as a professor. His teaching methodology involves teaching by plethora of examples. His homework are pretty simple and straight forward . The course on the whole deals with implementing ideas of optimization such as KKT etc in MATLAB . An awesome course and would definitely take it again !
Although I have a background in optimization, the lectures gives different perspective, the more intuitive one. The graphical illustrations are specifically helpful in understanding the algorithms. Questions and discussions are part of the class. A very nice course for intermediate level of expertise in optimization.
Krishnan is the man, probably the best engineering professor i've had at UW
Best engineering teacher at UW:Madison. Actually cares about how you do, and will help in any facet. Understands what you need to know and wants his students to succeed. Amazing lectures, makes material interesting.
Professor Suresh is without a doubt the best professor I have had at UW thus far. You can see how much he cares about if student understand the course material and explains content in a very clear manner. He strives for student to understand the material during lecture, rather than struggling over it after class.
Engaging lectures that makes learning seem effortless, Professor Suresh presents material in a clear organized manner giving students the best possible chance to succeed.
Suresh is by far, hands down, the most incredible professor I have had in my four years in Engineering at UW. He explains the most difficult concepts succinctly and with ease. He emphasizes the understanding of concepts as opposed to memorizing equations and regurgitating numbers. If you go to class, participate, and ask questions, you will get anA
Best professor I've had in college. Class isn't the easiest but he makes it doable
The best professor I have had at Madison. His lectures are simply phenomenal. He breaks down ideas to their simplest forms and then slowly adds complexity, and by the end you realize you have a total understanding of the concept. This is the kind of professor I would build my schedule around to take him. Tests were very fair with no big curveballs
Awesome Professor ! Would definitely take his class . He explains difficult topics as though they were nothing.
Professor Suresh was one of the most reasonable professors I've had at this university. He presented difficult material in an understandable manner during lectures. He also truly cared about the students learning the material and wasn't just teaching the class because he had to. Exams were tough, but were always fair.
Most attractive and intelligent professors that I've had the privilege of listening to in my college career. Definitely take him for ME 306 and everything else he teaches or will ever teach.
He describes difficult material in a way that is easy to understand
Explain concepts using simple examples and simple derivations. Felt like I actually learned the material versus memorizing formulas. The class is a bit hard because there is so much material and endless applications of the material.
Definitely wanna recommend this professor! He's probably the best professor that I've ever had. He is super clear and organized in lecture. Exams are fair. Some problems maybe a little bit tricky but it is just because the material itself is hard. He gives a lot of sample questions in lecture. Just make sure you stay with him and do HW.
He is a very nice guy. Willing to help student all the time. He's lecture is very clear and well organized. Definitely recommend this Professor Krishnan
Dr. Suresh is probably the best overall professor I will have at UW. He is tough and he has high standards. A large part for this is because there's so much to teach and study, yet there's only so many questions he could ask you on prelims and exams. He ultimately wants to make sure you understand the concepts! I hope to have him again.
Suresh is an excellent teacher. He clearly loves what he does and wants to pass on his knowledge to the next generation. He encourages you to ask questions, wants to make sure you understand, and is very personable. He truly cares about his students and because of that, he is one of the best professors that ive ever had. Highly recommend
He is awesome! Really clear and really helpful. Always willing to talk to students and provide advice. I would highly recommend him
Professor Suresh was probably one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. He teaches you to think logically and consider how things are derived, which really contributes to an understanding of the material. Would highly, highly recommend.
Suresh is an excellent teacher. He is very good at teaching how methods work instead of just the derivations of all of them. He is one of the best professors at the university in my opinion
Suresh was an excellent professor. He really wanted everyone to learn the material well. Willing to do what he could to help students. Tests were normal for an engineering course.
Suresh is one of the best professors that I have had at the University. He explains material very well, and allows you to grasp concepts, not just formulas. He was eager to answer questions, and exams were average for an engineering course. Homework problems were critical to understanding material. Take this class with him if possible.
By far the best prof I've had in my 2 years at the school. Will answer any question during class and will always make sure his answer satisfies your question. His approach to teaching new concepts allows you to grasp them with little to no confusion. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
Suresh is one of the best profs at Madison. He's very clear, tries to develop your intuition, is engaging, and, on top of it all, is a super nice guy. Tests weren't bad if you went to class and understood the homework. Bottom line: If you have the chance, take a class with Suresh.
Unpopular opinion: I didnt really like Prof Suresh. He has a really great knowledge of the material but exams dont accurately reflect material/students knowledge of the material.
Professor Suresh is hands down the best professor I've had in my college career. He is extremely engaging with class participation and he doesn't make you feel nervous or hostile so you are comfortable answering questions. All of his exams are open book so you don't need to memorize formulas, and while his exams are difficult, he prepares you well.
This is one of the best professors I have ever had. Great guy, very clear. Passionate about students understanding and succeeding
Top notch professor. Very knowledgable about the subject matter, and most importantly, an excellent teacher. My highest recommendation. Lectures and the overall course were very well organized.
Professor Suresh is one of the highest quality professors I've had thus far. He explained the material incredibly clearly with tons of examples. As long as you attend lecture, do the homework, and put in a moderate amount of studying for the tests this class should be no problem.
Suresh was a great professor. The class material was hard since it was so much to present in such a short time. Going to problem solving sessions made it come together. Definitely recommend going to these! Homework is challenging but reasonable.
One of the best professors I've had here. The class itself was not super interesting but Suresh made it bearable. Tests were pretty much what you expected and were all open book. Homework was difficult at times but definitely helped you prepare for tests.
Great at explaining
By far one of the best teachers I have had had. He makes attending lecture worth while by doing numerous examples and giving better clarification than the book. If you can take Suresh for any class I would highly recommend doing so.
Best professor I've had to this point. Covers material with optical clarity. Always answers questions, even in the middle of a lecture. He will repeat himself several times with perfect patience. Tests were all open book, open note but were not easy. He teaches the concepts, make sure you understand the concepts. It's all about the concepts.
Great professor, his lectures cover everything that you need to know. You just have to take good notes, work through and understand the homework. all of this with open book exams makes it possible for you to get the grade you want.
I wish Krishnan taught all my classes. He is the one of the best professors I've had so far.
Krishnan is the best professor I have had at UW. He derives the equations during lecture and then does helpful examples. You can tell he REALLY wants students to understand what is going on and doesn't mess around with the details of the problems. The exams are difficult but fair and they are all open notes/book.
Awesome professor! Very good at explaining complex material which is good because the class is heavy on MATLAB. Add that to interesting subject matter and you have a one awesome ME elective.
Lectures are pretty helpful. The hw is pretty easy, if you have any questions talk to the professor or TA. Labs, pay-attention if you haven't used NX6 or7 before so you can get through the lab assignments. 1st exam is always easy, the final was pretty tough but its open book.
What a great guy, definitely recommend.
This professor is spectacular. I can honestly say that there was never a time in lecture when I didn't understand what was going on. Tests were difficult but fair (the professors use the same exam, you can't escape this). There was nothing on an exam that wasn't covered in lecture. If you have a choice for ME 306, choose Suresh.
good professor, lectures are very helpful
Prof Suresh is one of the few Engr professors I've had that make lecture more worthwhile then reading the book. He is extremely clear, derives the proofs you need to know for the first 30 or so minutes of class, then squeezes a few quick examples in. Highly recommended!
Good guy who is easily approachable. Tests are challenging, but very similar to the homeworks. Always available for questions, works hard to help students understand. Would definately recommend.
His is a pretty nice guy, sort of funny. The exams are graded a little harsh. All in all not too bad of a class.
