Class was beyond a joke. 1 test (Midterm) 1 all encompassing project. After the midterm you can abandon the lectures and be just fine. Kris is a good professor and teacher but the class is crazy.

Kris is an organized, well-spoken professor! The class follows a flipped format: you learn mostly from the readings (do them!) and then the lecture is a demo. It's very easy to scrape an A in this class without caring much. However, the material is interesting and very valuable. Dig deep, have fun, and learn what you want to learn.

Kris is exceptionally disorganized and the class is not cohesive. Often, Canvas serves as a "single source of truth" for a given course. In STAT 436, the professor spreads their content over dozens of .docx files you must download and open. Many people like Kris for his personality – but that's not the be all end all for me. Oh well.

Course: Better read notes before lectures and be prepared to do the code exercises. There will be a big group project, HW/portfolio and exams. Prof: Smart, accessible and helpful. Passionate about the topic, really knows what he is talking about and explains things well. Give very clear and easy-to-follow grading rubric.

I love Kris! He is such a helpful professor, and he's super smart! I'd love to see if he's teaching any other courses I can take in the future!!! :D

Kris really knows how to teach. Consider this, there are not many profs in our stat dep know how to articulate concepts even though they taught their class for years, while Kris who is just AP gives amazing lecture. He publishes clear online notes at the beginning of semester in Github. In-class examples are extremely helpful.

Took his stat 436 in spring 23. Kris is a good person and a passionate lecturer at the same time. He loves what he does (data visualization) and is willing to help students the best he can. Reasonable HW workload, open book midterm, and group project.

He's a great professor. The HW's are long but he's always willing to help either in OH or via email. He's very passionate about data visualization. This is a class everyone should take!

Reviewing his class for 679, the format is half reverse-lecture style so watch his videos before class so you have an idea of what he's going over. Long HW, but he's extremely helpful during office hours and through email. Definitely one of the nicest and most approachable professors I've ever encountered. Very passionate about data visualization!

Professor Sankaran was one of the best teachers i've taken for the data science major. He goes over every aspect of using R effectively, statistical modeling, data visualization, machine learning, you name it. I consistently find myself coming back to the course's canvas page for guidance on new projects I'm working on. A must take DS elective.

One of those rare classes where you learn a lot of interesting and useful material but the course work isn't overwhelming or super difficult. I'd highly recommend this class. Stanford professors (Sankaran and Kang) are built different.

Kris is honestly a great professor. 2 midterms and a group project as well as homeworks. The homeworks are quite a bit of work but there's only a few spread out per semester. He is very responsive and truly wants to see his students do well. As long as you can find a good group for projects, you'll be fine - same for 424, which he also taught.
