Told me that going over an exam question that I got wrong was a waste of his time because the TA graded my exam. Only used lecture videos from ten years ago to deliver course content and often times had us come up with our own practice problems during lecture. It was very obvious that he just did not care at all about teaching us.
Lectures for this class were pointless. Didn't learn a single thing from them and had to get help from a TA outside of class, and even the TA wasn't much help. Was very unclear what the content of the exams were going to be, and the examples in class did virtually nothing to prepare us. Avoid this class if you can.
Lecture is pointless, but you're graded on participation so you have to go. Random surprise grades for lab. Class just sucks.
If you want him to ask you a question, he never tells you if your answer is correct, he only asks the question he wants to ask. This method of learning is of no use to me. Studying with him is a waste of time, and he makes you feel very unsure of yourself, which I really mind.
Mean and bad at teaching. Somehow manages to make you feel stupid and not teach you at the same time.
Does not do a good job at teaching.
He expects you to work hard. He is willing to help students if you bring good questions to him and reach out to schedule OH (I did so weekly). Tips: Watch every recorded lecture, textbook core notes PFD (read to supplement recorded lectures), do practice problems in exercise packet similar to hw to perform well on hw. TAs also help!
Took a class from him online and would never do it again. His lectures were just reading through problems that already had been posted with solutions. Any new material was just introduced in videos where you were not able to ask questions, and you were quizzed on them before they were even discussed in lecture. 0/10 would not recommend
Kreg has a mechanical engineering background and that is exactly how he teaches this class. Concepts are completely irrelevant to any Kinesiology student who wants to work in clinic. I always felt a step behind in lecture because he doesn't explain things clearly and expects you to keep up. Would not recommend.
Very helpful if you go in to him. Concepts can be tough to understand but if you want to learn them
Most frustrating class I've taken. He emphasizes learning concepts but doesn't teach whatsoever - only 1-2 does example problems per class. Podcasts have little useful information. Quizzes come completely out of left field and are under tight time constraints.
You really have to teach yourself what you're doing using the videos that he posts online. In lecture he works practice problems and makes them look way easier than they really are. He never really teaches concepts and just expects you to know what you are doing. Your midterm & final make up 50% of your grade with weekly quizzes at 20% and labs 30%
Although Gruben can be a bit bland during lecture, his enthusiasm for biomechanics and eagerness to help you if you ask completely makes up for it! Talking to people currently in the class, they changed the format of lectures, they focus more on practice problems to help with the quizzes and exams. Power through the practice problems, you'll be OK
The worst class I have ever taken! You basically have to teach yourself the material. He does not use a txtbook. He makes it look so easy in class, but he doesn't break concepts down well enough so you can do it yourself. Class was so boring. Beware, we had weekly quizzes, one mid-term and one final. Grading is VERY heavy on exams, quizzes only 15%
Excellent professor who is always willing to help. Class is moderately difficult, depending on how much you like math. It's basically all math, but you have lots and lots of practice problems in the course pack. Exams and quizzes are exactly like those questions.
